The Lenovo Legion Y700 Gen 5 is no longer just a leak. Lenovo now sells the device as the Legion Y700 5th Gen in China and the Legion Tab (8.8″, 5) in global markets. The core rumor was broadly accurate: the compact Android gaming tablet has Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 silicon, an 8.8-inch 3040×1904 IPS LCD with up to 165Hz refresh rate, and a 9,000mAh typical battery.

The important catch is that the Chinese Y700 and global Legion Tab are not automatically identical buying propositions. Firmware, Google services, warranty, configurations, chargers, accessories and regional support can differ.

From November 2025 leak to launched product

The original report, published on November 3, 2025, described a possible fifth-generation Lenovo Legion Y700 based primarily on information attributed to Digital Chat Station. At the time, the expected specifications included a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, an 8.8-inch 3K 165Hz LCD, enlarged vapor-chamber cooling and a battery in the 9,000mAh range. The report also suggested a China-first release and left global availability uncertain.

That report should now be read as historical context, not as the device’s current status. Lenovo’s official documentation confirms the main hardware claims, while China listings identify the launched product as the Legion Y700 5th Gen. Lenovo uses the name Legion Tab (8.8″, 5) for the global product.

Rumor versus confirmed specification

Feature Original leak Confirmed or current information
Processor Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Confirmed in Lenovo global PSREF material and China listings
Display 8.8-inch 3K LCD at 165Hz 8.8-inch 3040×1904 IPS LCD, up to 165Hz
Battery Approximately 9,000mAh 9,000mAh typical capacity
Cooling Large vapor-chamber cooling system Reported in the leak; the precise final cooling design should not be treated as fully confirmed without a regional Lenovo datasheet specifying it
Rear camera Not specified in the original report Later reporting attributed a 50MP camera to the leak, but camera specifications should be checked against the relevant regional product page
Software Not specified China listings show Android 16; global software details can vary by region
Market Expected China-first launch; global availability uncertain China Y700 5th Gen and global Legion Tab (8.8″, 5) products are documented

Lenovo’s global PSREF confirms the global product identity, processor platform, display and battery. Lenovo China’s official listing identifies the Y700 5th Gen and shows Android 16, dual USB-C ports and a 9,000mAh typical battery.

Y700 5th Gen versus global Legion Tab Gen 5

“Y700 Gen 5,” “Legion Tab Gen 5” and “Legion Tab 5” may appear interchangeably in retailer listings, but the regional distinction matters:

  • Lenovo Legion Y700 5th Gen: the China-market name.
  • Lenovo Legion Tab (8.8″, 5): the global-market name used in Lenovo’s English PSREF documents.

The two products share the same core platform, but a China-market import may use different firmware, languages, Google-service availability, wireless support, charger hardware, accessories and warranty terms. A seller’s claim that a tablet has a “global ROM” does not prove that it carries official Lenovo global firmware or global warranty coverage.

Before buying an import, ask for the exact model number and confirm whether Google Play Services, the required languages, official OTA updates, the charger, and warranty support are included. Also establish whether the warranty is provided by Lenovo in your country or only by the seller.

A compact 8.8-inch gaming tablet

The Legion Tab’s defining feature is not simply its processor. It combines flagship-class Android hardware with a body substantially smaller than most 11- or 12-inch tablets.

The global specification lists an 8.8-inch IPS LCD with a 3040×1904 resolution, 16:10 aspect ratio, 408 pixels per inch and up to 165Hz refresh rate. Lenovo lists 600-nit typical brightness and an 800-nit high-brightness mode in the referenced specification.

  • POWER FOR ALL YOU DO: Galaxy Tab A11+ gives your family the optimal performance they need for all their day-to-day activities. Power through tasks, relax with a movie or jump into a game — the upgraded chipset⁴ keeps everything responsive
  • CHARGES UP FAST. LASTS FOR HOURS: Galaxy Tab A11+ keeps your family going with a long-lasting battery that’s perfect for browsing, streaming and play. When you finally need a boost, fast charging gets you back to 100% quickly.⁵
  • MEMORY AND STORAGE THAT KEEP UP: With up to 8GB of memory and 256GB⁶ of storage, Galaxy Tab A11+ gives your family the space and speed to multitask seamlessly and handle large files.
  • BIG SCREEN. FAMILY-SIZED FUN: A bright, engaging 11" screen¹ with a refresh rate up to 90Hz delivers natural, fluid motion, making it easy for every family member to stream, play and do what they love.
  • SURROUND YOURSELF WITH RICH AUDIO SOUND: Whether you're watching a movie or listening to your favorite playlist, immerse yourself in a cinema-like audio experience with quad speakers powered by Dolby Atmos on Galaxy Tab A11+

That size sits between a large phone and a conventional productivity tablet. It gives touch-based games more usable space than a phone while remaining easier to hold on a sofa, in bed or during travel than a larger tablet. It is also a practical size for cloud gaming, remote play, emulation and controller-based Android games.

The trade-off is productivity. An 8.8-inch screen is less comfortable for split-screen work, desktop-style multitasking, document editing and drawing than a larger tablet. The device is a conventional Android tablet, not a Steam Deck-style handheld with integrated controls. For long sessions, many players will want a Bluetooth or USB-C controller, grip or stand.

165Hz LCD, not OLED

The panel uses IPS LCD technology rather than OLED. That means the tablet does not offer OLED’s typically deeper blacks and higher contrast, and claims about HDR quality, response time and color accuracy should not be made without testing the specific panel.

LCD does have advantages. There is no OLED burn-in concern, and the combination of high pixel density and up to 165Hz should suit fast games and scrolling. However, “up to 165Hz” does not mean every game renders at 165 frames per second. Game engine limits, device settings and title-specific optimization can cap output well below that figure.

There is also no supplied test evidence to conclude that this panel is flicker-free or especially suitable for users sensitive to PWM. Buyers should not assume those characteristics from the LCD label alone.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 performance

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 places the tablet in Qualcomm’s current flagship Android performance class. It is a substantial generational step beyond the Snapdragon 8 Elite used in the preceding Y700 generation. Lenovo’s documentation identifies the global platform as Qualcomm 8850P, with an octa-core design and a peak prime-core frequency of up to 4.6GHz in the cited specification.

The original coverage referenced Qualcomm’s approximate 20% CPU uplift claim over Snapdragon 8 Elite. That is a platform-level claim, not a promise that every game will run 20% faster. Actual results depend on the game, graphics settings, firmware, power mode, ambient temperature and the tablet’s sustained thermal limits.

A larger cooling system can help the chip maintain performance for longer, but it cannot guarantee maximum frame rates in every title. Peak benchmark results should therefore be separated from sustained gaming performance. Emulation performance will also depend on emulator maturity, game compatibility, graphics drivers and controller mapping.

9,000mAh typical battery

The 9,000mAh figure is one of the clearest improvements over the previous generation. The earlier Y700 4th Gen reference capacity was 7,600mAh, while Lenovo lists the new Y700/Legion Tab at 9,000mAh typical.

“Typical” matters: it is not a guarantee of usable capacity or runtime. Battery life will vary with brightness, refresh rate, game load, wireless activity, performance mode and battery-health settings. Running demanding games at high brightness and high refresh rate can consume considerably more power than watching video or reading.

The supplied Lenovo material does not establish one universal charging speed or real-world charging time for every region, so those details should be checked on the exact local datasheet rather than inferred from an imported listing.

China configurations and pricing

Lenovo China documents configurations including:

  • 12GB RAM with 512GB storage
  • 16GB RAM with 512GB storage
  • 24GB RAM with 1TB storage

Lenovo China listing prices observed in July 2026 included ¥4,699 for a listed 12GB/512GB model, ¥5,499 for a 16GB/512GB FIFA World Cup limited edition and ¥6,399 for a 24GB/1TB listing. These are China official-store price signals, not universal launch prices or US MSRP. Shipping, tax, payment fees, return costs and seller margins can materially change the delivered price.

There is no reliable US price in the supplied source set. Lenovo has surfaced a global product page for the Lenovo Legion Tab Gen 5, but buyers should verify local availability, configuration and price directly before ordering.

What to check before importing a China Y700

  1. Firmware: Confirm whether the tablet runs official China software, official global firmware or a seller-modified ROM.
  2. Google services: Check whether Google Play Services and the Play Store are officially supported and whether they continue working after OTA updates.
  3. Language support: Verify that the interface and required apps support your language.
  4. Updates: Ask which Lenovo update channel the device uses. Do not assume a China unit receives the same updates as the global Legion Tab.
  5. Warranty: Confirm whether repairs are covered by Lenovo in your country or only by the seller.
  6. Charger and plug: Check the included adapter, charging standard and regional plug.
  7. Wireless support: The documented global product is Wi-Fi-oriented; do not assume cellular or 5G connectivity.
  8. Storage and accessories: Confirm the exact RAM/storage tier and whether a case, charger, stylus or controller is included.

Flashing another ROM can introduce its own risks, including failed OTA updates, lost DRM or Widevine functionality, banking-app problems, camera issues or a voided warranty. The available evidence does not establish that China-market units can be cleanly converted to official global firmware, so treat such claims cautiously.

Who should buy it?

Buy it if you want:

  • Flagship Android gaming performance in a genuinely compact tablet.
  • A screen larger than a phone but easier to hold than an 11-inch tablet.
  • A high-density 165Hz LCD rather than an OLED panel.
  • A large battery in a relatively portable gaming device.
  • A tablet for touch gaming, cloud gaming, emulation or remote play with an external controller.

Consider alternatives if you need:

  • OLED contrast and HDR presentation.
  • A keyboard-first productivity or split-screen work device.
  • Cellular connectivity.
  • Built-in controls like a dedicated gaming handheld.
  • A clearly documented long-term software-support policy.
  • Official local warranty where the global Legion Tab is not sold.

Owners of earlier Y700 generations have the strongest upgrade case if they value sustained performance and battery capacity. The move from 7,600mAh to 9,000mAh is meaningful on paper, and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 gives the new model a much higher performance ceiling. Owners who are satisfied with current game performance may find the LCD and compact form factor more important than the generational processor gains.

Verdict

The original Lenovo Legion Y700 Gen 5 leak was broadly right, but the correct current story is no longer “Lenovo may be preparing a compact gaming tablet.” The product exists: China gets the Legion Y700 5th Gen, while global markets get the Lenovo Legion Tab (8.8″, 5).

Its strongest case is the rare combination of Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 performance, a 165Hz 8.8-inch display and a 9,000mAh typical battery in a compact body. Its biggest complications are regional: China imports can differ in software, warranty, accessories and support, while the global model’s local pricing and configurations vary by market. For most buyers, the official global Legion Tab is the safer choice where available; an imported Y700 is worthwhile only when the seller can document the firmware, warranty and exact configuration.
