Marvel’s Wolverine on PS5 includes Photo Mode during gameplay. Open it from the Pause menu, or assign a DualSense D-pad shortcut in Settings. You can tilt the camera from landscape to portrait, reposition the interface, pose and move Wolverine, alter his expression and unlocked gear, hide characters, and build scenes with as many as five independent lights. Filters are available in the Photo Mode tabs, although the official guide does not publish a complete catalog. If filters appear ineffective, enable Fullscreen Effects in Settings > Visual. For additional scenes, finish the story and use the bed in Logan’s cabin to open chapter select.
How do I open Photo Mode in Marvel’s Wolverine?
Pause the game and choose Photo Mode. That is the default access route described in PlayStation’s introductory guide. If stopping to open the pause screen interrupts an action setup, assign Photo Mode to a DualSense D-pad direction from the game’s Settings menu, then press that direction during play.

Photo Mode was announced as a day-one feature delivered with an update. If the option is missing, first confirm that the PS5 has installed the latest available game update and restart the game after the installation completes. The published feature information applies to the PS5 version.
Assigning a faster shortcut
- Open the game’s Settings.
- Find the control-remapping option for Photo Mode.
- Choose an available direction on the DualSense D-pad.
- Return to gameplay and press the selected direction to test the shortcut.
The shortcut is optional; the Pause-menu command remains available if you prefer not to change the controller layout.
#1 Best Overall

- Play as Wolverine and Ravage enemies with explosive brutality and unleash razor-sharp adamantium claws to deploy fast, fluid attacks and overcome impossible odds
- An Original, Emotionally Charged Story. Beneath Wolverine’s gruff exterior and violent temperament is a man fighting for a cause greater than himself
- A Global, Adrenaline-Fueled Journey where you slice into enemies across detailed locales such as the frosted Canadian Wilderness, the narrow streets of Tokyo, and the high and low districts of the island nation of Madripoor
What camera and composition controls are available?
Photo Mode gives you control over framing before you adjust Wolverine or the lighting. The interface can be moved so it does not sit over the part of the image you are judging.
Landscape, angled, and portrait framing
Use Tilt to rotate the framing from a conventional landscape view through angled compositions to a tall 9:16 portrait orientation. Portrait framing suits a full-body vertical pose, a close-up of Wolverine’s face, or a composition built around a tall building or light source. Landscape leaves more room for environmental details and groups of characters.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Move the Photo Mode interface
The multi-tab interface can be shifted from the left side of the screen to the right. Move it whenever the controls cover a face, a weapon, a light, or an important background detail. This changes only the working interface, not the captured image.
Pan before you leave the mode
Pan around the paused scene before closing Photo Mode. PlayStation’s guide specifically recommends checking for another angle or a foreground detail that is hidden from the first viewpoint. A small camera move can reveal signs, reflections, debris, or a second character that makes the final frame more readable.
How do I pose and customize Wolverine?
Character controls let you turn a live combat or traversal moment into a deliberate portrait. The exact choices depend on what has been unlocked in your save.
Pose, position, and rotation
Character Pose cycles through the available locked poses. Movement controls reposition Wolverine within a radius around his original location, while rotation turns him toward or away from the camera. Use movement first to establish his distance from the lens, then rotate him so the shoulders, claws, and face read clearly.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Facial expression and equipment
Facial-expression controls refine the mood after the body pose is set. You can also select from unlocked suits and claws. Because the menu only exposes options already unlocked in the game, a missing suit or claw choice is not necessarily a Photo Mode error.
Hide characters when the scene is too busy
Visibility toggles let you hide Wolverine or enemy non-player characters. Hiding one or more figures is useful for an establishing shot, a clean architectural frame, or a background-only image when combat has left unwanted bodies in the composition.

How do the Photo Mode lights work?
You can add up to five independent light sources. Each light can use a Sphere or Spotlight type and has separate controls for color, intensity, and distance.
Start with one or two lights for a portrait
For a head-and-shoulders or full-body portrait, begin with one light to establish the key direction and a second to soften the opposite side. Adjust distance before intensity: moving a light changes how quickly the illumination falls across Wolverine and the background, while intensity controls its strength at that position.
Use more lights to imitate the environment
Additional sources can recreate the colored glow of signs, street lamps, or other environmental lighting. A Sphere light is useful for a broad, soft wash; a Spotlight concentrates attention on a face, claws, or a selected part of the set. Five lights are available, but using fewer often produces a more believable result than illuminating every surface equally.
Can I slow the action for a better frame?
Yes. Assign Game Speed to another D-pad button and choose a reduction of 30%, 50%, or 70%. Slow motion gives you time to watch an attack, leap, or environmental effect settle into a useful moment before entering Photo Mode.
This setting is separate from the camera’s Tilt and the Photo Mode lighting controls. Choose the reduction before attempting the action, then use the shortcut or Pause menu once the desired movement is on screen.
Which filters and finishing controls are available?
Filters are part of the multi-tab Photo Mode interface, but PlayStation’s official guide does not provide a definitive, exhaustive catalog. A specialist secondary report identifies the following controls:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute| Control | What it changes |
|---|---|
| Filter Type | Selects the visual filter applied to the image. |
| Blend | Adjusts how strongly the selected filter mixes with the underlying image. |
| Frame Type | Adds or changes the frame treatment around the shot. |
| Backgrounds | Provides background options reported by the secondary guide. |
| Vignette Intensity and Size | Controls the darkness and spread of the edge vignette. |
| Film Grain Strength | Sets the amount of visible grain. |
| Sharpening | Adjusts edge crispness. |
Treat that inventory as a practical description rather than a promise that every item, value, or label is identical in every update. The official guide confirms the filter tab but is introductory, not a complete technical reference.
What to do when filters appear not to work
Insomniac’s support guidance says to enable Fullscreen Effects under Settings > Visual. Return to Photo Mode and test a filter again after changing the setting. The support page also says the issue is being investigated, so a later patch may alter the workaround or resolve the problem without it.

Where can I take screenshots in Marvel’s Wolverine?
Photo Mode works throughout the story, so the best location depends on the scene, lighting, and characters you want rather than on a separate Photo Mode map. PlayStation’s guide uses several examples:
- The arcade early in the “In the Shadows” chapter, where signs and machines provide a dense background.
- A casino scene for a more controlled interior composition.
- Lantern-lit moments for warm, directional illumination.
- Story locations in Canada, Shinjuku, and Madripoor.
These are examples, not an exhaustive index of every place where a screenshot can be made. A location that is ideal for one subject may be poor for another: use Shinjuku’s visual density for wide environmental frames, a casino for controlled portrait lighting, and lantern-lit scenes when you want the light itself to define the image.

How do I revisit a scene after finishing the story?
After the credits, load your save and travel to Logan’s cabin. Interact with the bed to open chapter select, then choose a chapter and return to the moment you want to stage again. This is the supported way to revisit earlier story locations for a second photographic pass; the guide does not publish a complete list of every replayable Photo Mode spot.
What is a reliable Photo Mode workflow?
Use this order when you want repeatable results instead of changing several variables at once.
- Choose the moment. Stop in a scene with the background, action, or lighting you want. If the moment is moving too quickly, set Game Speed to 30%, 50%, or 70% first.
- Open Photo Mode. Use Pause or your assigned D-pad shortcut.
- Clear the interface. Move the tabs to the side that does not cover the subject.
- Set the frame. Select landscape, an angled view, or 9:16 portrait with Tilt, then pan around for alternate angles.
- Place the subject. Choose a pose, move Wolverine within the available radius, rotate him, and refine his expression.
- Choose the version of Wolverine. Select an unlocked suit and claws, or hide Wolverine and enemies when the environment is the subject.
- Light deliberately. Start with one or two Sphere or Spotlight sources, adjust color, distance, and intensity, and add more only when the environment calls for it.
- Finish the image. Apply a filter, frame, vignette, grain, or sharpening adjustment if those controls suit the shot. Check the whole frame one last time before exiting.
What are the main limitations to keep in mind?
- The official material is an introductory guide, so it does not establish a complete filter catalog or an exhaustive list of screenshot locations.
- Suit and claw choices are limited to items unlocked in the save.
- The five-light maximum is a feature limit; it is not a recommendation to use all five in every scene.
- Filter behavior may depend on the Fullscreen Effects setting while the reported issue remains under investigation.
- The documented platform context is PS5, and the day-one update is part of the feature’s availability.
How should I choose between portrait, landscape, and environmental lighting?
Choose the aspect and lighting together. A 9:16 portrait concentrates attention on Wolverine and works well with a single key light or a tight Spotlight. Landscape framing gives the environment more visual weight, so a pair of lights or a broader Sphere source can balance the subject against the set. When the scene already has strong lanterns, signs, or casino lighting, use the Photo Mode lights to reinforce those directions rather than flattening them with equal illumination from every side.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a special controller to use Photo Mode?
No special accessory is required by the feature description. Photo Mode opens from Pause on PS5; a standard DualSense can optionally provide the D-pad shortcut described in the controls settings.

No. The detailed list comes from secondary reporting, while the official guide only confirms that filters are present. Names, groupings, or available values can change with an update.
Which story areas are specifically shown as examples for screenshots?
The guide highlights the arcade in “In the Shadows,” a casino, lantern-lit compositions, and settings including Canada, Shinjuku, and Madripoor. It presents these as examples rather than a complete location directory.
