Major Diesel is an optional O.R.C. Stinkbug encounter at a pipe junction in the Statue ascent tunnels. You can skip him and still progress. If you do fight, favor Fresh or Stabbing damage, prepare for gas with a Gas Mask or Gastro Goo if available, and don’t expect a unique boss item. The nearby Dead Root is a separate obstacle: breaking it requires a Red Soldier Ant Buggy.
Where to find Major Diesel
The Statue Area sits in the elevated middle of Brookhollow Park. Its two Statue Ascent entrances—one from Grass Games and one from Ceremony—lead through a small pipe network to a junction where Major Diesel appears. The Statue Area walkthrough describes him as blocking the way, but defeating him is not required to progress.
A map listing also places Major Diesel in the Statue ascent tunnels and marks a facility behind him. Use it to orient yourself, not as proof that the fight is required.
Can you skip Major Diesel?
Yes. The route guide says the encounter is optional for progression, and other boss listings also mark him as skippable. Your choice depends on your goal:

How to prepare for the fight
Choose a supported damage type
O.R.C. Stinkbug data lists Fresh and Stabbing as weaknesses and Smashing as a resistance. Favor a weapon or attack that deals Fresh or Stabbing damage, and avoid relying on Smashing. The source does not establish a single best weapon or provide a damage calculation, so choose from the options you have available. See the O.R.C. Stinkbug entry for the listed damage interactions.
Consider gas protection
The creature entry names a Gas Mask or Gastro Goo as ways to counter its gas. Treat these as preparation options, not mandatory equipment for this specific encounter; the source does not say either is required to fight Major Diesel. It also does not establish their cost, duration, or quantified effectiveness.

Know what is not established
The encounter takes place in a pipe area, but the available location information does not establish a reliable attack list, timing, health value, arena exploit, or tested step-by-step combat tactic. Plan around the documented damage weaknesses and gas countermeasures rather than assuming a particular move pattern.
What does Major Diesel drop?
Do not expect a unique boss item: the Statue Area guide says there are no unique items for defeating him. A separate Gamer Guides database entry lists an O.R.C. Receiver and creature parts, which are ordinary O.R.C. Stinkbug drops rather than a contradiction of the no-unique-item note.

What to do about the nearby Dead Root
The Dead Root in the pipe network is a route obstacle separate from Major Diesel. Breaking it requires a Red Soldier Ant Buggy, according to the Statue Area walkthrough. That requirement does not make the boss mandatory: the buggy opens the root; killing Major Diesel is not required to progress.

The route walkthrough, map, and Gamer Guides entry call this enemy Major Diesel. The general O.R.C. Stinkbug entry uses “General Diesel” for the stronger named variant. This naming inconsistency can affect searches, but this guide uses Major Diesel for the Statue ascent encounter.

Obsidian’s August 6, 2025 Patch 0.1.2 notes mention a visual fix behind Major Diesel, not combat advice. The encounter details above therefore rely on location and creature references rather than patch-note tactics.
