There is no single champion tier list that applies to every League of Legends player. A useful ranking needs to specify its patch, role, ranked queue, region and skill band—and whether it measures solo-queue results, professional viability or ease of climbing. Riot’s latest update at the October 8, 2026 snapshot is Patch 26.20, posted October 6. The available evidence does not establish a reliable champion-by-champion ranking for that patch, so assigning champions to tiers here would be misleading.
What Patch 26.20 does—and does not—tell you
Riot describes Patch 26.20 as the patch for the year-defining competitive play. Its notes discuss balance goals for specific champions: Ambessa’s reliable late-game output, particularly in pro play; Ashe’s standing as a leading pro marksman and her excessive damage; and Kennen and Kindred being weaker or near viability. These are Riot’s reasons for balance changes, not placements in a ranked ladder tier list.
A buff or nerf indicates an intended adjustment. It does not, by itself, show how the champion performs after the patch. Nor does a pro-play concern automatically mean that champion is a strong pick for an average solo-queue player. Treat the official notes as context for a ranking, not a substitute for current, filtered performance data.
Why one list cannot rank every champion for every player
“Best” changes with the question being asked. A champion that is effective in organized professional play may demand coordination or execution that makes it a poor recommendation for a player looking to climb in solo queue. A champion’s results can also differ by role and skill band. A tier list without those labels hides the conditions behind its ranking.

- Ergonomic ambidextrous design: Tournament-ready gaming mouse developed with esports pros and gamers for maximum comfort, control and durability
- Role: Judge a champion in the role being played; do not assume strength transfers unchanged between roles.
- Queue: Keep Solo/Duo separate from Flex. They are different ranked queues, not interchangeable samples.
- Rank band and region: State the population represented. Results from one segment should not be generalized to all players.
- Purpose: Say whether the list estimates solo-queue performance, professional viability, or ease of climbing.
- Patch and observation window: Date the data and say what period it covers so readers can tell whether it reflects the current balance state.
How to read a champion ranking
Win rate alone is not a complete strength score. Read it alongside pick rate, ban rate and match count, with the role, queue, region, rank band, patch and observation window visible. A low-pick champion may have a small sample; popularity and bans can reflect perceived threat as well as results. Skill band, champion mastery and role distribution also affect what a statistic can tell you.
For example, a champion with a high win rate in a narrow sample is not automatically a better climbing choice for you than a frequently played champion with broader evidence. Check whether the sample actually matches your role and ranked population, and avoid treating a single aggregate percentage as a universal verdict.

Do not mistake an outdated or mismatched page for current-patch evidence
A LeagueOfGraphs page surfaced in the available material displays role and rank-related filters and useful fields such as patch, region, queue, match count, win rate, pick rate and ban rate. But its visible patch label is 16.19, while Riot’s current update index shows 26.20. Until that discrepancy is reconciled, the page cannot substantiate a Patch 26.20 ranking. Its filters illustrate what to look for; its displayed champion data should not be presented as current-patch evidence.
Choose a climbing pick you can actually play
A tier list is advice, not a command to drop a champion you enjoy. Riot’s champion-selection guidance recommends choosing a champion that fits your preferences and cautions against buying one solely because of current balance strength. For your own ranked decisions, use a list as a shortlist, then consider whether you understand the champion’s role and can play it consistently.

- Check official patch notes for recent changes and Riot’s stated goals, but wait for appropriately scoped performance evidence before treating a change as proof of a new tier.
- Use the resulting shortlist to choose a champion that suits your preferences and experience, rather than treating a broad ranking as a guarantee of wins.
Keep the ranked context separate from champion strength
Riot says matchmaking rating (MMR) is hidden and used by backend systems to place players in fair games. Visible rank is a more relatable, fluid representation of a player’s ladder position. Neither is a champion tier: a player’s rank describes their ladder standing, while a champion ranking describes observed performance within a defined data slice.
Riot’s 2026 ranked FAQ covers Solo/Duo and Flex as well as placements, apex ranks, matchmaking, decay and rewards. The 2026 season material also describes a seasonal rank reset followed by five provisional games. Ranked rules can change, so consult Riot’s current FAQ for the applicable season rather than assuming a past rule still applies.

Patch context matters beyond individual buffs and nerfs, too. Riot’s August 2026 notes discuss early support roaming, mages in bot lane and jungle itemization diversity—examples of changes that can affect how role-specific lists should be interpreted. Reassess rankings when patches change the relevant role or play pattern.
