SteamOS 3.8.28 adds initial gamepad support for two AYANEO handhelds: the Android-based AYANEO Pocket S2 and the Windows-based AYANEO KONKR Fit. That makes both devices named targets for Valve’s compatibility work, but it does not mean either has a finished, stable SteamOS port that owners can safely install today.
Which AYANEO handhelds are named?
The update identifies exactly two models:
| Handheld | Ships with | Processor context | SteamOS status |
|---|---|---|---|
| AYANEO Pocket S2 | Android | Qualcomm Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 | Initial gamepad support; no stable build confirmed |
| AYANEO KONKR Fit | Windows | AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 or HX 470 configurations | Initial gamepad support; no stable build confirmed |
The Pocket S2 is an Android-first handheld built around a Snapdragon platform. The KONKR Fit is a recently launched Windows handheld from AYANEO’s KONKR sub-brand and uses AMD processors. Those different starting points matter: they indicate two distinct hardware and software integration paths rather than one universal AYANEO SteamOS image.

What “initial gamepad support” actually means
“Initial gamepad support” is an early compatibility milestone. It indicates that SteamOS development has begun recognizing or working with the handheld’s built-in controls, not that every part of the device is ready for daily use.

The wording does not confirm a polished installer, complete driver coverage, working sleep and resume, reliable power management, audio, wireless connectivity, display controls, or consistent performance. The available reporting specifically says that development remains early and that no stable update for either handheld was available at publication.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
In practical terms, the change is a signal that Valve is expanding SteamOS compatibility beyond its own hardware ecosystem. It is not a release announcement for a finished Pocket S2 or KONKR Fit edition.
Can you install SteamOS on the Pocket S2 or KONKR Fit now?
There is no confirmed, stable installation path in the available reports. Owners should not replace Android on the Pocket S2 or Windows on the KONKR Fit solely because the models appear in a SteamOS changelog.

Before attempting any operating-system swap, wait for all of the following:
- A device-specific SteamOS image or officially documented installation method.
- Confirmation that the image belongs to the stable channel rather than a development or beta build.
- Instructions for restoring the original operating system and recovering from a failed flash.
- Evidence that the controls, display, audio, networking, suspend/resume and power behavior work on the exact hardware configuration you own.
Without those details, an installation attempt can leave you with missing controls or a device that requires a recovery process not yet documented for consumers.

How this fits with SteamOS 3.8.25 beta reporting
A PC Gamer report dated August 10, 2026, on SteamOS 3.8.25 beta also named the Pocket S2 and KONKR Fit. That earlier beta mention and the later 3.8.28 change point in the same direction: both AYANEO models are being considered during ongoing compatibility work.
However, a device appearing in a beta report and then receiving an “initial gamepad support” entry still does not establish a stable release date. No stable-channel schedule, benchmark, or performance comparison was supplied for either handheld.

What the two devices have in common—and what they do not
Shared status
- Both are explicitly named in SteamOS compatibility reporting.
- Both have only initial gamepad support confirmed.
- Neither has a stable SteamOS build confirmed by the reports.
Different starting platforms
The Pocket S2 starts with Android and a Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 processor, while the KONKR Fit starts with Windows and an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 or HX 470. The operating-system and processor differences mean that support work, firmware behavior and driver requirements may not be interchangeable between the two models.
The current evidence supports identifying those platform distinctions, but not ranking one handheld’s SteamOS performance above the other. No comparable frame-rate tests, battery figures, prices, availability data or warranty terms were provided.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
What owners should do now
- Keep the factory operating system. Continue using Android on the Pocket S2 or Windows on the KONKR Fit until a stable image and recovery instructions are published.
- Track the SteamOS channel. Treat beta or development references as testing milestones, not consumer-ready releases.
- Check the exact model. The KONKR Fit is reported with more than one Ryzen AI configuration, so future support notes may distinguish hardware variants.
- Back up before experimenting. If you later test an image, create a full recovery path for the original system and preserve firmware-specific files.
- Verify the controls first. Gamepad recognition is only one part of handheld support; confirm suspend/resume, audio, wireless networking, screen behavior and power management before making SteamOS your main system.
Is SteamOS support stable yet?
No. The strongest confirmed description is still “initial gamepad support,” and the reporting states that a stable update was not available for the Pocket S2 or KONKR Fit at publication. There is also no published stable release date or benchmark evidence to show how either device performs under SteamOS.
For now, the update is best understood as an early compatibility signal. It gives AYANEO owners a reason to watch future SteamOS releases, but not a reason to erase their current operating system.
