To beat Glohm Pipegunk, match your attacks to its current form: use fire against ice and ice against magma. When Luigi Logic lets you control Shun’s panel, switch the arena to the element opposite Pipegunk’s form to damage and stun it. In elemental forms, its head spike makes hammer attacks the recommended standard option; use the cues below to dodge or counter its attacks.
How Pipegunk’s forms affect your strategy
Shun changes the arena, and Pipegunk shifts between normal, magma, and ice forms. The elemental form determines which special attack to use and changes the boss’s attack patterns.

- Normal: Watch for jumps, charges, and bouncing projectiles. Use jumps or counters in response to their cues.
- Magma: Use ice attacks. Pipegunk has a spike on its head in elemental forms, so the encounter guide recommends hammers for ordinary attacks.
- Ice: Use fire attacks. The same head-spike warning applies: use hammers for ordinary attacks.
The encounter guide describes the element matchups and Luigi Logic opening in its Glohm Pipegunk walkthrough. Its page was not accessible in full, so treat the attack descriptions as animation cues rather than exact timing instructions.
Use Luigi Logic to create a damage opening
During the Luigi Logic sequence, take control of Shun’s panel and change the arena to the element opposite Pipegunk’s current form. The walkthrough says this deals heavy damage and stuns the boss, giving you a chance to follow up before its cycle continues. Use fire when it is ice-covered and ice when it is in magma form.

The guide also describes Pipegunk periodically healing in magma or ice form. The elemental switch is especially useful because it interrupts that cycle and creates an opening to attack.
How to respond to each attack
Normal form
- Bounce: Pipegunk jumps and lands near the brothers, expanding on impact. A timed jump can hit it and interrupt the move.
- Charge: It leans back before rushing toward one brother. Watch for the wind-up and dodge or counter.
- Bouncing projectiles: Small projectiles bounce near the brothers and expand when they hit the ground. Jump over them.
Magma form
- Fire wave: Pipegunk moves across the brothers while spraying fire projectiles. Jump to avoid the wave.
- Fire projectile: Jump over it. A hit can leave a damaging fire pool beneath the targeted brother.
- Fire volley: Pipegunk appears behind the brothers and launches fireballs upward; they fall after a delay. Use a timed hammer counter against the volley.
Ice form
- Blizzard approach: Pipegunk advances toward one brother as the screen whitens. When it reaches the target, use a hammer to knock it back.
- Icicle wave: Pipegunk crosses in front of the brothers while firing icy projectiles. Jump to avoid them; their sizes and speeds vary.
Choose Battle Plugs for the risks you want to reduce
The encounter guide recommends Glohm Guard and Dizzy Guard for reducing the impact of Glohm and Dizzy status effects, Auto Ampberry for recovery, and Temperature Guard for fire and ice damage or status protection. These are encounter-specific recommendations from the walkthrough, not independently confirmed plug requirements.

Nintendo describes Battle Plugs as a system that can affect attack, defense, and recovery in Brothership. Pick plugs that address the problems you are having, and change them during battle if needed.
