NetEase first proposed dropping players four divisions, then reversed that plan after community feedback: players kept their ranks and scores. The transition date and new second-half reward requirements still took effect.
Was there a rank reset on February 21?
No. NetEase’s final announcement said players would retain their ranks and scores when Season 1’s second half began. The four-division reset was an earlier proposal, not the rule that took effect. The first half still ended on February 21, 2025, at 8:00 AM UTC+0.
In its February 11, 2025 announcement, NetEase said a frequent concern was “the pressure associated with having a rank reset every half-season,” which had made Competitive less enjoyable for some players. It then confirmed: “When the second half of the season begins, there will be no rank reset.” Read Dev Talk Vol. 11.
What changed between the proposal and the final decision?
| Announcement | Rank rule | What it meant |
|---|---|---|
| Dev Talk Vol. 10, February 11, 2025 | Proposed a four-division drop at the mid-season transition. | Its example was Diamond I dropping to Platinum II. |
| Dev Talk Vol. 11, February 11, 2025 | No reset; players retained their ranks and scores. | This was the final decision for the February 21 transition. |
The first announcement also outlined a proposed future cadence: a six-division drop at the start of future seasons and a four-division drop at each second half, subject to tuning. Because the follow-up reversed the immediate half-season reset, that proposal should not be treated as confirmation of later or current rules. Read Dev Talk Vol. 10.

What were the Competitive reward requirements?
Second-half rewards
For the new second-half rewards, players needed to complete at least 10 Competitive matches and meet the applicable rank conditions by the end of the season. The announced rewards included a costume for Gold rank and Crests of Honor for Grandmaster, Celestial, Eternity, and One Above All. The announcement also described One Above All in relation to the Top 500.
First-half rewards
The first-half reward announcement set a costume at Gold rank or higher, based on season high. Crests of Honor were for Grandmaster rank or higher and the Top 500. The follow-up restated the first-half thresholds as Gold, Grandmaster and above, and Top 500 / One Above All.
