Mario Kart World is listed at 22.2 GB on Nintendo’s Canadian store page. That is a current regional listing, not a universal install measurement: a May 31, 2025 report recorded Nintendo’s US and Japan listings changing from 23.4 GB to 21.9 GB. The figures reflect different regions and listing snapshots.
How large is Mario Kart World?
Nintendo’s current Canadian store listing gives Mario Kart World a file size of 22.2 GB (Nintendo Canada). This is the published store value; it is not an independent measurement of a completed installation.
Why do some reports say 21.9 GB?
On May 31, 2025, Nintendo Life reported that Nintendo’s US and Japan listings had changed from 23.4 GB to 21.9 GB (Nintendo Life). That dated report describes those listings at that time. It does not make 21.9 GB the current value for every region: the Canadian page currently lists 22.2 GB.
| Listing figure | Region and status | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 22.2 GB | Current Canadian store listing | Nintendo Canada |
| 21.9 GB | US and Japan listings reported May 31, 2025, after a change from 23.4 GB | Nintendo Life |
Store-listed sizes can change over time, including with updates, so check the listing for your region when planning storage. The figures alone do not establish why the estimate changed or whether the game’s content or compression changed.

Does Mario Kart World require a microSD Express card?
No. Nintendo Support says no individual game currently requires additional storage to play. Switch 2 has 256 GB of internal storage, with some capacity reserved for system use; a card is an optional way to expand space for a larger library (Nintendo, Switch 2 announcement; Nintendo Support; Nintendo Support FAQ).
Which cards work with Switch 2?
For expanded storage, Switch 2 uses microSD Express cards, not ordinary microSD cards for software storage. Nintendo says compatible cards up to 2 TB are supported after an initial internet system update. See Nintendo’s microSD Express guidance for compatibility details.

What can expanded storage hold?
A microSD Express card can store downloaded software data, updates, downloadable content, screenshots and video captures. Game save data remains in the console’s system memory, according to Nintendo’s Switch 2 FAQ.
Does a Game-Key Card change the storage requirement?
A Game-Key Card is a key used to download a game rather than a card containing the full game data. Downloading requires an internet connection and enough free space in system memory or on a microSD Express card. This describes the format generally; it does not establish that every edition of Mario Kart World is a Game-Key Card (Nintendo Support).

What does the file size tell you?
Nintendo describes interconnected routes through varied environments and races supporting up to 24 drivers on its product page, but the listing does not explain why the game takes 22.2 GB or account for the earlier estimate change (Nintendo Canada). The size is useful for planning available storage; it is not evidence by itself of a particular design, optimization, or content change.
