Mario & Luigi: Brothership is a single-player, turn-based RPG for Nintendo Switch built around exploring a chain of islands and using Mario and Luigi’s teamwork to solve obstacles and fight. It launched in North America on November 7, 2024. Nintendo lists physical and digital Switch editions, and its Switch software is marked as behaving consistently on Nintendo Switch 2; that is compatibility information, not confirmation of a separate Switch 2 edition.
What kind of game is Brothership?
It is an island-hopping adventure in which exploration, puzzles, quests, and turn-based battles all depend on the brothers working together. Nintendo describes Concordia as a world once unified by the Uni-Tree. After the tree is lost, the land breaks into islands, leaving its inhabitants separated; Mario and Luigi set out to reconnect them and investigate what happened. Nintendo’s official game page describes Concordia as a land that “now lies fractured into many different islands.”

How exploration and combat work
Explore Concordia by sea
Shipshape Island serves as both the brothers’ base and their ship. From there, they sail currents to reach destinations, explore islands, take on quests, and work through obstacles. Nintendo highlights Bros. Moves as tools for overcoming exploration challenges, alongside Luigi Logic, which brings Luigi’s inventive thinking into exploration and boss encounters. Nintendo’s US product listing and its launch feature describe these mechanics.
Use timed inputs in turn-based battles
Combat is turn-based, but it is not presented as a purely hands-off exchange of commands. Bros. Attacks add action-oriented input to battles, making the brothers’ cooperation part of the combat rhythm. Nintendo also highlights Luigi Logic in boss battles; these are the mechanics Nintendo calls out, rather than a claim about a particular difficulty level or review experience.
