Marvel Rivals’ most useful lessons are less about secret tricks than about reading the team, coordinating hero pairings and checking whether advice still matches the current patch. Here are 10 practical things to keep in mind—with a clear distinction between what the official sources establish and what you should verify in your current build.
1. Pick for the lineup, not just the hero
Marvel Rivals groups heroes into three roles: Vanguard, Duelist and Strategist. Your selection is part of the team lineup, not an isolated choice. Before locking in, look at what your team is already bringing and consider which role would contribute something it lacks. NetEase’s overview describes role selection and forming a team lineup, but it does not prescribe a universal role count or composition; match context and the heroes available to your team matter. 2. Team-Ups depend on coordination
Team-Up Abilities are joint powers enabled through ally coordination. That makes a Team-Up a team decision: a pairing matters only if the eligible allies are in the lineup and can make use of the ability. The system and specific pairings can change, so check the current in-game Team-Up descriptions rather than relying on an old roster chart. NetEase’s feature overview and the Season 10 notes establish the feature but do not make every past example evergreen.
3. Destructible maps are a feature; specific interactions need checking
The game’s official feature description says maps are destructible. That is useful to know when learning a map, but it does not establish which objects can be destroyed, what triggers destruction, or what tactical result a particular interaction produces. Treat a specific claim about a wall, route or map as something to verify in that map and build—not as a universal trick. NetEase’s feature overview

4. Old hero advice can go stale after a rework
Ability descriptions and how a hero plays can change. The official Season 10 notes, published September 9, 2026, announced a Scarlet Witch gameplay rework, alongside the season’s September 11 start and Gorr the God Butcher’s arrival. If a guide describes a hero’s kit, check its date and compare it with the current in-game description. Season 10 patch notes
5. A patch can correct text, not just gameplay
Do not assume a familiar ability description is necessarily current. The October 1, 2026 patch notes record a correction to the description of Rogue’s stolen Adam Warlock ability. That is a concrete reason to trust the live description over a copied tooltip or older guide when the wording matters. October 1 patch notes

6. Patch notes can include fixes beyond hero balance
Updates may affect systems and events as well as hero kits. The same October 1 notes list a matchmaking fix for an event, illustrating why a problem that appeared in an older post may already have been addressed. When something seems broken, check the notes for the relevant update before treating an old workaround as current. October 1 patch notes
7. Use official guide sections to check the right subject
The official game guide landing page lists sections for features, FAQs, maps, heroes, Team-Ups and hero hot lists. Use the section that matches the question you have—map information for a map claim, for example, or the Team-Ups section for an eligibility question. The landing page establishes those categories, but not the detailed answers themselves. Marvel Rivals official game guide

8. Controller settings can be shared, but a specific controller is not required
NetEase’s Season 6 announcement documents controller configuration sharing as an optional settings feature. If you play with a controller, it may be useful to explore shared configurations and adjust one to your preference. The announcement does not establish that a particular controller is necessary or superior, so treat equipment choice as personal rather than a gameplay requirement. NetEase’s Season 6 announcement

Role awareness and ally coordination are broad team concepts; a particular hero ability, Team-Up effect, setting or map interaction can be version-dependent. When evaluating a tip, ask what kind of claim it is and check the matching current source:

10. Date-check guides against the latest completed update
A guide’s publication date is part of its usefulness. The latest completed official patch in the available dated sources by October 8, 2026 was the October 1 patch; Season 10 notes were published September 9. The official news index also displayed an October 9 update, which was future-dated relative to October 8 and therefore does not establish what was live on that date. For advice that depends on current mechanics, start with the latest patch notes and confirm the detail in-game. Official news index, October 1 patch notes
