Masters of Albion is available now on Steam for Windows PC, but it is still an evolving Early Access game—not a finished release. Peter Molyneux revealed it at Gamescom in 2024; since its April 22, 2026 launch, 22cans has continued revising its systems, most recently in the New Beginnings update reported on October 1, 2026.
What is Masters of Albion?
Masters of Albion is a god game that blends settlement building and management with exploration, direct control of characters, and nighttime defense. The official Steam listing describes a day-and-night loop: build, guide, and defend a town by day, then survive the night. Players can also possess villagers and explore on foot, while structures and heroes help protect settlements, according to Game Informer’s January 2026 overview.
Molyneux revealed the project at Gamescom 2024. At the time, GamesBeat reported that his studio, 22cans, was self-funded by Molyneux and had a team of 20 industry veterans; VGC also reported involvement from former Fable developers and Mark Healey, the former head of Media Molecule. Is Masters of Albion out, and what is its Early Access scope?
Yes. Masters of Albion launched on Steam for PC on April 22, 2026. The store lists 22cans as both developer and publisher and labels the game Early Access. The developer says the current version contains the complete Chapter One experience, while combat, balance, quests, progression, the user interface, and other systems are still planned for refinement. Its estimate is roughly 12 months in Early Access, but the developer cautions that the timing may change; that estimate is a plan, not a confirmed full-release date. Steam.

That distinction matters when deciding whether to play now. The available version has a defined first-chapter scope, but its systems and balance are still subject to change. If you want a settled, finished experience, the Early Access label and stated development plans are material caveats; if you are comfortable with an evolving game, the current version is already available.
What changed in the New Beginnings update?
In its October 1, 2026 report, PC Gamer described the New Beginnings update as a substantial overhaul of several parts of the Early Access game. Reported changes include:
- Revised nighttime defense and unlockable buffs.
- A card-based Arcadium.
- Narrative context for product orders.
- A redesigned design table and a changed opening.
- Corruption that spreads across the landscape.
- More interactive actions for the god-like hand.
PC Gamer’s writer gave the update a favorable personal assessment while noting that the game remains unfinished. That is the reviewer’s evaluation, not a guarantee that every player will respond the same way. PC Gamer, October 1, 2026.

What has Molyneux said about the project?
At the 2024 reveal, Molyneux described a return to PC and console after his work on mobile games: “After messing around on mobile – what the hell was I doing? – I thought to myself, I need to come home to PC and console,” VGC reported. In an interview quoted by Game Informer in January 2026, he also acknowledged earlier overpromising about Curiosity: “I admit now that I did overpromise on things, and said things that I shouldn’t have said about Curiosity.” VGC; Game Informer.
PC Gamer also quoted Molyneux saying the game averaged between 60 and 80 frames per second at recommended specifications, compared with his stated goal of 30 frames per second for everyone meeting those specifications. This is his claim, not an independently reproduced benchmark; actual performance can vary by PC. PC Gamer.
