The LEGO Mario Kart Spiny Shell pictured in a May 2025 leak became LEGO Super Mario set 40787, a 234-piece Insiders Reward—not a gift-with-purchase. Its reported release date was May 15, 2025, and redemption cost 2,500 Insiders points. Stock reports from then and later do not establish whether it is available now.
What leaked about the Spiny Shell set?
On May 4, 2025, Insider Gaming reported that X account Brick Built Blogs (@BlogsBrick) had posted an image of an upcoming LEGO Mario Kart Spiny Shell promotional set. The report described it as a 234-piece item expected sometime in May, attributing that timing to the leaker.

That early report did not settle how the set would be distributed. Later reporting identified it as LEGO Super Mario set 40787, officially named “Mario Kart™ – Spiny Shell,” and clarified that it was a points reward.

Is LEGO 40787 available now?
Availability cannot be confirmed from the historical reports. On May 1, 2026, Brick Fanatics reported that the reward had returned to stock at that time, again for 2,500 points. That is a dated stock update, not proof of inventory today or in every country.
Brick Fanatics characterized secondary-market prices as high but did not publish a specific figure. The available reporting therefore does not support a stable current resale price. For a listing, search by the exact set number, 40787, and check the seller, condition, shipping, and current price rather than assuming LEGO still has the reward.
