Mario Kart World returned to No. 1 in the UK physical games chart for the week ending September 20, 2025, while Trails in the Sky: 1st Chapter entered at No. 19. These are historical UK retail-chart positions, not current rankings or an all-format tally.
What topped the UK physical games chart?
Nintendo Life’s September 22, 2025 report puts Mario Kart World back in first place after it ranked second the previous week. Borderlands 4 moved down from first to second, and Donkey Kong Bananza held third. VGChartz, citing GfK data, also reports Mario Kart World at No. 1 for the UK retail chart week ending September 20.
| Rank | Game | Movement reported |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Mario Kart World | Up from No. 2 |
| 2 | Borderlands 4 | Down from No. 1 |
| 3 | Donkey Kong Bananza | Held No. 3 |
| 4 | Minecraft | Not stated |
| 5 | Mario Kart 8 Deluxe | Not stated |
The top-five positions are reported by Nintendo Life. The report does not provide prior-week positions for Minecraft or Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
Where did Trails in the Sky: 1st Chapter debut?
Trails in the Sky: 1st Chapter entered the chart at No. 19, according to Nintendo Life and VGChartz. Nintendo Life reported that the game’s chart sales were split 66% on PS5 and 34% on Switch. That is a platform share, not a unit count; neither report gives the game’s total sales.

What the chart does—and does not—show
Nintendo Life identifies Mario Kart World as a Nintendo Switch 2 launch title. In its report, writer Jim Norman said the game “hit a speed boost this week and cruised past former champion Borderlands 4 to take the top spot.” “Speed boost” is figurative wording, not an established explanation for the rank change.
The reports establish positions in the UK physical or retail chart for this particular week. They do not explain what caused Mario Kart World’s rise, provide unit totals, or establish current rankings. Cloud Dosage also lists the UK GfK top-selling games for the week ending September 20, showing the two headline entries at No. 1 and No. 19; it is a corroborating secondary report rather than the primary GfK dataset: Cloud Dosage’s chart listing.
