Mass Effect Legendary Edition did not replace the trilogy’s score with a newly composed soundtrack. BioWare said audio was remixed and enhanced across the games, but that broad statement does not establish a track-by-track music remaster. The clearest music-specific change is Resynthesis, an older unused piece that composer Sam Hulick remixed and remastered for the new trilogy launcher. The games’ in-game music, EA’s promotional download and the separate vinyl collection are different things, so a soundtrack track-list omission alone does not show that music was removed from a game.
That distinction answers most arguments about what “changed.” A player comparing the original discs with the 2021 collection is comparing both a game’s audio presentation and several separate listening products. Those products have different dates, formats, curators and purposes. A track that is absent from one album may still play during a mission or the end credits, while a cue that appears on vinyl may never have been part of EA’s digital promotion.

Did Legendary Edition remaster the original soundtracks?
BioWare’s documented claim is that audio was “remixed and enhanced across all games.” That confirms a trilogy-wide audio improvement effort, but it does not say every music cue was rerecorded, re-encoded or individually remastered. Nor does it establish that all three soundtrack albums received a separate remaster. BioWare’s April 2021 explanation of the Legendary Edition changes discusses audio as part of the collection’s broader modernization.
That distinction matters because “audio” can cover more than music: dialogue, effects and the overall sound mix are part of a game’s audio presentation too. BioWare’s statement supports saying that audio across the remastered games was enhanced; it is not enough to make claims about the treatment, quality or technical specifications of each score cue.

The original trilogy’s scores remain part of the games, but the available documentation does not provide a complete, authenticated file-by-file comparison of the old and new music assets. There is no supported basis here for claiming a particular bitrate, dynamic-range change, replacement mix or universal track-by-track remaster.
In practical terms, “remastered soundtrack” can mean at least three different things:
- A new version of the music files used by the game.
- A new mix of the whole game’s audio system, which may affect how music sits alongside dialogue and effects.
- A newly mastered listening album made from selected cues.
BioWare’s wording supports the second category in broad terms, while the documentation specifically identifies the third category only for selected releases and Resynthesis. It does not turn the Legendary Edition into a new composition project or prove that every original album was rebuilt for commercial listening.
The collection was designed as a modernization of the original games rather than a remake or reimagining. That context explains why the familiar themes and arrangements remain recognizable. If you are listening for a completely different score, a new orchestral recording or a replacement catalog, this is not that kind of release.
Is Resynthesis new to Legendary Edition?
It is new as the trilogy launcher’s released theme, but it was not necessarily composed from scratch for the 2021 collection. Sam Hulick says BioWare approached him about an older, unused piece; he owned its rights and remixed and remastered it for the launcher. Hulick’s interview about the trilogy’s music gives the specific account behind this cue.
The launcher brings the three games together, and Resynthesis plays on the screen where players choose which game to launch. Hulick described the work as breathing new life into the track. That makes it a concrete music change associated with the edition: a previously unused piece gained a new, prominent placement in the collection.

It is also the one cue for which the source material specifically documents a remix and remaster by the composer. That is not evidence that the same treatment was applied to every music file in Legendary Edition.
Calling the cue “new” therefore needs a qualifier. It is new to the public-facing Legendary Edition experience and to the associated releases that list it. It is not documented as a composition written from a blank page after BioWare began the remaster project. Hulick’s account makes the sequence clear: an older unused piece was available, BioWare asked about it, and he reworked it for this front-end role.
This also explains why Resynthesis can appear in both game-related and listening-product conversations. In the launcher it is part of the software experience. In the promotional download and the four-LP set it is a listed track. Those appearances are related, but they do not make the digital album and vinyl set identical.

How does the Legendary Edition download differ from the original albums?
EA’s promotional download was a curated digital release drawing from all three games, rather than a single original album simply republished under a new name. EA described it as 88 tracks from the trilogy plus Resynthesis, and explicitly excluded Faunts tracks from that download’s listing. EA’s community announcement is the source for that description; its track count should be read as EA’s stated listing, not an independently verified count of every available file.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteThe wording “88 tracks from the three games, plus Resynthesis” is important. It describes EA’s promotional list, not a claim that the trilogy contains only that many musical cues. Games often use variations, short stingers, looping segments and context-dependent arrangements that do not appear as standalone album tracks. A download assembled for listeners will naturally make different selection decisions from the interactive game audio.
The original releases have their own formats and histories. The first Mass Effect has a documented 2007 soundtrack CD, while EA announced digital availability for the Mass Effect 2 score on January 19, 2010. Those releases were not presented as a single trilogy-wide album. The catalog entry for the original Mass Effect soundtrack CD documents that release; EA’s 2010 announcement documents the Mass Effect 2 digital-score date.
So comparisons depend on what is being compared. An original album track list records what that album included; EA’s bonus download records a separate selection spanning three games. Neither list, by itself, is a complete inventory of the music heard during gameplay.
A collector comparing releases should record at least five details for each item:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Format: CD, digital download or vinyl.
- Release date: the 2007 and 2010 original-era announcements are distinct from the 2021 promotion.
- Scope: one game, two games or all three.
- Track-list language: whether a number is an announced count or a verified file inventory.
- Purpose: original commercial album, promotional download or curated physical compilation.
Using those fields prevents a common error: treating an album as a database dump of every sound file. It also avoids assuming that the Legendary Edition download is a remastered edition of the 2007 CD. EA described a new trilogy-spanning selection instead.
Is the trilogy vinyl the same as the Legendary Edition soundtrack?
No. SpaceLab9’s four-LP set is a separate physical release with its own selection, not a vinyl pressing of EA’s promotional download. Its manufacturer announced 85 tracks across four LPs before Legendary Edition launched, including Resynthesis and some previously unreleased in-game music. SpaceLab9’s track-list announcement documents the set’s contents and format.
The difference is useful when comparing a physical purchase with a digital track list: one is an 85-track vinyl curation, while the other is EA’s promotional digital selection. The fact that both draw on the trilogy and include Resynthesis does not make them interchangeable or establish that they contain identical selections.
The vinyl announcement predates the May 14, 2021 game launch. That timing matters because the LP set is not evidence that every track was created for, or technically altered by, Legendary Edition. It is a manufacturer’s compilation assembled around the trilogy’s music, with its own decisions about what belongs on four LPs.

“Previously unreleased in-game music” should also be read carefully. It means music that had not appeared on an earlier commercial listening release, not music newly composed for the collection. A cue can have been heard by players in an original game and still be new to an album buyer.
The BioWare Gear Store page for the Omni-Blade 4LP set was listed as out of stock in the checked information. That status is not a guarantee of future availability, and no current stock claim should be inferred for other sellers. If you shop elsewhere, verify the exact track list, seller condition and whether the listing describes the four-LP set rather than an unrelated game or soundtrack item.
Are the Faunts songs missing from the games or only the download?
The documented omission applies to EA’s bonus soundtrack download, not to the games’ credits. EA’s announcement excludes Faunts tracks from that download listing, but the available sources do not establish whether those songs play in the credits of each remastered game. A track absent from a downloadable album is not proof that it was removed from gameplay.
This is a common source of confusion because “soundtrack” can mean either music heard in the game or an album released for listening outside it. A game’s end-credit sequence is part of the in-game presentation; an album’s track list is a separate release artifact. Without a verified comparison of the game assets or credits, it is safer not to claim that a particular Faunts song was removed or retained in a specific version.
Recommended Free Tools
The safest statement is therefore narrow: Faunts tracks were excluded from the specified EA download. That tells you what to expect if you are evaluating that promotional album. It does not answer a different question about what plays during a playthrough, a credits sequence or a particular platform build.
This distinction applies beyond Faunts. Any song missing from an album may have been omitted for licensing, length, sequencing or curation reasons, but no such reason is established here. Do not infer a licensing change, a gameplay edit or a technical failure from a track-list difference alone.
Can players still get the 2021 bonus soundtrack download?
EA specified a May 5–31, 2021 window for the bonus download, subject to download capacity. That was a historical promotion, not a standing promise of free access. The date and condition appear in EA’s announcement.
A past download page returning an error would not, by itself, prove that every official route to the files is gone. But the promotion’s stated window also does not support promising that the download works today. Treat any current link as something to verify, not as guaranteed entitlement.
For physical releases, check the seller’s current listing and condition rather than assuming the manufacturer’s original announcement means stock remains available. The Omni-Blade store page was checked as out of stock, while no general inventory claim is established for SpaceLab9, retailers or resale marketplaces. Prices, pressing condition and completeness can vary substantially on secondary markets.

If your goal is simply to hear the music in context, buying the game is a different path from buying a soundtrack. EA announced the collection for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with a May 14, 2021 release date. A Mass Effect Legendary Edition PS4 or Xbox One listing is a game purchase, not a physical soundtrack and not a guarantee that it includes the promotional download.
What is the safest way to compare the music releases?
Start by identifying which listening experience or format matters to you. If the question is whether the games’ audio changed, use BioWare’s limited statement about remixing and enhancement. If you want an album to play outside the games, compare the specific album or physical release track lists instead of treating one of them as a definitive catalog of all in-game music.
- For the in-game score: distinguish BioWare’s general audio-improvement statement from a documented track-by-track music remaster. The latter is not established.
- For a digital trilogy selection: EA’s bonus download description is the relevant track-list reference; it is a promotional release, and its listed omissions should not be applied automatically to the games.
- For a physical collector’s edition: use the vinyl manufacturer’s actual track list and format. Do not assume it reproduces EA’s digital download.
- For a missing-song question: separate album availability from the game’s soundtrack and credits. An album omission alone does not answer what is heard in a specific game.

The edition itself launched May 14, 2021, according to EA’s release announcement, which listed PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. That launch date explains why the new launcher cue and promotional download are tied to the 2021 collection, but it does not make the separate albums or vinyl part of the game package.

“Remixed and enhanced” means every cue was remastered. It does not. The phrase is BioWare’s broad audio description, and no complete cue-by-cue technical comparison is established.
The 88-track download is the definitive trilogy soundtrack. It is EA’s promotional selection. Interactive game audio can include material that is not represented as an album track.
Faunts tracks were removed from Legendary Edition. The documented omission concerns the download listing. It does not establish what plays in each game’s credits.
The four-LP set is the vinyl version of EA’s download. SpaceLab9’s 85-track set has a separate curation and release history.
A listing marked “Legendary Edition soundtrack” must be official. Marketplace wording can blur the difference between the game, a digital album, original CDs and vinyl. Confirm the format, manufacturer and track list before paying.

Bottom line
Mass Effect Legendary Edition preserved the trilogy’s musical identity while presenting a modernized game audio experience. BioWare’s precise public claim is that audio was remixed and enhanced across all three games, not that every score cue was individually rerecorded or remastered. The clearest documented new music feature is Resynthesis, an older unused Sam Hulick piece remixed and remastered for the unified launcher.

Frequently Asked Questions
When did Mass Effect Legendary Edition come out, and which platforms were announced?
EA announced a May 14, 2021 release for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The release announcement is preserved in EA’s community post.
When was the Mass Effect 2 soundtrack first announced for digital availability?
Electronic Arts announced that the Mass Effect 2 digital score would be available January 19, 2010. The date is in EA’s original announcement.
Does the 88-track figure count Resynthesis?
EA phrased the listing as 88 tracks from the three games, plus Resynthesis. The number is EA’s description of its promotional download, not a separately verified count of every file or every cue in the games.
Was Resynthesis newly composed for Legendary Edition?
Not according to Sam Hulick’s account. BioWare approached him about an older unused piece; he owned its rights and remixed and remastered it for the trilogy launcher. It is new to this released placement, but not documented as a composition written from scratch for the collection.
Is the SpaceLab9 four-LP set the same as EA’s digital soundtrack download?
No. SpaceLab9 announced a separate 85-track, four-LP curation that includes Resynthesis and some previously unreleased-in-album-form in-game music. EA’s download was a different digital selection described as 88 trilogy tracks plus Resynthesis.
Were Faunts songs removed from the Legendary Edition games?
The documented omission applies to EA’s bonus download. The available documentation does not establish whether those songs play in every remastered game’s credits, so an album omission should not be treated as proof of gameplay removal.
Does BioWare confirm a track-by-track remaster of the scores?
No. BioWare said audio was remixed and enhanced across all games, but that statement does not document universal rerecording, re-encoding, replacement mixes or individual remastering for every music cue.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCan I still claim the 2021 free download?
EA specified a May 5–31, 2021 promotional window subject to download capacity. That historical window does not guarantee present-day access, so verify any current official route rather than assuming the files remain available.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Legendary Edition modernized the trilogy’s audio rather than replacing its score. Resynthesis is the clearest documented new release cue, while EA’s download and SpaceLab9’s 4LP set are separate curated soundtrack products. Do not use their track lists to infer exactly what was removed from or remastered in gameplay.
