LEGO Dimensions is a 2015 crossover game that paired console play with real LEGO figures and buildable objects. Its Toy Pad read supported pieces placed on it, letting characters from different franchises share a game world. The original Starter Pack supplied the game, Toy Pad, Gateway bricks, three minifigures, and the Batmobile. WB Games now lists the title among games no longer sold by authorized retailers; that does not establish whether used copies are available.
What is LEGO Dimensions?
Developed by TT Games and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (now Warner Bros. Games), LEGO Dimensions launched on September 27, 2015. Its story begins when a mysterious vortex pulls characters from DC Comics, The Lord of the Rings, and The LEGO Movie into a quest against Lord Vortech. The crossover premise also shaped play: characters from different worlds could meet and use one another’s vehicles and gadgets.

The central idea was to bring LEGO’s mix-and-match physical play into a console game. At launch, TT Games founder and creative director Jon Burton described the aim as letting players experience how children combine characters and universes while building with LEGO bricks. That is a statement of the game’s design intent, rather than an independent assessment of how well it worked.

The Toy Pad was the game’s reader for supported physical minifigures and objects. Players placed the relevant figures or tags on it to bring their associated characters or items into the game. The Gateway, a brick-built structure, sat on the Toy Pad; its bricks were included in the Starter Pack, and the game provided instructions for assembling it.

This made the physical components part of the play loop, not just collectibles. A Starter Pack alone provided the basic hardware and characters, while expansion packs added other figures, objects, and—in some cases—story missions.
What came in the Starter Pack?
The official Starter Pack contents were:
- The LEGO Dimensions videogame
- A LEGO Toy Pad
- Bricks to build the LEGO Gateway
- Batman, Gandalf, and Wyldstyle minifigures
- The Batmobile buildable vehicle
If considering a secondhand pack, treat the official contents as a checklist, not proof that a particular listing is complete. Check that the game, Toy Pad, Gateway bricks, figures or their required tags, and vehicle are included, and confirm that the pack matches the console you intend to use.
What did the expansion packs include?
The official DC game page describes three expansion categories. Their contents differed, so the pack type matters if you want a new mission rather than additional characters or buildable items.

Examples named in LEGO’s launch announcement included the Back to the Future Level Pack and packs themed around Ninjago, DC, The Lord of the Rings, The LEGO Movie, and The Wizard of Oz.

Which consoles can play LEGO Dimensions?
The original launch platforms were Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and Wii U. Microsoft’s current Xbox listing shows Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S in its “Play with” section and lists two-player local co-op/multiplayer. That current storefront information is separate from the original release-platform list. The official material cited here does not establish a PC or Nintendo Switch release.

WB Games’ support page currently lists LEGO Dimensions among games “no longer sold by authorized retailers.” This establishes the authorized-retail status described by WB Games, not the condition of the entire secondhand market. Used listings may exist, but the reviewed official sources do not establish current stock, prices, scarcity, or the completeness and working condition of any offer. They also do not establish why authorized retail sales ended.
