The LEGO PlayStation set (72306) is a 1,911-piece, age-18+ display model of the original PlayStation and its first controller. The console measures over 6 cm high, 26 cm wide and 19 cm deep. It opens to reveal small Gran Turismo and Ape Escape scenes, and includes working model Open and Power buttons plus a controller that plugs into the console.
How many pieces are in LEGO PlayStation set 72306?
The set has 1,911 pieces and is intended for builders aged 18 and up. LEGO describes the finished console as near 1:1 scale. These are LEGO’s product specifications, not independent measurements. LEGO’s September 3, 2026 announcement lists the piece count and age rating.
How big is the LEGO PlayStation set?
LEGO gives the console’s built dimensions as over 6 cm high, 26 cm wide and 19 cm deep (over 2.5 × 10.5 × 7.5 inches). These are dimensions of the model, not its packaging. For a shelf, allow at least a 26 × 19 cm footprint for the console itself; plan additional space if you want to show the removable scenes beside it.
Does the LEGO PS1 set open, and what features are included?
Yes. The console opens to reveal two small buildable scenes. The Open and Power buttons operate as model features, and the brick-built first-generation controller plugs into the console. “Functional” here refers to the model’s physical details: it is a display build, not an electronic PlayStation that plays games. Can the Gran Turismo and Ape Escape dioramas be displayed separately?
Yes. The scenes can be kept inside the console or removed and displayed alongside it, according to LEGO. One depicts a miniature Gran Turismo track with tiny cars; the other references Ape Escape and includes the game’s red or blue monkey helmet. Both are display details inspired by the games, rather than playable game components.
What do the hidden scenes and opening mechanism add to the design?
LEGO Design Director Frédéric André said the lid was one of the design team’s biggest challenges; set designer Isaac tried multiple mechanisms before they settled on a Technic suspension element. André also said the console’s shape translated well into LEGO bricks and that the goal was immediate recognition. These are attributed comments from LEGO’s design story, not independent assessments. When did LEGO PlayStation 72306 go on sale, and what was its announced price?
LEGO announced Insiders early access for October 1, 2026, followed by general purchase from October 4 through LEGO.com, LEGO Stores and select retailers. The announced regional recommended retail prices were £139.99, €159.99 and $179.99. On October 4, 2026, the US LEGO product listing showed $179.99 and “Coming soon on October 4, 2026”; online listing and stock status can change.
