Assuming the unnamed game is Luma Island, it sits closer to Animal Crossing than to The Sims 4—but adds farming, professions, temples, magical companions and optional combat. Feel Free Games announced a PS5 version on September 24, 2026, yet did not announce a release date, price or physical edition. The PC version launched in November 2024. This comparison therefore describes published features and announced plans, not a PS5 performance review.
The headline does not identify its game. Luma Island is the reasonable working interpretation because the developer announced its PS5 version as a new cozy, Animal Crossing-like game. If the intended title is inZOI, this comparison should not be used: its official listing documents a PC/Mac Early Access life simulator centered on characters, homes and city simulation, with no established PS5 release (Steam listing).

Is Luma Island actually available on PS5?
No. Feel Free Games announced that Luma Island is coming to PS5 and opened PlayStation Store wishlisting on September 24, 2026, but the announcement supplied no launch date. “Luma Island is coming to PS5. You can wishlist it on PlayStation Store starting today,” lead developer Bram Eisenhardt wrote in the PlayStation Blog announcement.
The distinction matters because the game already exists on PC. The November 2024 PC launch is the source of the developer’s claim that more than 800,000 players had joined by the September 2026 announcement. That is a historical player figure for the PC-era game, not copies sold, a current concurrent-player count or evidence that a PS5 build is already playable.

There is also no announced PS5 price, boxed edition or disc. Steam pricing for the PC release cannot establish a console launch price. Until Feel Free Games publishes those details, treat store wishlisting as an availability signal rather than a release commitment.
How does Luma Island compare with The Sims 4?
The Sims 4 is fundamentally a people-and-household simulator. Luma Island is presented as an explorable farm and adventure game whose starting point is one player’s rundown farm and caravan. The two overlap in building and customization, but their primary units of play are different.
Who are you controlling?
In The Sims 4, you create Sims, place them in homes, manage relationships and direct careers. The central decisions concern personalities, household routines, social ties and life goals. The PlayStation base game is free, while expansion and game packs are optional purchases; Sony lists the base game for PS4, and PS4 games can run on PS5 under Sony’s backward-compatibility guidance (PlayStation game page).
Luma Island instead advertises a player rebuilding a neglected farm and developing an island. Its published description does not establish a Sims-style system of multiple households, aging, needs meters or career schedules. Choosing a profession appears to shape what you do in the world, not to turn the game into a household-management sandbox.
Is building the same in both games?
No. The Sims 4 emphasizes constructing and furnishing individual homes, with room layouts and objects serving the needs and identities of Sims. Luma Island stresses expanding and decorating a farm as a base for wider exploration. Both let you personalize a living space, but one is home-and-household design while the other connects construction to resource gathering and adventure.

What replaces a Sims career loop?
Feel Free Games advertises eight professions in Luma Island. Those professions are part of the island’s activity structure: they point you toward different work and exploration goals while you improve the farm. The announcement does not describe promotions, wages, workplace relationships or the branching career ladders familiar from The Sims 4, so it would be misleading to call them equivalent systems.
How does Luma Island compare with Animal Crossing?
The strongest resemblance is to Animal Crossing: both foreground an inviting island, fishing, collecting and decorating rather than realistic domestic simulation. The difference is that Luma Island advertises a more directed adventure-and-progression loop, while Animal Crossing: New Horizons centers on daily island life and its animal residents.
Daily routine versus open-ended exploration
Animal Crossing is built around changing daily discoveries, resident interactions, collecting and gradual island improvement. You decorate a home and, later, reshape parts of the island’s landscape. Its pleasure comes from checking in, finding seasonal items and deciding how your community should look.
Luma Island combines farming with forests, caves, temples and a Pirate Cove. The island is not merely a backdrop for decoration; it is a set of places to explore and objectives to pursue. Its three advertised modes—Cozy, Adventure and Hero—let players choose how much challenge they want, including a more combat-oriented option that Animal Crossing does not present as a core pillar.
Residents and companions
Nintendo’s game places animal villagers at the center of the social experience. Feel Free Games instead highlights magical Lumas as companions. A Luma is therefore better understood as part of the game’s fantasy-adventure identity than as a direct substitute for an Animal Crossing villager with a daily schedule and relationship dialogue.

Decoration and progression
Both games support decorating a personal home and the surrounding island, but the purpose differs. Animal Crossing gives broad creative control over a settled community. Luma Island ties farm development to professions, resources and access to adventure locations. If your priority is arranging a village and collecting furniture at your own pace, Nintendo’s formula is the closer fit; if you want decorating to feed into exploration and goals, Luma Island’s published design points in another direction.
What does Luma Island add beyond the two comparisons?
Its distinctive pitch is the combination of cozy customization with a conventional adventure structure. The developer’s description identifies several systems that neither comparison should obscure.
- Eight professions: different work paths give the island’s activities a clearer specialization than a purely decorative life sim.
- Farm development: the rundown farm and caravan are the starting point for building out a functional home base.
- Exploration zones: forests, temples, caves and Pirate Cove expand the game beyond a single residential island.
- Magical Lumas: companions add a fantasy element absent from the grounded household premise of The Sims 4 and the animal-villager structure of Animal Crossing.
- Adjustable challenge: Cozy, Adventure and Hero modes are presented as three ways to set the experience’s intensity.
These are developer-described features, not confirmation of how the PS5 build will perform or whether every PC feature will ship unchanged on console. The announcement does not provide PS5 frame-rate targets, controller-specific functions, trophy details or feature parity notes.
Can you play Luma Island with friends on PS5?
Feel Free Games says Luma Island supports solo play or up to four players online. It also says the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC versions will support cross-platform play. That is a planned online feature, not a claim that the PS5 version has launched.
Nothing in the announcement confirms same-console split-screen or couch co-op. Do not buy a second controller expecting local multiplayer. Sony’s DualSense wireless controller is an optional PS5 accessory, but the published Luma Island material does not say that the game requires extra controllers or uses adaptive triggers.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has its own Nintendo multiplayer and island-visit rules, tied to Switch hardware and Nintendo’s online-service conditions. Its multiplayer cannot connect to Luma Island’s proposed cross-play network. The Sims 4 is likewise a separate single-player household simulation in the comparison presented here.
What is confirmed, and what remains unknown about the PS5 version?
The September 2026 announcement confirms a PS5 version is planned and available to wishlist. It does not confirm when it launches, what it costs, whether a physical disc will exist, or whether the console release will match the current PC build in every detail.

Choose Luma Island if you want an island adventure
It is the best fit for players who want farming and decoration to lead into temples, caves, Pirate Cove, professions and fantasy companions. The announced online mode also makes it the only one of these three with a stated four-player cross-platform plan.
Choose The Sims 4 if households are the point
Pick The Sims 4 when your main interest is designing people, arranging homes, managing relationships and steering careers. Its free PlayStation base game means PS5 owners can begin without buying an expansion, although the base game itself is the PS4 version running through backward compatibility.

Choose Animal Crossing if you want a gentle daily ritual
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the clearest choice for resident relationships, collecting, seasonal discovery and unhurried island decoration. It requires Nintendo hardware rather than a PS5; Nintendo also lists a distinct Switch 2 Edition.
What should a PS5 player do before buying?
- Check that the PlayStation Store listing is for Luma Island and add it to your wishlist; wishlisting does not mean the game has released.
- Wait for Feel Free Games to publish the launch date, PS5 price and any physical-edition details before treating the game as a purchase-ready product.
- If you want a playable life sim immediately on PS5, download the free The Sims 4 base game and decide later whether optional packs add systems you need.
- If the appeal is Nintendo’s resident-focused island routine, plan around Switch or Switch 2 hardware instead; there is no native PS5 edition of Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
