LEGO 2K Drive is worth considering if you want an arcade racer built around open-world exploration and making your own vehicles. Reviews praise its driving and vehicle-building, but the experience depends on platform: Nintendo Life reported notable visual and performance problems on Switch, while the available PS5 critic aggregate was more mixed. Progression and in-game purchases are another potential drawback.
What kind of game is LEGO 2K Drive?
It is an arcade racing game with open-world exploration, not just a string of closed kart-racing tracks. Vehicles transform between street, off-road, and boat forms as you move across roads, rough terrain, and water. The official feature list includes Story mode, single races, Cup Series tournaments, minigames, drifting, boosting, and power-ups. 2K’s edition FAQ lists PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Steam, and Epic as platforms.
Nintendo Life’s Switch review describes four open-world maps with races, quests, collectibles, and other activities. Automatic vehicle transformation helps connect free-roaming with racing: you can move between different terrain types without treating each as a separate mode. Nintendo Life’s review also identifies vehicle building as a major part of the package.
What do reviews praise?
Driving and exploration
Nintendo Life praised the driving feel, open-world maps, and story content in its Switch review. The combination of racing and exploration gives the game a broader structure than a conventional track-only racer.

Master the art of drifting, boosting, jumping, and using power-ups to defeat opponents.
Building vehicles
The garage lets players modify unlocked vehicles or build new ones from scratch, according to Nintendo Life. That creative mode is a central attraction if you enjoy designing vehicles as much as driving them.
Variety of activities
The official feature list spans races, tournaments, minigames, and open-world play. This mix may suit players looking for several ways to spend time in the game rather than repeating races alone.

What are the main criticisms?
Switch image quality and performance
Nintendo Life’s May 26, 2023 European Switch review reported a blurry image, pop-in, occasional freezes, and frame-rate dips. Those are findings about the Switch version in that review; they should not be assumed to describe PS5, Xbox, or PC performance.
Progression and in-game purchases
Nintendo Life criticized the pace of Brickbux rewards and said the slow progression could create pressure to spend on microtransactions. That is a review concern about the game’s progression and monetization, not a claim that every player will encounter the same experience.

- RACE FOR THE SKY TROPHY - Story mode follows your journey from rookie racer to famous champion as you compete against a series of charismatic rivals. With each victory, you'll work your way up the ranks to take on the infamous Shadow Z.
- OPEN-WORLD EXPLORATION - The vast and vibrant world of Bricklandia is yours to explore as you see fit, full of colorful characters and kooky quests. Zoom past lush fields on Turbo Acres' pavement, go off-roading in the deserts of Big Butte County, cruise across Prospecto Valley's picturesque waterways, and more.
Sharing player-built vehicles
The Switch review also criticized limitations on online sharing of player creations. If sharing builds is a major reason you want a construction-focused racer, that reported limitation is worth weighing alongside the garage itself.
How do the review scores compare?
| Source and platform | Score or listing | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Life, Nintendo Switch, May 26, 2023 | 6.5/10; the page’s conclusion also displays “Not Bad 6/10” | The review praised driving, maps, story, and building, while raising Switch-specific technical and progression concerns. |
| Metacritic, PlayStation 5 critic listing, retrieved in 2026 | 73 Metascore from 56 critic reviews; “Mixed or Average” | A PS5 critic aggregate, not a score for every platform. Metascore and review count can change. |
The scores point to a game with clear strengths and trade-offs rather than universal acclaim. The Switch review is useful for that version’s specific compromises; the PS5 aggregate offers a separate platform snapshot and does not establish how other versions perform.

- LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 features an expanded line-up of iconic Marvel Super Heroes and Super Villains from different eras and realities, including Guardians of the Galaxy characters, Groot, Rocket Raccoon, Star-Lord, Gamora and Drax as well as Doctor Strange, Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin, Spider-Gwen, Spider-Man Noir, Spider-Man 2099, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Hawkeye, Iron Man, Ms. Marvel, Ant-Man, Captain Marvel, Kang the Conqueror and a whole lot more!
Which version should you buy?
- Choose a platform based on the version you will actually play. The documented performance critique here is specific to Switch, so do not transfer it to other platforms—or assume other platforms have identical performance.
- Consider whether building and exploring appeal to you. The vehicle creator and open-world activities are among the strongest reasons to try the game.
- Factor progression into your decision. If you dislike slow in-game currency rewards or optional purchases, Nintendo Life’s Brickbux criticism is relevant.
2K’s edition FAQ, updated July 2, 2026, says Standard Edition is available physically and digitally. It describes PS5 and Xbox Series versions as including the corresponding prior-generation version. The FAQ also lists an Awesome Edition in physical and digital formats, with an Aquadirt Racer pack, Year 1 Drive Pass bundle, and Awesome Bonus Pack. It says physical copies from select retailers included a 3-in-1 Aquadirt Racer while supplies lasted; availability and stock are not guaranteed, so check the exact listing and included contents before buying.
Digital availability needs particular care for Switch buyers. Nintendo Life reported that LEGO 2K Drive had been delisted from the Switch eShop as of May 2026 and could not be downloaded by new buyers unless they had already purchased it. Check Nintendo’s current store status before relying on a digital purchase; a physical copy is another route, but verify platform, region, contents, and stock with the seller.

The LEGO Group’s May 2023 launch announcement listed historical Standard Edition prices of $59.99 for Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and $69.99 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Those are launch prices, not current prices. The LEGO Group’s launch announcement also listed physical and digital formats.
Is LEGO 2K Drive worth it?
It is a stronger fit for players who want an open-world arcade racer with creative vehicle building and varied activities than for anyone seeking a straightforward, polished track racer. The Switch review’s technical complaints make platform choice especially important, and the reported progression concerns may matter if you want rewards to arrive quickly without engaging with in-game purchases. On other platforms, the cited PS5 aggregate is mixed-to-average; the evidence here does not establish equivalent technical performance across PS5, Xbox, and PC.
