What should I record before changing anything?
Write down exactly what happens after clicking Play: whether Steam opens the EA app, whether the collection launcher appears, whether only one trilogy entry fails, and the full wording of any error. Also note whether the copy is owned through Steam or managed directly in the EA app, which Windows edition you use, and whether the failure began after an update or driver change.

What should I do when the EA app is stuck on “Preparing”?
Clear the EA app’s cache before reinstalling it. In the EA app, select Help, choose App Recovery, and select Clear Cache. This targets a launcher state that is stuck while preparing; it does not substitute for the game’s file-repair command.
- Exit any game and close the EA app.
- Open the EA app again and follow Help > App Recovery > Clear Cache.
- Allow the app to restart, sign in if requested, and try the launch again.
- If the app remains stuck, close background applications that can interfere with launchers and check Windows, graphics-driver, and GPU updates.
Clearing the cache is not the same as unlinking your EA and Steam accounts. Do not unlink an account casually: the intended account and its entitlement should be confirmed first.
Why does a Steam purchase still ask for an EA account?
The Steam listing requires an EA account and linked EA and Steam accounts. For a first-time link, EA’s current instructions say to install the EA app, then sign in and check EA Account > Connected Accounts > Steam. Confirm that the address shown is the account that owns or previously activated the game.
If the handoff loops, sign out of the EA app and sign back in to the intended account, then start the game from Steam. Avoid deleting or unlinking a connection as a first response: account-link changes can create a different entitlement problem and may require account support to resolve.

- If the game now starts, keep the result as a conflict clue rather than proof that the overlay is always faulty.
- After troubleshooting, restore the setting if you need overlay features such as invites.
If disabling it changes nothing, turn it back on and continue with updates and the clean-boot procedure. Leaving features disabled permanently can hide the real cause.

Compare the machine with the published minimum before treating a launch failure as a launcher bug. These are product-listing requirements, not measured fix-success rates. A computer can meet them and still fail at account authentication, file verification, or a background-software conflict.
How do I use DxDiag for a DirectX or support error?
Run dxdiag from Windows Search and save the report. DxDiag shows the processor, memory, graphics device, driver version, and DirectX information that EA support may request.
- Open Windows Search, type
dxdiag, and launch the diagnostic tool. - Allow it to finish collecting information. Review the System and Display tabs for Windows, RAM, GPU, driver, and DirectX details.
- Use Save All Information to create a text report for a support case; avoid posting personal system details publicly.
If the EA app reports missing DirectX libraries, EA points to Microsoft’s DirectX End-User Runtime. That runtime supplies legacy files; it does not turn unsupported hardware into a DirectX 11-capable device. Close overlays and background utilities one at a time where practical. If the selected game still exits, note whether the collection launcher remains open, whether an error appears, and whether every trilogy entry behaves the same way. A single-entry failure points toward that installation’s files or configuration; all entries failing points more strongly toward the client, account, driver, or system environment.
