Is the Mass Effect 5 trailer real?
Yes, the strongest public evidence indicates that it is authentic development footage, although no BioWare representative issued a direct public confirmation of the clip itself. Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier wrote, “Can confirm that this is a real trailer of the Mass Effect game that BioWare was developing up until its closure yesterday.” Game Informer also reported Schreier’s confirmation and IGN’s stated verification.
The video first appeared on Reddit on October 22, 2026, one day after EA and BioWare announced the closure. Dexerto initially described the burner account and footage as unverified. VGC later reported Schreier’s confirmation, moving the clip from an anonymous leak to authenticated material from the project.
Why the video is not proof of a finished game
An opening card in the clip reportedly says: “The following is in-engine footage from our small team. It uses our pre-production assets.” That wording matters. The sequence is a cinematic concept assembled with early assets, not a gameplay demonstration or a promise that every character, setting or plot beat would have survived development.

Was Mass Effect 5 canceled?
BioWare’s official October 21, 2026 update says, “Now, after more than three decades of shared adventures, BioWare is closing and early development on the next Mass Effect project is ending.” Because development ended before a launch plan was announced, the leaked project should be treated as an effectively canceled early-development game rather than an announced title awaiting release.

For players who want the established story rather than an unreleased concept, EA identifies Mass Effect Legendary Edition as the collection of the original trilogy. It is a finished product and does not incorporate the leaked material.

Could Liara still appear in another Mass Effect game?
