The Magic: The Gathering | Marvel’s Spider-Man prerelease took place at local game stores in September 2025, before the set’s September 26 tabletop release. The event window was listed as September 19–25, with September 19–21 highlighted as the prerelease weekend. It has passed; this guide explains how the event worked, what the Spider-Man Prerelease Pack contained, and what players needed to know.
What was the Spider-Man prerelease?
A Magic: The Gathering prerelease is an in-store event held ahead of a set’s full release. Players open new cards, build a deck, and play against other attendees. Wizards described the Spider-Man event as a chance to try the set’s cards and mechanics with other players. The tabletop set released on September 26, 2025.

Wizards’ event guide and collecting information listed prerelease events for September 19–25, 2025. The product page separately highlighted September 19–21 as the prerelease weekend. These dates describe different calendar listings, not an event that is still upcoming. Wizards advised players to contact their local game store for event details.
What came in the Spider-Man Prerelease Pack?
Each Spider-Man Prerelease Pack contained the materials for a Sealed event:
#1 Best Overall
- Contents: 6 Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes Play Boosters Each Play Booster contains 14 Magic: The Gathering cards May contain these cards: MSH 1–384; MAR 41–100 1–4 cards of rarity rare o
- Six Magic: The Gathering | Marvel’s Spider-Man Play Boosters
- One traditional foil, year-stamped rare or mythic rare
- One deck box
- One spindown die, in one of five colors
The pack was the event kit; buying a booster box or other set product was not required to attend. Stores supplied basic lands for deck construction, so players did not need to bring their own card collection.
How did Sealed deck construction work?
In the typical prerelease Sealed format described in the Spider-Man guide, players built a 40-card deck from the cards in their six Play Boosters and any number of basic lands. The guide recommends that most players concentrate on two colors rather than trying to use every color represented in their pool.
- Open the six Play Boosters and sort the cards by color and type.
- Choose a workable pool of cards, usually focusing on two colors.
- Build a deck of at least 40 cards, adding basic lands as needed. The store provides those lands.
- Play the event’s rounds according to the store’s pairings and schedule.
Web-slinging was the set’s headline mechanic. The guide presents it as a way to replay cards and gain value; Spider-Man India and Gallant Citizen are examples of cards that use it. Reading the exact text on each card matters when deciding how its ability fits into a limited deck.
How long did the event take, and what should players bring?
Wizards’ general prerelease FAQ says most events take four to five hours, including deck construction, pairings, and breaks. That is a general estimate, not a guaranteed duration for every Spider-Man event; the local store was the source for a particular event’s start time and schedule.

Players generally needed their prerelease pack and a way to pay the store’s event fee, if applicable. Because store arrangements and local schedules can differ, attendees were best served by confirming details directly with the organizer. Basic lands were supplied, and the kit included a deck box.

Wizards lists SPM as the main Spider-Man set code and identifies it as Standard-legal. The related codes SPE and MAR are listed as Eternal-legal for Commander, Legacy, and Vintage. A specific card may also be legal in a format because it appears in another set, so check the card’s printing and the format’s rules rather than relying on the Spider-Man set name alone.
Spider-Man Play Boosters contain cards from SPM and MAR. Wizards says cards opened from those boosters can be used in Draft and Sealed for the set. That limited-play guidance is distinct from constructed-format legality.
Where can players find the next prerelease?
The Spider-Man event is over, and the available official information does not establish that registration for it remains open. For future prereleases, check with a local game store for event listings, dates, fees, and schedules; availability varies by store. Wizards also provides a store locator on its general event information page.
