Yes. Lenovo’s Legion Go, Powered by SteamOS (8.8”, Gen 2) is the company’s second handheld announced to ship with SteamOS, following the Legion Go S Powered by SteamOS. It is not simply a replacement for the Go S: the Legion Go 2 is a larger, heavier, higher-end handheld with an 8.8-inch OLED display, detachable controllers and support for up to an AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor.
What “second SteamOS handheld” means
The claim is accurate when it refers to Lenovo’s own product line. The Legion Go S was Lenovo’s first handheld designed to ship with SteamOS. The Legion Go 2 is the second.

That distinction matters. This is not the second SteamOS handheld ever made, nor does the announcement mean that every Windows Legion Go 2 automatically becomes an identical, factory-supported SteamOS device. Lenovo is selling the Go 2 as a SteamOS configuration, while also offering Windows versions of the Gen 2 platform.
Lenovo’s SteamOS preview documentation added Legion Go 2 controller support, controller and system firmware-update support, RGB controller settings and fixes for newer AMD APUs. That is stronger evidence than an enthusiast simply installing Linux, but it should not be confused with a guarantee that every Windows model has the same factory image, recovery tools or support coverage.

Legion Go 2 SteamOS versus Legion Go S SteamOS
| Feature | Legion Go S SteamOS | Legion Go 2 SteamOS |
|---|---|---|
| Positioning | Smaller, simpler SteamOS handheld | Higher-end, flagship-style handheld |
| Display | 8-inch class, configuration-dependent | 8.8-inch 1920×1200 OLED, up to 144Hz |
| Controls | Integrated controls | Detachable controllers |
| FPS mode | No equivalent detachable-controller design | Right controller supports FPS mode |
| Processor class | Ryzen Z2 Go or other regional configurations | Up to Ryzen Z2 Extreme |
| Battery | Smaller than the Go 2 platform | 74Wh |
| Portability | More compact | Approximately 920g with controllers attached |
The Go 2 is the more ambitious device, but not automatically the better value. Choose the Go S if lower cost, integrated controls and easier handling matter more than display quality, performance headroom or detachable controllers.
What the Legion Go 2 hardware offers
According to Lenovo’s Gen 2 specifications, the platform includes:
- AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme in the highest configuration, with 8 cores, 16 threads and up to 5.0GHz maximum frequency
- Up to 32GB of soldered LPDDR5X memory
- 512GB, 1TB or 2TB PCIe SSD configurations, depending on SKU
- 8.8-inch 1920×1200 OLED touchscreen with a 144Hz refresh rate
- Up to 1100 nits HDR peak brightness, 100% DCI-P3 coverage and DisplayHDR True Black 1000 certification
- 74Wh battery
- Two USB4 40Gbps USB-C ports, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3 and a microSD card reader
- Detachable controllers and a dedicated right-controller FPS mode
These figures describe capability, not guaranteed game performance. Actual frame rates depend on power limits, thermals, resolution, upscaling, the game engine and SteamOS compatibility. The OLED panel can run at 144Hz, but demanding games will not necessarily reach 144 frames per second.

The cost of a larger, more powerful handheld
The Go 2’s 8.8-inch screen and 74Wh battery are major advantages for stationary or long-session play, but the device weighs approximately 920g with controllers attached. It is closer to a portable console PC than a lightweight travel handheld.
Detachable controllers add flexibility for tabletop play and FPS mode, but they also mean more parts to carry and more opportunities for pairing or firmware problems. Battery capacity should not be translated directly into gaming endurance: the larger OLED screen and higher-performance processor can consume substantially more power. Lenovo’s stated 15-hour figure is a maximum local-video-playback claim under specified test conditions, not an estimate for demanding games.
What SteamOS changes
SteamOS gives the Go 2 a console-like interface built around gamepad navigation. It provides quick access to a Steam library, Steam Cloud, Steam Chat, Steam Game Recording, system updates and suspend/resume features. For someone whose games are primarily on Steam, it can remove much of the Windows desktop friction found on conventional handheld PCs.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIt is not Windows with a different launcher. SteamOS uses Linux and Proton to run many Windows games. Compatibility is strong for many titles, but not universal. Check a game’s Steam Deck status, ProtonDB reports, launcher requirements, DRM and anti-cheat support before buying on the assumption that it will work.

Non-Steam launchers may require additional setup. Xbox PC Game Pass does not offer the same experience as on Windows, and games relying on Windows-only utilities or unsupported anti-cheat systems may not run. Lenovo also states that Legion Space is unavailable on SteamOS-configured models and that fingerprint-reader functionality is limited to Windows devices. Windows-first productivity software and peripherals may have similar limitations.
Announcement, price and availability
Lenovo published its Legion Go 2 SteamOS press material on January 6, 2026, and its gaming-community preview referred to the official SteamOS Go 2 shipping later in 2026. Launch coverage reported an expected June 2026 availability window and an estimated starting price of $1,199, but those figures should be treated as launch estimates rather than a universal current price.
As of the August 18, 2026 information snapshot, Lenovo’s US pages showed inconsistent signals: one Gen 2 product page displayed a “starting at” price of $1,099.99, while a category listing showed a specific Gen 2 SKU at $1,799.99. Those figures may reflect different configurations, inventory states, regions or listing errors. The exact SteamOS SKU, operating system, RAM, storage, currency and shipping status should be confirmed on the Lenovo product page before purchase.

Which Legion Go should you buy?
Choose the Legion Go 2 SteamOS when:
- Your library is predominantly on Steam.
- You want the largest OLED display and detachable controllers.
- You value FPS mode and a higher performance ceiling than the Go S.
- You accept Proton, launcher and anti-cheat limitations.
- The verified price is close to the announced estimate rather than an inflated listing.
Choose the Windows Legion Go 2 when:
- You need PC Game Pass, Xbox services, Epic, Battle.net or other Windows-first launchers.
- You rely on Windows-only productivity software or utilities.
- You play multiplayer games whose anti-cheat support on Linux is uncertain.
- You want Lenovo’s complete Windows software stack, including Legion Space.
Choose the Legion Go S SteamOS when:
- You prefer integrated controls and a smaller device.
- You want a simpler SteamOS handheld and do not need detachable controllers.
- The 8-inch-class screen is sufficient and lower price matters more than flagship hardware.
Choose a Steam Deck OLED when:
- You want Valve’s first-party SteamOS experience and established community support.
- You prefer a more conventional, lighter handheld design.
- You can accept a lower performance ceiling than the Z2 Extreme platform.
Valve’s Steam Deck remains the more established SteamOS reference point, while the Go 2 differentiates itself through its larger OLED panel, detachable controls and higher-end hardware target.

Consider Bazzite only if you are comfortable maintaining it
Bazzite can provide a SteamOS-like interface on compatible hardware, including a Windows handheld. It may be attractive to someone who already owns a Legion Go 2 and wants a console-style Linux environment without buying a factory SteamOS edition.
It is not the same as Lenovo’s official SteamOS configuration. Installation can involve backing up the Windows recovery image, repartitioning, boot-menu and Secure Boot changes, firmware issues, controller quirks and recovery work. Community fixes do not automatically provide Lenovo or Valve support.
Bottom line
The Legion Go 2 is genuinely Lenovo’s second handheld announced to ship with SteamOS, after the Legion Go S. Its appeal is hardware-led: an 8.8-inch OLED display, detachable controllers, FPS mode, a 74Wh battery and up to Ryzen Z2 Extreme performance.
