How to start “The Midpoint to the Endpoint”
Speak with Marisol aboard the Incognito. Neoseeker lists two prerequisites: complete her earlier companion quest, “Beginning at the Endpoint,” and the main quest “Fiends in High Places.” Space4Games describes the setup more broadly: recruit Marisol, progress until Praetor and Cloister are available, choose Cloister, and agree to accompany her. The sources differ in detail, so if the quest is not available, check that both the earlier companion quest and “Fiends in High Places” are complete. Follow Marisol’s route to the burndown controls
- Go to Reason’s Pass. Meet Marisol’s contact there to begin the route.
- Proceed to Winter’s Grasp. The quest leads to a facility containing copies of Anais Bujold’s research.
- Reach the burndown controls. Use the terminal to decide how much of the research to destroy.
- Speak with Field Agent Pham. The final conversation frames the disagreement: Pham wants some material preserved for possible recovery, while Marisol argues for destroying it all.
- Select a burn option at the terminal. The terminal control finalizes your decision.
These major waypoints and beats are corroborated by the Gamerack video walkthrough, which marks Reason’s Pass, Winter’s Grasp, the controls, Pham, and the three choices. The facility name surfaced as Unorthodox Notion Reclusion in a secondary wiki result; because that name is not needed to follow the route, use the in-game map or journal if you need to identify the location precisely.
What the three burn choices mean
The terminal offers Full Burn, Near Full Burn, and Partial Burn. They represent different amounts of destruction and preservation, with the central conflict being whether any research remains for later recovery. The available walkthrough information confirms that choices can affect Auntie’s Choice reputation, Marisol’s relationship, quest progression, and whether you have to fight to leave, but it does not reliably map each consequence to each option.

Because the sources do not establish a complete, dependable outcome table, do not treat the reported Partial Burn reward as a guaranteed result or assume a particular choice is best. Your priorities—Marisol’s approval, faction reputation, available rewards, or avoiding a fight—may point in different directions, and the exact trade-offs should be checked against the current game version and quest state.
