To reserve a World of Warcraft: Forever character name before launch, pre-purchase the Skyborne Heroic Pack, Skyborne Epic Pack, or Warcraft Forever Collection on the Battle.net Shop, install the Forever client, and create your character during the Early Name Reservation window. A subscription or Game Time alone does not qualify, and you do not need active Game Time just to reserve.
The live window runs from 27 October through 3 November 2026, ahead of the 4 November launch. You can create up to three complete characters per WoW account across all rulesets. Forever uses a first name plus a second name, with the complete combination unique throughout your region rather than on an individual realm.

How do I reserve a character name?
You need a qualifying Forever purchase on the specific WoW account that will hold the characters. Once the client is installed, reservation is the same character-creation process you will use at launch.
- Update your graphics drivers. Blizzard lists current drivers as the first prerequisite.
- Install the Battle.net desktop app if it is not already on your computer.
- Open Battle.net and let it update.
- Select World of Warcraft from the games list.
- Open the Game Version menu above the Play button, choose World of Warcraft: Forever, and select Install.
- When installation finishes, select Play and choose a ruleset.
- Create up to three characters, completing the faction, race, class, appearance, and two-part name for each one.
This is not a name-only reservation screen. Each slot is a fully created Forever character that becomes playable when the game launches.

When can I reserve a character name?
Early Name Reservation is open from 27 October through 3 November 2026. Blizzard has published opening times by region but has not published the closing hour on 3 November, so do not plan on waiting until the final evening.

Europe opened first. On 27 October, Blizzard temporarily delayed the mode while fixing technical problems; North American players also saw queues, disconnects, and missing-ruleset reports. Those incidents did not cancel the window. If you are reading this during the period, a greyed-out option can be an active service issue rather than proof that your purchase failed.

Who is eligible, and what does it cost?
Any one of the three digital products below unlocks Early Name Reservation. The Heroic Pack is the least expensive qualifying purchase. Prices were checked in October 2026; regional figures are the shop readings reported for 14 October 2026.

The Battle.net Shop lists Forever upgrades from $29.99. The Epic Pack and Collection include 30 days of Game Time; play outside that included period requires a subscription or additional Game Time. The Heroic Pack unlocks reservation but includes no Game Time.
What does not qualify?
- A World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time by itself.
- A Forever beta code.
- An Invite-a-Friend Launch Code. Those codes provide a friend play access from 4–11 November, not entry to Early Name Reservation.
The benefit applies only to the WoW account for which the product was purchased. Buying additional copies does not expand the three-character allowance on one account; each qualifying copy belongs to a separate WoW account.
Does the physical Collector’s Edition include reservation?
Not before launch. The physical Collector’s Edition contains a digital Warcraft Forever Collection code, but Blizzard says that code must be redeemed before it can grant reservation access. A box that arrives after 3 November therefore cannot help you reserve during the window.

Orders placed before 24 September were scheduled to ship in October 2026; orders placed on or after that date were scheduled for February 2027. The package includes a 7.5-inch Dwarf-and-Bear statue, Zephras Isle mousepad, art prints, pins, a companion journal, the digital Collection code, and 30 days of Game Time. The listing limits purchases to one per household, identifies Americas shipping, and says all sales are final.
If you want the physical items but also want to reserve now, Blizzard’s published workaround is to buy a qualifying digital product first. When the Collector’s Edition code is redeemed by 31 December 2027, an eligible digital purchase can return as Battle.net Balance. Eligibility depends on the product and upgrade path, and some credits require Customer Support; do not assume every digital purchase will convert automatically.

How many characters can I reserve?
The Early Name Reservation cap is three characters per WoW account across all rulesets. It is not three per ruleset. Two PvP characters leave only one slot for Normal, Roleplay, or Roleplay PvP, for example.
Because each slot is a complete character, decide your ruleset, faction, race, class, appearance, and full name before confirming. The three-slot limit applies during the early period; it is not the permanent character limit for the live game.
How do Forever’s two-part names work?
Forever is realmless, so names are not attached to a named server. Every character has a first name and a second name, and only the complete combination must be unique within a region. “Mira Stonebrook” and “Mira Ashvale” can coexist, while another player cannot use the exact full combination “Mira Stonebrook” in that region, regardless of ruleset.
The format supports family-style names: Asha Brightvale, Thalen Brightvale, and Mira Brightvale can all use the same second name when each full combination is available. The same full name cannot be reused on another ruleset in the same region.
Hide the second name in the world
To keep the second name from appearing over your character, press Escape, choose Options, open Nameplates, and enable My Secondary Name. The second name remains visible in chat.
Why is a name rejected?
Names must follow Blizzard’s in-game code of conduct. Filters can block profanity, major Warcraft lore characters, impersonation of Blizzard or the Warcraft team, repeated-character patterns, and other restricted terms. The filter evaluates both parts together, so splitting a blocked word between the first and second names does not necessarily bypass it.

If the complete name is taken or remains invalid, choose another combination or use the in-game random-name generator. Customer Support cannot recover a taken or restricted name.
Which ruleset and faction should I choose?
Your reservation locks in the ruleset for that character. You cannot move a character freely between rulesets later; to play in another one, create a new character there.

Normal
Normal is the PvE-focused ruleset. World PvP is optional, and both factions can be created.
PvP
PvP characters are almost always at risk in the open world. Your first faction choice on this ruleset locks the WoW account to that faction there: creating Alliance prevents Horde creation on PvP, and vice versa. If one faction becomes significantly more populated, creation for that faction can be temporarily restricted. Customer Support will not bypass the lock.

Roleplay
Roleplay applies stricter naming and behavior rules. Names that pass on Normal can still fail the roleplay naming standards.
Roleplay PvP
This combines roleplay rules with open-world PvP. If the option is missing, Blizzard’s support workaround is to select a different ruleset first and then click Ruleset in the top navigation bar.
Hardcore
Hardcore was announced for sometime after launch and is not part of this reservation window.
Oceanic character-creation order
Blizzard lists a known issue for Oceanic players connecting to Australian-based servers: create Roleplay or Roleplay-PvP characters before creating Normal or PvP characters. Creating Normal or PvP first can hide the roleplay options for later characters.

Can I keep my Classic or retail name?
No automatic claim carries over. Forever is a fresh character pool, and retail or WoW Classic names are not reserved for their previous owners. The only announced way to claim a Forever name before launch is Early Name Reservation.
How do I fix common reservation errors?
Use the exact message to identify whether the problem is account eligibility, a population rule, a temporary throttle, or a client configuration issue.

Access to this realm requires an account with valid access license (WOW51900337)
This indicates that the WoW account lacks a qualifying Forever pre-purchase. A subscription, Game Time, beta code, or Invite-a-Friend code will not satisfy this check; verify that the pack was bought for the same WoW account shown in Battle.net.
This faction is currently unavailable on this realm due to population imbalance.
This is the PvP faction-balance restriction. Choose the available faction or another ruleset; Customer Support cannot override it.
Creation of that type of character is currently throttled
Blizzard is temporarily limiting a character type, usually to protect service stability. Wait and retry rather than repeatedly submitting the same request.
This ruleset is temporarily unavailable
Blizzard identifies all-rulesets-greyed-out behavior as unintended and under investigation. Check the service status, restart the client after an update, and try again when the ruleset returns.
Character creation timed out
A timeout usually means the creation request did not complete. Confirm that the character is not already listed before submitting another attempt, then retry after the current load eases.
That name is restricted
Try a different full combination. If you were blocked by the known “c-o-n” false-positive issue, retry after the regional restart containing Blizzard’s fix. Support cannot manually release a restricted name.
The Play button is greyed out
Check the Battle.net app region. Click your BattleTag, log out, then use the cogwheel on the login module to switch regions so the app matches the WoW play region.

Reserved characters are your live characters and become playable at the worldwide launch on 4 November 2026 at 3:00 p.m. PST (23:00 UTC). From launch onward, anyone with a subscription or Game Time can create Forever characters without buying a pack; the purchase only provided early access to the name-reservation window.

The 30 days of Game Time in the Epic Pack and Collection starts at launch. Invite-a-Friend Launch Codes cover play from 4–11 November for the invited player, but they still do not include Skyborne access or Early Name Reservation.
How was the 2019 WoW Classic reservation different?
The original WoW Classic process is useful historical context but does not describe Forever’s eligibility or naming system.

Classic’s 2019 instructions sent players through Battle.net to the World of Warcraft Classic version, then to a realm and Create New Character. After launch, Classic used limits of 10 characters per realm and 50 per region, separate from retail limits. Those realm caps and the old subscription requirement should not be applied to Forever.
Reservation checklist
- Qualifying pack purchased on the correct WoW account.
- Battle.net desktop app installed and updated.
- Forever selected in the Game Version menu and installed.
- Battle.net region matches the WoW play region.
- Three or fewer total characters planned across all rulesets.
- Ruleset and, on PvP, faction chosen deliberately.
- Several complete first-name/second-name combinations prepared in case the first choice is taken or filtered.
- Reservation completed before the unpublished closing hour on 3 November.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I rename a Forever character after reserving it?
Blizzard had not published a paid name-change service for Forever as of 27 October 2026. Treat every reservation as a final choice and prepare alternate full combinations before using a slot.
Does deleting a reserved character immediately free its name?
Blizzard’s Forever support guidance does not promise immediate name release after deletion. The 2019 Classic behavior should not be assumed to apply, so do not delete a character merely to test whether its name can be reclaimed.
Are character-name length and accent rules published?
As of 27 October 2026, Blizzard had not published a character-name length limit or a complete list of permitted accented characters for each name part. The in-game validator is the authority when you create the character.

Forever does not support freely transferring a character between rulesets. To play under a different ruleset, you need another character slot and must follow that ruleset’s faction and naming rules.
