Yes—the Logitech G502 HERO is worth buying if you want a right-handed, wired mouse with many programmable controls, extensive DPI adjustment, onboard profiles, RGB lighting and tunable weight. Its 121 g base weight and fixed cable make it a poor match for anyone specifically seeking a wireless or ultralight mouse.
The HERO 25K sensor tracks from 100 to 25,600 DPI, while Logitech rates it for more than 400 IPS tracking speed, more than 40 G acceleration and a 1,000 Hz (1 ms) report rate. You get 11 programmable buttons, five optional 3.6 g weights and a 2.1 m cable.

What the Logitech G502 HERO is
The G502 HERO is a feature-heavy gaming mouse designed for right-handed use. It connects over a cable rather than wirelessly and combines Logitech’s HERO 25K optical sensor with LIGHTSYNC RGB, onboard profile storage, programmable controls and adjustable mass. Logitech describes it as “a legendary gaming mouse built for performance and customization.”
That design makes the G502 HERO particularly suitable for players who use several commands, want a dedicated DPI-switching control or move between computers without rebuilding their settings. The trade-off is straightforward: this is not a minimalist mouse. Its base mass is substantial compared with ultralight designs, and the cable remains attached during use.

How many buttons does the G502 HERO have?
The G502 HERO has 11 programmable buttons. Logitech G HUB lets you assign commands, keyboard actions, macros and other functions to those controls. The exact layout is built around a standard left- and right-click arrangement plus extra thumb and top-panel controls, including a button intended for changing DPI during play.
Eleven assignments are useful in games with large action bars, inventory shortcuts, push-to-talk, melee and ability commands. They can also help in creative or productivity software, where repeated shortcuts can be placed on the mouse instead of the keyboard. A macro may be restricted by a particular game or tournament rule set, so check the software’s rules before using one online.

Programming the buttons in G HUB
- Connect the G502 HERO to the computer and open Logitech G HUB.
- Select the G502 HERO from the device list.
- Open the button-assignment controls and select the physical button you want to change.
- Choose a command, keyboard input, macro or application action, then apply it to the selected button.
- Test every assignment in a safe environment before using it in a competitive match.
Keep a simple layout for your primary game first. Assign the controls you can reach without changing your grip, then add less frequently used commands. A crowded layout is only helpful when you can identify each button reliably.
HERO 25K sensor and DPI range
The HERO 25K sensor supports a continuous range from 100 to 25,600 DPI. Logitech specifies zero smoothing, filtering and acceleration, more than 400 IPS maximum speed, more than 40 G maximum acceleration and a 1,000 Hz (1 ms) report rate.
DPI is a sensitivity setting, not a quality score. A very high number does not automatically improve aim; it simply moves the pointer farther for the same physical movement. Many players use a moderate setting for precise aiming and reserve a higher stage for menus or rapid desktop navigation.

Setting DPI stages
- In G HUB, open the G502 HERO’s sensitivity or DPI controls.
- Add, remove or edit the DPI stages you want to cycle through.
- Choose the default stage and assign a button for DPI switching if you want to change sensitivity during a game.
- Move the mouse in a practice area and adjust the stages until each one has a clear purpose.
- Save the configuration to an onboard profile if you want it available on another computer.
Because the sensor is specified without smoothing, filtering or acceleration, the movement signal is intended to remain consistent across its range. Your actual results still depend on the game’s sensitivity settings, operating-system settings, surface and personal technique.

Weight adjustment and physical feel
The mouse weighs 121 g before adding weights. Five optional 3.6 g weights let you tune balance and mass in small increments. You can add all five for a heavier feel, use only some to bias the balance, or leave them out when you want the lightest configuration the design allows.
Weight tuning is useful when you prefer a mouse that feels planted for controlled movements or when you want to reduce the effort required for repeated swipes. It cannot turn the G502 HERO into an ultralight mouse: even without the optional weights, the 121 g base remains its defining physical characteristic.

Cable and desk setup
The attached cable is 2.1 m long, which is enough for many desk layouts but still needs sensible routing. Leave a gentle loop near the mouse, avoid tight bends at the connector and keep the cable away from the edge where it can snag. A cable-management clip or bungee can reduce drag, but the mouse remains a wired device and does not provide wireless freedom.
The right-handed shape also matters. Left-handed players should treat the G502 HERO as a poor fit unless they are comfortable using a right-handed shell with the opposite hand.
Profiles, lighting and moving between PCs
G HUB controls button assignments, macros, DPI stages, LIGHTSYNC lighting and profile storage. Onboard profiles can carry settings to another PC without requiring a login, which is useful for a second computer, a tournament setup or a shared gaming desk.

Saving a portable profile
- Configure the buttons, DPI stages and lighting in G HUB.
- Open the profile controls and select the onboard-memory option for the G502 HERO.
- Choose the profile you want stored on the mouse and save it.
- Disconnect and reconnect the mouse to verify that the intended assignments remain active.
- On another computer, test the profile in a game or application before relying on it.
Onboard storage is best for core commands and sensitivity settings you want to remain consistent. More elaborate software-dependent macros or application-specific behavior may require G HUB running on the computer.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Installing and configuring the G502 HERO
- Connect it directly. Plug the cable into a functioning USB port. If the mouse is not detected, try another port rather than using an unpowered hub during initial setup.
- Open G HUB. Confirm that the software lists the G502 HERO before changing settings.
- Set a base profile. Choose your main game or a general desktop profile, then assign only the controls you understand.
- Set sensitivity. Configure DPI stages and select a default stage that feels controllable in your usual game.
- Configure lighting. Select LIGHTSYNC behavior that is visible without distracting you from the screen.
- Save onboard settings. Store a portable profile if you regularly use more than one PC.
- Add weights last. Play for a while at the base weight, then add one 3.6 g weight at a time until the balance feels right.
- Test before competition. Check every button, DPI switch and macro in practice mode or on the desktop.
Troubleshooting common problems
The mouse is not detected
- Unplug and reconnect the USB cable.
- Try a different USB port on the computer.
- Close and reopen G HUB, then restart the computer if the device still does not appear.
- Inspect the cable for sharp bends, cuts or strain near the connector.
- Test the mouse on another computer to separate a PC-side software issue from a hardware or cable issue.
A button does the wrong thing
- Open the active G HUB profile and verify that the assignment was saved to the profile currently in use.
- Check whether the game has its own binding that conflicts with the mouse command.
- Temporarily replace a macro with a simple keyboard command to determine whether the problem is the assignment or the macro itself.
- Save the corrected profile to onboard memory if you need the change on another PC.
DPI changes unexpectedly
- Check which button is assigned to DPI switching.
- Move that assignment to a less reachable button if your grip triggers it accidentally.
- Reduce the number of DPI stages so each switch has a clear, predictable result.
- Confirm that the game or operating system has not changed its own sensitivity setting.
The pointer feels inconsistent
- Clean the sensor area gently and use a stable, non-glossy surface.
- Check that the cable is not catching on the desk edge.
- Try the mouse on another surface and compare movement at the same DPI.
- Return to a simple onboard profile to rule out a configuration problem.
Who should buy the G502 HERO?
It is a strong fit for
- Right-handed players who want 11 programmable controls.
- Gamers who switch DPI during play or use several sensitivity stages.
- People who value onboard profiles that can move between PCs without a login.
- Users who prefer a heavier, adjustable mouse rather than an ultralight shell.
- Players who want RGB lighting and detailed software customization.
Consider another design if
- You specifically need wireless connectivity and freedom from a cable.
- You want the lowest possible weight for large, fast swipes.
- You use the mouse left-handed.
- You need only a few buttons and would rather have a simpler layout.
When comparing alternatives, focus on the differences that affect your use: wired versus wireless connectivity, total weight, button count, sensor range and the quality of the configuration software. A model with fewer buttons may be easier to grip; a wireless model may be more convenient; an ultralight model may move more easily. Those are design trade-offs, not automatic performance rankings.
Maintenance and long-term use
- Keep food, dust and liquid away from the buttons and wheel.
- Use a dry, soft cloth for the shell and follow the manufacturer’s care guidance for the sensor area.
- Store unused weights so they do not rattle or get lost.
- Route the cable with a loose bend instead of folding it tightly.
- Keep a backup of your preferred G HUB profile and an onboard copy of the settings you use most.
Regular cleaning protects the feel of the controls, while a saved profile makes recovery faster if software settings are reset.

Final buying verdict
The Logitech G502 HERO remains a compelling choice for a right-handed player who values control density and customization more than minimal weight or wireless convenience. Its 11 programmable buttons, 100–25,600 DPI HERO 25K sensor, onboard profiles, LIGHTSYNC RGB and five removable weights give it a broad range of uses. Buy it when those features match your priorities; choose a different mouse when wireless operation, left-handed use or an ultralight design is the deciding requirement.
