The Logitech G27 is a legacy simulator wheel, not a current-generation console peripheral. In 2026, it makes sense only for a buyer who can obtain a complete, tested used set for compatible PC software, PlayStation 2, or PlayStation 3. It should not be recommended as an officially supported PS5, PS4, Xbox, or Nintendo wheel.
Verdict: The Logitech G27 is still a credible old-school sim-racing wheel, but it is not a sensible general-purpose console wheel in 2026. Buy one only if you want a complete, tested used set for compatible Windows racing software, PlayStation 2, or PlayStation 3. It is not officially supported as a plug-and-play wheel for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox, or Nintendo consoles.

The G27’s appeal is easy to understand: it combines a 900-degree wheel, dual-motor force feedback, a clutch pedal, a six-speed H-pattern shifter, and a solid-feeling metal pedal set in one package. Its problem is age. Official console support is limited, its original PC requirements are obsolete, and a used example may have worn electronics, pedals, cables, or shifter components. In 2026, compatibility and condition matter more than the model’s once-impressive specification sheet.

What the Logitech G27 includes
The G27 was designed as a traditional simulator rather than a casual arcade accessory. Logitech’s technical documentation specifies an 11-inch leather-wrapped wheel, a 40- to 900-degree steering range with soft stops, dual-motor force feedback, and helical gearing. The original system also includes a three-pedal unit and a separate shifter.
#1 Best Overall
- Immersive Gaming Experience: Perfect for PlayStation 5, PS4 and PC gaming titles, the Driving Force simulates the feeling of driving a real car with precision steering and pressure-sensitive pedals
- Premium Control: The Driving Force feedback racing wheel provides a detailed simulation of driving a real car, with helical gearing delivering smooth, quiet steering and a hand-stitched leather cover
- Customizable Pedals: These pressure-sensitive nonlinear brake pedals provide a responsive, accurate braking feel on a sturdy base - with adjustable pedal faces for finer control
- 900-Degree Rotation: Lock-to-lock rotation of the Driving Force means you can turn the wheel around two and a half times, hand over hand on wide turns - just like a real F1 race car
- Up Your Game: Take your racing simulation to the next level with Driving Force accessories like the Driving Force Shifter or desk and rig mounts
- Wheel: 11-inch leather-wrapped rim with buttons, paddle shifters, and RPM/shift indicator LEDs.
- Rotation: Adjustable from 40 degrees to 900 degrees.
- Force feedback: Dual motors with helical gearing, intended to reproduce steering resistance, road effects, traction loss, and weight transfer.
- Pedals: Separate steel accelerator, brake, and clutch pedals.
- Shifter: Six-speed H-pattern gate with a push-down reverse mechanism, plus sequential shifting through the wheel paddles.
- Connection: Corded USB setup with a 24-volt, 1.5-amp autoswitching power adapter specified by Logitech.
Those features remain the reason enthusiasts still seek the G27. A three-pedal manual-transmission layout is more immersive than a basic two-pedal starter wheel, and the H-pattern shifter is useful in cars that require clutch-and-stick driving. The design is especially appropriate for older simulation titles and PC setups where the owner is willing to configure controls manually.
Driving features: what still holds up
900-degree steering
The wide steering range is useful for road-car simulation because the virtual wheel can broadly match the movement of a real car’s steering wheel. The range can also be reduced for titles or vehicles that need quicker response. The G27 uses soft stops at the ends of its rotation range.
However, a specification is not the same as a modern driving experience. The G27’s force-feedback system is an older dual-motor design, and its age means the actual condition of the gears, encoder, motors, and power supply matters. A healthy example may still be enjoyable; a worn example can have center drift, inconsistent feedback, noise, or calibration problems.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsForce feedback and helical gearing
Logitech built the G27’s force feedback around two motors and helical gearing. The gearing was intended to make the mechanism smoother and quieter than some older straight-cut gear systems while conveying changes in grip and steering load.
Do not interpret this as equivalent to a current direct-drive wheel. The G27 has much less force and refinement than modern enthusiast hardware, and it lacks the expansion path associated with newer wheelbase ecosystems. Its force feedback is best understood as a useful entry-level-to-intermediate simulator feature, not a reason to pay a premium for an old unit.
Pedals and manual shifting
The three steel pedals are one of the G27’s strongest features. The clutch makes manual-transmission simulation possible, while the brake and accelerator provide a more complete layout than two-pedal wheels. The six-speed shifter includes a push-down reverse position, and the wheel’s paddles provide an alternative sequential-shifting method.
On a used unit, though, pedal construction does not guarantee pedal condition. Potentiometers can become dirty or inconsistent, pedal springs can weaken, and cables or connectors can be damaged. Test every pedal across its entire travel rather than confirming only that it registers a press.

The LEDs above the wheel are a distinctive G27 feature, but they are not universal indicators. Logitech explains that the game must provide RPM information and explicitly support the indicator. A title can recognize the wheel while leaving the LEDs inactive.

- REALISTIC RACING SIMULATION DUO: Feel what is like to drive a real race car with G29 Driving Force Racing Wheel & Pedals and Driving Force Shifter
- PAIRED FOR PRECISION: Take full control of the race with G29 Driving Force Racing Wheel & Pedals and Driving Force Shifter
- PRECISE CONTROL: Helical transmission gears reduce noise and vibration with anti-backlash keeping wheel and pedals tight. The six-speed “H” shifter helps you execute smooth, accurate gear transitions
- FORCE FEEDBACK: The dual motor force-feedback realistically simulates the feel of tires on a turn, understeer, oversteer, drifting and more
- PREMIUM BUILT: Look, feel and durability of a real race car wheel, pedals and shifter. Wheel cover, knob and boot are covered in high-quality, hand-stitched leather with a solid steel gear shaft and polished metal pedals
That makes the LEDs a bonus rather than a buying requirement. If they matter to you, verify support for the exact game and platform before purchasing. Do not assume that a game supporting another Logitech wheel exposes every G27 feature.
Compatibility in 2026
PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3
Official Logitech documentation identifies PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 as the G27’s supported consoles. The individual game must also support the wheel. A historical PlayStation example is MotorStorm Apocalypse, whose PS3 update listed the Logitech G27 among supported steering wheels.
Even on a supported PS2 or PS3 title, compatibility may be partial. Logitech warns that a game supporting an older Logitech USB wheel—such as the Driving Force Pro or G25—may recognize the G27 without exposing every feature. The H-gate shifter, clutch, 900-degree rotation, and other advanced functions may depend on explicit game support.
PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5
The G27 should not be described as a PS4 or PS5 plug-and-play wheel. Logitech’s official G27 support information limits console support to PS2 and PS3. Adapters and unofficial workarounds may exist in the wider market, but they introduce another compatibility layer and are not evidence of native official support.
If you need a Logitech wheel for current PlayStation hardware, the G29 is the more defensible choice. Logitech explicitly lists the G29 for PS5, PS4, PS3, and Windows PC, subject to support by the game. That makes the G29 a much safer recommendation for a buyer starting from zero.
Xbox and Nintendo
The G27 should not be presented as officially compatible with Xbox consoles or Nintendo hardware. Avoid listings or reviews that treat its USB connection as proof that it will work everywhere. Racing-wheel compatibility is determined by the console ecosystem, firmware, drivers, adapters, and the game—not by the presence of a USB plug alone.
Windows PC
PC is the G27’s most flexible modern use case, but also the one that requires the most qualification. The original documentation specifies a Windows PC running Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7, with 20 MB of disk space, a CD-ROM drive, and an available USB port. Those requirements are historical and should not be treated as current Windows 10 or Windows 11 certification.
Recommended Free Tools
Some modern PC racing games may still detect the G27, and community-created configurations can sometimes help with older hardware. Results vary by game, operating system, driver layer, and connection setup. Logitech’s legacy support material also says its Firmware Update Tool is no longer supported or maintained.
Rank #3
- The powerful, dual-motor force feedback mechanism with helical gearing smoothly and accurately simulates traction loss
- Six-speed shifter with push-down reverse gear allows you to quickly choose exactly the right gear.
- RPM/shift indicator LEDs integrate with racing game software to indicate when the user should shift gears.
- Realistic 11-Inch wheel with leather-wrapped rim provides a more comfortable, true-to-life racing experience for hours on end.
- Steel gas, brake, and clutch pedals deliver precise throttle, braking, and shifting control for heightened realism.
Windows security settings can add another complication. Microsoft explains that Memory Integrity may block incompatible drivers and recommends obtaining an updated compatible driver from the manufacturer. Disabling Memory Integrity can reduce secured-core protections, so it should not be treated as a routine G27 fix. If the operating system blocks a legacy driver, first check for a supported configuration or a game that recognizes the wheel without it; do not weaken security casually just to make an old peripheral work.
Game support: the feature checklist matters
“Works with Logitech wheels” is not a sufficiently precise compatibility claim. Before buying, check the exact game and ask which of these features it supports:
- Wheel input and adjustable steering rotation
- Force feedback
- Three separate pedal axes
- Clutch input
- H-pattern six-speed shifting
- Push-down reverse
- Sequential paddle shifting
- RPM/shift LEDs
Logitech’s guidance indicates that a title supporting the Driving Force Pro or G25 may also support the G27, but that is a starting point—not a guarantee that every G27 control will function. Confirm the platform, operating system, game version, required drivers or configuration tools, and connection method before committing money.
Buying a used G27: the inspection checklist
Because the G27 is generally encountered through the used market, the condition of the individual set is more important than the name on the front. Ask the seller for a video or in-person demonstration whenever possible.
1. Confirm the complete package
At minimum, verify that the listing includes:
- Wheel base and steering rim
- Three-pedal unit
- Separate shifter
- Correct power adapter
- USB cable and required interconnect cables
- Any original connectors needed to join the pedals and shifter to the wheel base
A missing power supply or proprietary cable can turn a seemingly cheap purchase into a difficult repair. Logitech specifies a 24-volt, 1.5-amp autoswitching adapter for the system, but confirm the exact electrical requirements and connector before buying a replacement.
2. Watch the startup calibration
When powered on, the wheel should complete its normal calibration movement and return to a sensible center position. Ask whether it centers consistently on repeated startups. Grinding, failure to calibrate, violent behavior, or a visibly off-center wheel deserves explanation before purchase.
3. Test the steering and force feedback
In a known-compatible game or suitable PC control panel, check the full steering range and return-to-center behavior. Move the wheel slowly through its rotation and look for dead spots, sudden jumps, or an unreliable center. Confirm that force feedback activates rather than merely confirming that the game sees button presses.
This is an inspection recommendation, not a claim that every G27 has these faults. It is simply the correct way to evaluate an old electromechanical product.

4. Test every pedal through its full travel
Confirm that the accelerator, brake, and clutch each appear as separate inputs and register smoothly from rest to full travel. Intermittent readings, a pedal that stays partially engaged, or a value that jumps while held can make the wheel frustrating or unusable in simulation.
5. Test all shifter positions and buttons
Check first through sixth gear, reverse, neutral, and the sequential operation if you intend to use it. Test the shifter buttons and the wheel’s paddles independently. A seller demonstrating only the steering wheel has not demonstrated that the complete G27 package works.
6. Verify the LEDs in a supported title
Inactive RPM LEDs do not automatically mean the wheel is defective. The game must send RPM data and support the indicator. Treat this as a software compatibility check as well as a hardware check.
7. Inspect physical condition
Look for damaged cable insulation, loose connectors, cracked plastic around mounting points, missing screws, excessive shifter play, worn wheel covering, and pedal bases that slide under braking. Ask whether the unit has been opened or repaired and whether any parts are third-party replacements.
Where the G27 still makes sense
- Existing PC sim-racing owner: You already have a compatible game and can test the wheel before buying.
- PS2 or PS3 owner: You specifically want a traditional wheel for a title that documents G27 support.
- Manual-transmission enthusiast: The clutch and H-pattern shifter are included rather than requiring separate purchases.
- Repair-minded buyer: You understand that an old wheel may need maintenance and are buying at a price that reflects the risk.
A stable mounting solution can make a major difference because a wheel and three-pedal set are difficult to use comfortably on an ordinary lap desk. If you need one, compare a sim racing wheel stand by checking its wheel-mount pattern, pedal plate, adjustability, folding dimensions, and stated load capacity. Do not assume every stand fits every G27 or G29 setup.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who should avoid it
- PS5 or PS4 buyers who want guaranteed plug-and-play operation.
- Xbox and Nintendo owners looking for an officially supported console wheel.
- Buyers who want current manufacturer support for firmware, drivers, and troubleshooting.
- People unwilling to test used electronics before the return period expires.
- Anyone paying close to the cost of a supported modern wheel simply because the G27 includes a shifter.
G27 versus G29: the more useful comparison
| Factor | G27 | G29 |
|---|---|---|
| Best role in 2026 | Used legacy simulator wheel | Supported Logitech option for newer PlayStation and PC buyers |
| Officially documented console support | PS2 and PS3 | PS5, PS4, and PS3 |
| PC | Possible with selected modern games and configurations; original requirements are dated | Listed by Logitech for Windows PC, subject to game support |
| Steering range | 40–900 degrees | 900 degrees |
| Pedals | Three-pedal set included | Three-pedal set included |
| Shifter | Six-speed shifter included in the original system | Driving Force Shifter is optional |
| Buying risk | Used condition, legacy support, variable completeness | Usually the clearer supported-platform purchase, though exact stock and pricing vary |
The Logitech G29 racing wheel and pedals are the more rational choice when the buyer needs current PlayStation compatibility. The G27 remains attractive only when its lower used-market cost, included shifter, or compatibility with an existing older setup outweighs the support risk.
Upgrade and repair paths
Logitech’s newer ecosystem
Logitech’s Racing Adapter supports older G25/G27/G29/G920/G923 pedals with the RS50 wheelbase. This is an ecosystem-compatibility option for someone moving toward newer Logitech hardware; it is not proof that the G27 wheel base itself becomes natively compatible with modern consoles.
Logitech’s current RS H-Shifter is a newer seven-speed-plus-reverse accessory. Logitech states that it can connect to the RS50/PRO wheel or directly to a PC by USB. Console use with G-Series wheels requires the Logitech G Racing Adapter. Treat it as a current accessory for the newer ecosystem, not as a direct G27 replacement without checking the entire adapter, wheelbase, and platform chain.

Repairing an incomplete G27
Separate pedals and shifter hardware create legitimate repair searches. If a used unit is otherwise healthy, a Logitech G27 shifter replacement, G27 pedal replacement, or correctly specified power adapter may be worth investigating. Verify connector type, electrical requirements, mounting, firmware or calibration needs, and seller return terms. Third-party parts vary in quality, and a cheap replacement is not automatically a reliable repair.
Final buying recommendation
Buy the G27 in 2026 only as a deliberately chosen legacy wheel. The best purchase is a complete set with a working power adapter, successful startup calibration, smooth steering, functioning force feedback, three healthy pedals, a responsive shifter, and a return option. Confirm the exact game and platform before paying.
For PS2 and PS3 racing, or for a compatible PC simulator at the right used price, the G27 can still deliver the control layout that makes sim racing enjoyable: wide steering rotation, force feedback, a clutch, and a real H-pattern shifter. For PS5, PS4, Xbox, Nintendo, or hassle-free modern PC ownership, choose a supported current wheel instead—most directly, Logitech’s G29 for PlayStation users.
