There is no single family winner. Choose LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga when your household wants all nine Skywalker Saga films, a very large cast of characters and vehicles, and planet-based exploration. Choose LEGO Harry Potter Collection when the players already love Harry Potter and would rather cast spells, brew potions, solve puzzles, attend lessons, and duel through the seven school years.
Both are ESRB E10+ LEGO adventures with local two-player support on the specific platforms documented here. The practical decision comes down to franchise attachment, the kinds of activities your children enjoy, each game’s content descriptors, and the exact platform and edition you plan to buy.

What comes in LEGO Harry Potter Collection
Two complete school-year campaigns
The Collection joins LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1–4 and LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5–7. Together they follow the seven school years rather than a single film or a shortened selection. That structure suits a family that wants a continuous Harry, Ron, and Hermione journey through the books’ major school-era events.

On the PS5 page, PlayStation describes the package as remastered with enhanced graphics. The same listing identifies one-to-two-player support and names the core activities: spell-casting, potion-making, puzzle-solving, lessons, and dueling. Those are official product descriptions, so they identify the intended activity mix without proving how difficult or lengthy any individual section will feel to your child.
Remaster and packaged-edition details
Warner Bros. Games’ Japanese announcement says the remastered compilation contains both games and the previously released Character Pack and Spell Pack DLC. It announced the package for PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in that regional release, and said physical PS5 and Switch versions were available for preorder in Japan. A Japanese physical announcement does not establish stock, language options, or pricing in another country; verify the local storefront or retailer listing.
Because older and newer releases can use similar names, read the product description carefully. Confirm that the listing says Collection, identifies the platform you own, and states whether the Character Pack and Spell Pack are included rather than assuming every disc or download has identical contents.

All nine Skywalker Saga films
Nintendo’s Switch listing says the game retells all nine Skywalker Saga films and allows the player to choose which trilogy to begin with. That gives a family freedom to start with the films it knows best instead of following a mandatory episode order. Nintendo lists April 5, 2022 as the Switch release date.
A wide roster and explorable planets
The LEGO product page reports more than 300 playable characters, travel to 23 planets, and more than 100 vehicles. It also describes quests, exploration, character upgrades, and combat built around combos, blasters, lightsabers, and the Force. These are publisher-reported game-content counts and feature descriptions, not independent measurements of map size, completion time, or replay value.
For a child who wants to move between locations, try different heroes, and alternate between ground and vehicle sections, this is the more exploration-oriented design on the evidence available. A child who prefers a tightly familiar school setting may find Harry Potter’s activity list more appealing even though Star Wars offers more named content.

Editions and add-ons
The US PlayStation store page lists Standard, Deluxe, and Galactic editions, along with character packs as add-ons. Edition names can change what is bundled, while storefront promotions and prices change over time. Compare the current contents in your intended region instead of relying on an old sale price or assuming that a character pack is part of the base game.
Content screening: what the E10+ labels actually say
Harry Potter Collection
The ESRB rates the Collection E10+ for Cartoon Violence and Crude Humor. Its summary describes magical blasts and battles involving ghosts, spiders, trolls, giant snakes, and wizards. The LEGO presentation makes these encounters stylized, but the descriptor still gives parents concrete subjects to consider: a child who is uneasy around spiders or monster confrontations may react differently from a child who is comfortable with fantasy combat.
Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
The ESRB rating is also E10+, but the descriptors are Cartoon Violence and Comic Mischief, and the listing notes In-Game Purchases. The rating summary mentions punches, blasters, lightsabers, and staffs; defeated characters break into LEGO pieces. If your household avoids games with firearms, lightsaber fighting, or storefront purchase prompts, inspect the console’s purchase controls and the edition’s add-on options before handing over the controller.
How to use the labels
E10+ is a broad age category, not a promise that every ten-year-old will enjoy or tolerate every scene. Read the descriptor and summary alongside your child’s sensitivities. The relevant contrast is not “safe versus unsafe”: both contain cartoon battles, while Harry Potter adds Crude Humor and Star Wars adds Comic Mischief plus the In-Game Purchases notice.
Gameplay differences that matter to families
Magic systems and school activities
Harry Potter’s official description centers the school-world routine. Progress involves selecting or using spells, brewing potions, tackling environmental puzzles, attending lessons, and dueling. That combination can suit siblings who enjoy recognizable characters and task types that return to a shared setting. The source material does not establish a universal difficulty level, so do not assume that a potion or puzzle section will be easier simply because the game is aimed at families.
Exploration, vehicles, and combat variety
Star Wars emphasizes movement across planets and a large choice of characters and vehicles. The LEGO page specifically calls out quests, upgrades, and multiple combat styles. A family can therefore choose a favorite hero or vehicle and approach the saga through exploration as well as film missions. The official descriptions do not prove that every character has a distinct campaign role or that every planet has the same amount of content; treat the counts as the publisher’s inventory of available game elements.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)

Story scope versus setting familiarity
The two Harry Potter games cover one seven-year storyline, while Star Wars covers nine films and lets players choose a starting trilogy. More films do not automatically mean a better family experience. A household that knows Hogwarts may spend less time explaining characters and plot; a household with several Star Wars fans may value the ability to jump among trilogies and vehicles. Use shared fandom as the tiebreaker rather than counting films or characters alone.
Can two people play together?
Yes, local two-player support is documented for both, but the evidence is platform-specific. PlayStation lists one to two players for the PS5 Harry Potter Collection, and Nintendo lists one to two players on a single Switch system for Star Wars. That means the cited versions support two people in the same room; it does not establish online multiplayer, cross-platform play, or identical controller requirements on every system.
Before purchase, open the exact store page for your console and check the player-count field, supported controllers, and whether a second player can join the entire campaign or only selected modes. If children will share one Switch, also confirm whether the listing’s “one system” wording matches the controllers you own. Do not infer the PS5 player count from a different Harry Potter release, or the Switch count from a different Star Wars platform.
Platform and edition checklist before buying
- Identify the hardware. Write down the console or PC platform first. Harry Potter’s remastered package has platform and release details that vary by region, while Star Wars has separate storefront pages and editions.
- Open the local listing. Use your country’s PlayStation, Nintendo, Xbox, or PC store. A US or Japanese page may not show your language, physical availability, tax, or current price.
- Verify the title wording. For Harry Potter, distinguish the Collection from individual Years 1–4 or Years 5–7 releases. For Star Wars, distinguish Standard, Deluxe, and Galactic editions.
- Read the included-content box. Check whether Harry Potter’s Character Pack and Spell Pack are bundled and which Star Wars character packs come with the edition you selected.
- Check local multiplayer fields. Confirm the one-to-two-player statement for your target platform and note any controller or account requirements.
- Review purchase settings. Star Wars carries an ESRB In-Game Purchases notice. Set console purchase restrictions if children use the account, and explain that optional add-ons are separate from the base game unless the edition says otherwise.
- Compare the final checkout total. Prices and promotions are volatile. Compare the current regional price and included content, not a captured sale or a price from another country.
Budget, editions, and value questions
Neither title has a stable, universal price that can be quoted for every family. Digital discounts, physical stock, taxes, currency, and platform storefronts change. The useful comparison is the complete package at checkout: base game, included character or spell packs, and any separate add-ons. A lower headline price is not automatically better if it omits content your children specifically want.
For Harry Potter, look for wording that confirms both Years 1–4 and Years 5–7. A listing for only one of those games is not the Collection. If a retailer mentions the remaster, check the platform and region because Warner Bros.’ packaged announcement concerned a Japanese release and does not prove that the same physical edition is sold everywhere.
For Star Wars, compare Standard, Deluxe, and Galactic editions line by line. The US PlayStation page lists those editions and character packs, but the bundle contents and current prices can change. If your child mainly wants the story, the base edition may be sufficient; if specific characters matter, verify that their packs are included rather than relying on the edition name alone. Use account-level purchase restrictions when children can access the storefront.

When siblings want different franchises
A split household does not need an abstract winner. Have each player choose a preferred universe, then compare the activities they actually expect to use. Ask whether they would rather spend a session casting spells and solving Hogwarts puzzles or traveling between planets, piloting vehicles, and changing characters. Next, read the relevant ESRB descriptor aloud and discuss spiders, monsters, cartoon combat, humor, and purchase prompts.

If one child is much younger or more sensitive, let that concern outweigh a larger roster or a preferred film series. If both are comfortable with the content, prioritize the platform already connected to the television and the edition whose included content is easiest to verify. This approach also avoids promising that either game is universally easier, longer, or more replayable; the official pages do not establish those outcomes.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which game should your family choose?
Choose Harry Potter when these statements fit
- The children already ask for Hogwarts, spells, potions, and the Harry Potter characters.
- You want one package covering the seven school years through the two linked games.
- Puzzle-solving, lessons, and dueling sound more attractive than driving or flying vehicles.
- Crude Humor is less concerning for your household than Star Wars’ In-Game Purchases notice, or you prefer the Harry Potter content profile after reading the ESRB summary.
- Your target platform is a supported remastered release and the local listing clearly includes the packs you want.
Choose Star Wars when these statements fit
- The family prefers Star Wars and wants all nine Skywalker Saga films in one game.
- Children want to select from a very large roster, visit planets, complete quests, and use vehicles.
- Starting with any trilogy is useful because different family members favor different eras.
- You are comfortable with the ESRB descriptors for cartoon combat, comic mischief, and the presence of optional in-game purchases.
- You have checked which edition contains the desired character packs and have configured purchase controls.
When the family is split
Ask each player to rank three factors: franchise attachment, preferred activities, and content concerns. Give franchise attachment the greatest weight because neither official description supplies an objective quality winner. If the rankings tie, use the platform you already own and the edition whose included content is clearest at the current local price. This avoids treating publisher-reported counts as a guarantee of better value for every child.
What the available evidence cannot answer
The official listings and ratings do not establish which game is easier for a particular child, has better replay value, performs best on every platform, takes longer to finish, or delivers a universally better family experience. No comparable independent family play-test is documented here. Those questions depend on the child’s reading ability, familiarity with each universe, tolerance for combat and humor, and the exact hardware version.
Accordingly, treat “better” as a fit decision, not a review score. The defensible conclusions are about story coverage, advertised activities, ratings, player counts on named listings, and edition information. For technical performance, accessibility options, save behavior, and current pricing, consult the live platform page for the version you are considering.
