Buy Mass Effect Legendary Edition if you want Commander Shepard’s complete three-game single-player arc. It remasters Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3, includes more than 40 single-player DLC packs, and carries decisions from one game into the next. It does not include Mass Effect: Andromeda, the original Mass Effect Pinnacle Station add-on, or Mass Effect 3 multiplayer. Choose Andromeda separately for a different Pathfinder-led adventure, the original PC release only when Pinnacle Station matters, or EA Play when you want subscription access rather than permanent ownership.

Legendary Edition is a collection of the original trilogy’s single-player campaigns: Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3. EA describes the package as containing more than 40 DLC packs, including story expansions, weapons and armor. The publisher also describes more than 100 hours of gameplay; that is an EA estimate, not a completion-time guarantee for every play style.
The key benefit is continuity. Shepard’s decisions move through all three games—EA’s product description says, “Your choices seamlessly travel from one game to the next.” That makes Legendary Edition the straightforward choice for a new player who wants one connected campaign rather than three separately purchased releases.

What is not in the collection
- Pinnacle Station: the original Mass Effect add-on is absent from the remaster. Project director Mac Walters explained that corrupted source data prevented its inclusion.
- Mass Effect 3 multiplayer: Legendary Edition is a single-player package and does not contain the original multiplayer mode.
- Mass Effect: Andromeda: this is a separate game starring a Pathfinder in a different setting and is not part of the trilogy collection.
Therefore, “complete” means the remastered Shepard single-player package, not every piece of content ever released under the Mass Effect name.
Does Legendary Edition include all DLC?
No. It includes over 40 single-player DLC packs, but EA’s wording does not mean literally every historical add-on. Pinnacle Station and Mass Effect 3 multiplayer are the material exclusions.
What the included DLC covers
The collection folds the trilogy’s major story expansions, character content, weapons and armor into the remastered releases. You do not need to purchase those included items separately for Legendary Edition. The exact menu and installation behavior can differ by platform, but the DLC is part of the collection’s entitlement rather than a list of optional purchases.
How to get Pinnacle Station
EA says the original Mass Effect bought digitally through the EA app includes both Bring Down the Sky and Pinnacle Station. That is a different product route from Legendary Edition and preserves the original game rather than adding Pinnacle Station to the remaster.
EA’s classic-game guidance also treats older Mass Effect 2 add-ons—such as Arrival, Overlord, Lair of the Shadow Broker and Kasumi—as separate legacy-installation items. Follow the instructions for the exact edition you own; do not buy a second copy of DLC that is already bundled with your chosen release.
Why multiplayer is a separate question
The remaster’s scope is single-player. It is not evidence about the current operating status of the original multiplayer service, and no current server-status promise should be inferred from the collection listing.

Is Mass Effect: Andromeda included in Legendary Edition?
No. Andromeda is a separate Pathfinder adventure and must be acquired separately. It does not continue Shepard’s save decisions from the trilogy, so choose it because you want a different setting and cast, not because you expect another chapter inside the Legendary Edition package.
Standard Recruit versus Deluxe Recruit
Edition names and entitlements are storefront-specific. Steam’s Deluxe description lists the following bonus items:
- Deep Space Explorer Armor

- A multiplayer booster
- A Pathfinder outfit
- Scavenger Armor
- Pathfinder Elite Weapon Set
- A Pyjak pet
- A multiplayer launch pack
The US PlayStation Store separately describes Standard Recruit and Deluxe Recruit editions and lists Turian Soldier and Asari Adept multiplayer packs with Deluxe. Those descriptions are not a universal promise for every region, secondhand disc or redeemed code. Compare the listing for your platform and country before assuming that a bonus is included.
Deluxe upgrades are bonus gear, cosmetics and multiplayer extras, not additional trilogy story chapters. An EA community manager has also noted that a pre-order entitlement can require a separate installation even when a Deluxe edition is owned. If an advertised bonus is missing, check the platform’s add-on management screen and account entitlements before concluding that the whole edition is absent.

Yes, through backward compatibility. Legendary Edition launched as a PS4 and Xbox One game, and EA identifies forward compatibility with PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. It should be described as the PS4 or Xbox One product running on newer hardware, not as a native PS5 or Xbox Series release.
PlayStation
The PlayStation Store listing identifies Legendary Edition as a PS4 game playable on PS5. Sony notes that a PS4 game played on PS5 may not support every PS4 feature, so read the current listing for your region rather than assuming a feature-for-feature native port.

Xbox
EA identifies Xbox Series X|S forward compatibility for the Xbox One release. Compatibility is tied to the exact title and entitlement; an older Xbox 360 disc or DLC license is a separate matter.
What backward compatibility does not mean
- It does not turn the game into a new-generation native edition.
- It does not add Pinnacle Station or Mass Effect 3 multiplayer.
- It does not guarantee that every legacy Xbox 360 add-on remains purchasable or works on every console.
What does the PC version require?
The Steam edition requires an EA account and linked EA and Steam accounts. Steam and EA list 120 GB of available storage for Legendary Edition. Confirm the current storefront’s operating-system and hardware requirements before purchase, because requirements and launcher policies can change.

- Create or sign in to the EA account you intend to keep using.
- Sign in to Steam with the account that will own the game.
- Complete the EA-to-Steam account link when prompted.
- Reserve at least the listed 120 GB of available storage, not merely total drive capacity.
- Launch from the owning storefront and allow the EA app to authenticate the linked account.
If authentication loops, first verify that the same EA account is linked to Steam; creating a second EA account can attach the entitlement to the wrong profile. If storage is short, free space before installation rather than relying on a partial download.
Which Mass Effect release should you buy?
Match the release to the experience you actually want. The following decisions avoid the most common edition mistakes.
Choose Legendary Edition for Shepard’s trilogy
Buy this when you are starting the series, replaying the trilogy on modern hardware, or want the included single-player expansions in one entitlement. It is the only option here that packages all three remastered Shepard campaigns and preserves the decision chain across them.
Choose the original PC release for Pinnacle Station
Use the original digital Mass Effect through the EA app when Pinnacle Station or the original presentation is essential. EA specifically identifies that edition as including Bring Down the Sky and Pinnacle Station. This route is not a substitute for the remastered trilogy; it is a legacy-version choice.

Choose Andromeda for a separate Pathfinder story
Buy Andromeda independently if you want its Pathfinder setting and are comfortable evaluating Standard and Deluxe bonuses as platform-specific extras. Do not pay for Deluxe expecting extra Shepard chapters or missing Legendary Edition DLC.
Choose EA Play when access matters more than ownership
EA Play can provide subscription access where the game is currently in the service catalog. Subscription access can change with catalog terms or membership status, so it is different from owning a permanent digital or physical entitlement. Check the current EA and platform terms before subscribing.
What should you check before buying a physical or digital copy?
Verify the exact product, platform and region on the live listing. A disc, digital entitlement and subscription can expose different add-ons even when their names look similar.
- Product name: confirm “Legendary Edition” rather than a standalone trilogy game or Andromeda.
- Platform generation: identify PS4 or Xbox One for Legendary Edition; newer-console play is through compatibility.

Microsoft closed the Xbox 360 Store on July 29, 2024. Microsoft says previously purchased content remains accessible and that eligible backward-compatible content can still be bought through newer Xbox channels. That does not establish that every individual Mass Effect game or DLC item is still listed, downloadable or compatible on every console.
For an older Xbox purchase, check the exact title and add-on in the current Xbox storefront, then verify that the account owning the license is signed in. Do not infer availability for one DLC from the availability of another.

How do DLC and bonus entitlements install?
Installation depends on the edition and storefront. Legendary Edition’s included trilogy DLC is part of the collection, while legacy PC add-ons and Andromeda bonus packs may appear as separate items.
- Open the game’s library page on the platform where it was purchased.
- Open the add-ons, manage-content or downloadable-content section.
- Check that the expected item is listed under the purchasing account.
- Install the add-on separately if the storefront presents it as an optional download.
- Restart the game after installation and check the in-game extras or load screen.
If an item is still missing, compare the store region and account, restore licenses where the platform offers that function, and contact the platform or EA support page for the specific edition. A missing Deluxe or pre-order item is often an entitlement or separate-install problem, not proof that the base game is the wrong version.

How should a first-time player play the series?
Start with Mass Effect in Legendary Edition, continue to Mass Effect 2, and finish with Mass Effect 3. Keeping the games inside the same collection is the simplest way to preserve imported decisions and avoid tracking separate DLC purchases.
- Install or launch the first game from Legendary Edition.
- Complete the campaign and create the end-of-game save when prompted.
- Start Mass Effect 2 from the collection and import the available trilogy save.
- Repeat the process for Mass Effect 3.
- Play Andromeda afterward as a separate Pathfinder story if you want another setting.
Do not expect an Andromeda save to alter the Shepard trilogy. The continuity promised by Legendary Edition applies to its three included games.

Does an EA Play subscription keep the games if I cancel?
No. EA Play provides access under the subscription’s current catalog and terms. When membership or catalog eligibility ends, you need a separate permanent entitlement to continue playing.
Why does Steam ask for an EA account for Legendary Edition?
