When did Sanctum Sanctorum come to Marvel Rivals?
The official map announcement was published January 8, 2025, and said Sanctum Sanctorum would arrive in the first half of Season 1. NetEase had announced the season on January 7, with a January 10 start date. The announcement named Midtown as the other map planned for that first half.
The Season 1 rollout also included Central Park in its second half. The official season announcement framed the story around Doctor Strange being lost in the Entangled Astral Plane after the Timestream Entanglement, leaving Dracula and Doctor Doom to exploit his disappearance. What mode is the Sanctum Sanctorum map in?
The January 2025 patch notes classify Sanctum Sanctorum as the map for Doom Match, an arcade mode. In Doom Match, 8–12 players from hostile factions fight on a single map, earning points by knocking out enemies; the top 50% are declared victorious. These are the published mode rules, not statistics about map popularity or player behavior.

The same patch notes identify Midtown as a Convoy map, distinguishing the two first-half Season 1 additions by mode. Marvel Rivals’ Version 20250110 patch notes list the map assignments and Doom Match rules.
How did Marvel Rivals describe the Sanctum?
The game’s January 8 announcement presents Doctor Strange’s Sanctum as a refuge protected by ancient wards and powerful magic while Dracula’s dark forces consume New York. It calls the Sanctum “the last beacon of hope in a city consumed by darkness.” That is the game’s promotional story framing, rather than an independent assessment of the map.

The announcement gives Midtown a different setting emphasis: an area overrun by Dracula, with the Baxter Building and Grand Central Terminal among its landmarks. The official game site, accessed October 8, 2026, includes the Sanctum description alongside map content from later seasons. That establishes the page’s continued presence, but the reviewed official sources do not confirm the map’s current availability or queue rotation. The January 2025 patch notes establish its Season 1 mode assignment, not where players can enter it today. Marvel Rivals’ official site has since moved beyond its Season 1 content.
