What Mario Kart World is—and when it launched
Nintendo announced Mario Kart World for Switch 2 with a June 5, 2025 launch date. Nintendo describes the game as “a vast interconnected playground where the world is their racetrack.” Nintendo of America’s launch announcement and official product listing identify it as a Switch 2 game.
How much does Mario Kart World cost?
Nintendo’s U.S. listing gives the physical game a suggested retail price of $79.99. That is Nintendo’s U.S. MSRP, not a promise that every retailer currently charges that amount; retailer pricing and offers can vary. Check the Nintendo product listing for the official product and price information.
How many players can race?
Nintendo says a race can include up to 24 drivers. The product listing also gives these player limits by setup:

What modes are included?
Grand Prix
Grand Prix cups feature four races. Rather than treating each course as an isolated track, routes connect courses, and the roads between them are part of the race.

Knockout Tour
Knockout Tour is a checkpoint-based elimination mode: racers who fail to meet the checkpoint requirements are knocked out as the tour progresses.
Battle
Battle mode is also included. Nintendo lists it alongside the game’s other modes on its launch announcement.

The physical game is the direct product match for someone looking to play Mario Kart World on Switch 2. For online multiplayer, Nintendo requires an internet connection, a Nintendo Account, and Nintendo Switch Online membership. Other multiplayer arrangements may involve extra systems, game copies, or accessories.

The Joy-Con 2 Wheel is optional: Nintendo presents it as an accessory for motion-control steering, not a requirement for standard racing. A Nintendo Switch 2 Camera or compatible USB-C camera is also optional and relevant to CameraPlay or video chat. Nintendo says compatible cameras are sold separately.
