The Snapdragon 8 Elite placed the Y700 in the flagship Android performance tier when it launched. Compared with the preceding Y700 generation’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, it offers a newer platform for demanding Android games, emulation, multitasking and graphics-heavy workloads.
#1 Best Overall
- COMPACT SIZE, COMPACT FUN – The Lenovo Tab One is compact, efficient, and provides non-stop entertainment everywhere you go. It’s lightweight and has a long-lasting battery life so the fun never stops.
- SIMPLICITY IN HAND - Add a touch of style with a modern design that’s tailor-made to fit in your hand. It weighs less than a pound and has an 8.7” display that’s easy to tuck in a purse or backpack.
- NON-STOPPABLE FUN – Freedom never felt so sweet with all-day battery life and up to 12.5 hours of unplugged YouTube streaming. It’s designed to charge 15W faster than previous models so you can spend less time tethered to a power cable.
- PORTABLE MEDIA CENTER - Enjoy vibrant visuals, immersive sound, and endless entertainment anywhere you go. The HD display has 480 nits of brightness for realistic graphics and dual Dolby Atmos speakers that provide impressive sound depth.
- ELEVATED EFFICIENCY - Experience the MediaTek Helio G85 processor and 60Hz refresh rate that ensure fluid browsing, responsive gaming, and lag-free streaming.
That does not mean every game will run at the tablet’s maximum refresh rate. Frame-rate caps, game optimization, graphics settings, performance modes and thermal limits all affect actual results. A review of the 2025 model reported that performance could begin to lag after roughly six minutes under sustained testing. That is a reviewer-specific observation, not a guarantee that every unit will behave identically, but it is an important reminder that peak chipset performance is not the same as unlimited sustained performance. Gizmochina’s review provides that testing context.
Compact 8.8-inch gaming design
The Y700’s main selling point is its size. An 8.8-inch tablet provides more screen space than a phone while remaining easier to hold during extended gaming sessions than a 12- or 13-inch tablet. The 165Hz display is particularly suited to supported competitive games and fast system interaction.
The trade-off is reduced workspace. The compact panel is less comfortable for split-screen productivity, document editing and desktop-style multitasking than a larger tablet. A high refresh rate can also increase power consumption, especially when combined with high brightness and demanding games.
Battery and hardware changes from the previous Y700
The Gen 4 increases the reported battery capacity to 7,600mAh, compared with approximately 6,550mAh in the preceding Y700 generation. It also moves to Snapdragon 8 Elite hardware and offers up to 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage.
The larger battery is a meaningful hardware upgrade, but capacity is not the same as runtime. Actual endurance depends on brightness, refresh rate, game load, wireless radios and the selected performance mode. RAM and storage are also generally fixed at purchase, so buyers with large game libraries or emulation collections should consider the 512GB configuration where available.

Price: China launch versus imported cost
The Chinese starting price was CNY 3,299. Contemporary coverage put that at roughly $457 using the exchange rate available at the time, but a direct currency conversion is not a reliable U.S. retail price. Notebookcheck reported the China launch price and date.
Import listings were later reported from around $599. Shipping, taxes, retailer margins, exchange-rate changes, warranty limitations and the selected configuration can all raise the final cost. The China launch price should therefore be treated as a local-market price, not a guaranteed landed price for buyers elsewhere. Notebookcheck’s import coverage illustrates the difference.
Global availability and the Legion Tab name
The Y700 launched first in China. It was widely expected to appear in international markets under the Legion Tab Gen 4 name, but an expected international name is not the same as a confirmed global launch or an official regional specification sheet.
Import listings should not be treated as proof of worldwide availability. China-market tablets can differ in firmware, preinstalled applications, language options, Google Play support, update arrangements, charger standards, cellular compatibility and warranty coverage. Lenovo’s U.S. Legion Tab series page is the appropriate place to check official regional listings.
What to check before importing
- ROM and software: Confirm whether the tablet has official China firmware or a seller-installed “global ROM.” A modified ROM may affect updates, notifications, banking apps or DRM.
- Google Play: Verify that Google Play and the services required by your games and streaming apps work correctly.
- Warranty: Check where repairs must be handled and whether the seller provides a genuine invoice and a usable return policy.
- Configuration: Confirm the exact RAM and storage capacity rather than relying on a generic product title.
- Charger: Check the plug, charging standard and whether the advertised charger is included.
- Connectivity: Do not assume the tablet supports cellular networks or the bands used in your country.
- Language and updates: Confirm available system languages and whether over-the-air updates remain functional.
How it compares with Lenovo’s current Gen 5
As of August 18, 2026, Lenovo’s current U.S.-listed compact flagship gaming tablet is the Legion Tab Gen 5, not the 2025 Y700 Gen 4. Lenovo lists the Gen 5 at $699.99 on sale, with an estimated value of $849.99. It uses the newer Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 platform. Lenovo’s U.S. shopping page contains the current price listing, while the Gen 5 PSREF details its newer platform and configurations.

The Gen 5 is a different generation and should not be used as evidence for the Y700 Gen 4’s price, firmware or specifications. It is, however, the more straightforward option for U.S. buyers who prioritize official availability and local support.

Who should consider the Legion Y700 Gen 4?
The Gen 4 is a strong fit for Android gamers who specifically want flagship performance in a compact 8.8-inch format. It also makes sense for technically comfortable import buyers, high-end mobile gamers and users who value Android’s flexibility for sideloading and emulation.
It is a weaker choice for buyers who need guaranteed U.S. warranty service, a simple out-of-box setup, a large productivity screen or an OLED display. It also cannot be assumed to deliver console- or PC-class gaming without platform compatibility limits, streaming or other workarounds.

Larger Android tablets: Better for productivity and media, but less convenient for handheld gaming.
iPad mini or iPad Pro: Attractive for Apple’s software and accessory ecosystem, but they use a different operating system and should not be treated as direct equivalents without matching tests.
Verdict
The 2025 Lenovo Legion Y700 Gen 4 is an unusually focused gaming tablet: Snapdragon 8 Elite performance, a fast 8.8-inch display and a larger battery in a compact design. Its main complications are not the headline specifications but sustained thermals, China-market software, import costs and uncertain official availability outside China.
Import it only if compact flagship Android gaming is worth accepting those risks. For a U.S. buyer who wants official support and current-generation hardware, Lenovo’s Legion Tab Gen 5 is the more practical choice. Buyers who prioritize price and software certainty may also prefer the older official Gen 3.
