The wording of the error helps determine the next step:
- “The program can’t start because lxkpsrd.dll is missing from your computer.” The file may have been removed, quarantined, or deleted with part of the driver.
- “The code execution cannot proceed because lxkpsrd.dll was not found.” Windows cannot locate the DLL where the application expects it.

1. Identify the printer model
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Note the exact Lexmark model.
- Select the printer and record whether it is currently online or offline.
If several Lexmark printers are installed, do not assume that reinstalling one model will repair another model’s driver. The affected application may be tied to a different printer package.
2. Remove the damaged printer software
Before reinstalling, close applications that print, including document editors, PDF software, and print-monitor utilities.
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Search for Lexmark.
- Uninstall the Lexmark software associated with the affected printer.
- Restart Windows.
Then remove the printer entry:
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.

Do not select a similarly named Lexmark model simply because it appears in search results. The wrong package may install a different rendering component and leave the original error unchanged.

Run the downloaded installer, follow its prompts, reconnect or select the printer when requested, and restart Windows when installation finishes.
4. Confirm the repair
Test the result in this order:
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the Lexmark printer.
- Choose Print a test page, if available.
- Print from the application that originally displayed the error.
- Restart Windows and confirm that the message does not return.
If the error remains, note the full path shown in the message. A copy expected in a Lexmark driver directory is different from a copy expected by a particular application.

Fix 2: Check Microsoft Defender quarantine

If the file exists but the application still reports that it cannot load it, the problem may be a missing dependency or an incompatible driver. Reinstall the exact Lexmark package rather than moving the file between folders.
Fix 4: Repair Windows components when installation infrastructure is damaged
Use DISM and SFC when Windows servicing components, system files, or the driver installation infrastructure may also be corrupted. These commands do not replace the Lexmark driver package, because SFC is not a source for a missing third-party DLL.
First install pending Windows updates:
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Choose Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart Windows.
Then open an elevated Command Prompt:
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Select Run as administrator.

- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Wait for DISM to finish. Then run:
sfc /scannow

A message stating that SFC found and repaired corrupted files indicates that Windows repaired system components. It does not confirm that lxkpsrd.dll has been restored. If both commands complete without repairing the error, return to the exact Lexmark driver reinstall.

Fix 5: Remove a stale startup or print reference

Start with installed applications:

- Search for Lexmark.
- Uninstall software for printers you no longer use.

Then inspect startup entries:

- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers and Print queues.
- Right-click the Lexmark device.
- Select Uninstall device.
- If offered, select the option to remove the driver package.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the correct driver from Lexmark.
If the printer is connected over USB, disconnect it during removal and reconnect it only when the installer requests it. For a network printer, confirm that the printer’s network address or discovery entry is still correct.

System Restore is appropriate when the error began immediately after a driver update, software installation, or other identifiable change and a suitable restore point exists.
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
rstrui.exe, then press Enter. - Select Next.
- Choose a restore point created before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the changes.
- Select Finish and allow Windows to restart.
System Restore normally preserves personal files, but it can revert system files, registry settings, drivers, and installed programs. Use it only when you understand what will be rolled back. Afterward, reinstall the correct Lexmark driver if necessary.
What not to do
Do not download lxkpsrd.dll from a random DLL site

The correct location may be the Lexmark driver directory or the application directory. Copying a DLL into a system folder can create version conflicts and make future troubleshooting harder.
Do not run regsvr32 as a general repair
regsvr32 is intended for self-registering OLE and ActiveX components. A printer-rendering DLL may not export DllRegisterServer, so this command can produce another error without repairing the driver.
Do not run:
regsvr32 lxkpsrd.dll
Use it only if Lexmark’s instructions for the exact driver explicitly require registration. A missing or unloadable rendering component is normally repaired by reinstalling its parent driver package.
Do not install unrelated runtimes first
There is no reliable evidence that this file belongs to Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET. Installing those runtimes as a generic response is unlikely to repair a damaged Lexmark installation.
