Marvel Rivals’ announced plan separates gameplay from spending: heroes, maps, and other gameplay elements would be free, while paid content would be cosmetic. The Dec. 5, 2024 Dev Talk also outlined two currencies, cosmetic bundles, and free and paid Battle Pass tracks. Those are announcement-era terms, not confirmation of the game’s current prices or store offers.
Is Marvel Rivals pay to win?
In its Dec. 5, 2024 Dev Talk, the Marvel Rivals team said heroes, maps, and other gameplay elements would be free, and that paid content would change appearance rather than gameplay power. The team put it this way: “We will be charging for cosmetics that will provide only visual changes, with no stat bonuses or pay-to-win elements.” This describes the developers’ announced policy; it is not an independent audit of every later offer.
What can you buy in Marvel Rivals?
The announcement described cosmetic items sold through the in-game store, often as bundles. A standard bundle included a costume, MVP animation, emote, spray, and nameplate. Many costumes could also be purchased individually, while the full bundle was described as discounted.

How do LATTICE and UNITS work?
The announcement described two currencies:
- LATTICE was the premium currency, primarily obtained through purchase. The team also said it would be distributed through the Battle Pass.
- UNITS could be exchanged from LATTICE at a 1:1 ratio. Players could also earn limited quantities through the Battle Pass, achievements, and events.
For the U.S. Steam region, the Dec. 5, 2024 Dev Talk listed $0.99 for 100 LATTICE and $99.99 for 11,680 LATTICE. These historical platform- and region-specific figures do not establish current prices or rates in other regions.

Can you earn cosmetics or UNITS for free?
Yes, the announced plan included free routes. The free Battle Pass offered one epic-quality costume and other items, while achievements and events could provide free cosmetics. The team also said players could earn limited UNITS through the Battle Pass, achievements, and events. The announcement did not specify an ongoing earning rate or total amount.

Marvel Rivals announced a free Battle Pass and a paid Luxury Battle Pass for Season 0. The Season 0 Luxury pass was listed at 490 LATTICE and included five costumes and related cosmetics. Players would redeem rewards using Chrono Tokens earned through tasks and events. Because Season 0 was shorter, the team said its Luxury pass cost half the standard price planned for future passes and contained proportionally half the items.
In a May 13, 2025 Dev Talk, the team later said that a purchased Battle Pass does not expire and can be completed in future seasons. It also announced a limited-time return of the Season 0 pass after the May 15 update. That update establishes the team’s stated persistence policy at the time, but not present-day pass availability or pricing.
