SonixLegend became the first person reported to reach Steam’s 40,000+ Game Collector badge in September 2025. That milestone counts badge-eligible paid games—not necessarily every game linked to the account, or games the owner has played. A later report put the collection at 43,085 games in April 2026, a dated snapshot rather than a verified live total.
Who reached Steam’s 40,000-game milestone?
The account belongs to SonixLegend, also known as Sonix, who is based in Shanghai, according to Ars Technica’s September 24, 2025 report. Ars cited Steam badge data and said SonixLegend reached the threshold in the week before publication.

The milestone was earning Steam’s 40,000+ Game Collector badge. Ars reported that 19 Steam users had at least 30,000 paid games at the time. That is a September 2025 count, not a current leaderboard total.
What does the 40,000+ Game Collector badge count?
The badge is a platform-defined count of eligible games, not a guaranteed inventory of every title associated with an account. Ars says games that do not meet Valve’s profile-features guidelines are excluded. Those guidelines refer to titles reaching “broad player engagement and some commercial success”; almost all free-to-play games are also excluded, according to the report.

Coverage does not provide a precise formula for eligibility, so the badge figure should be understood as a count under Steam’s rules rather than a universal count of every game on the account.
How many games does SonixLegend’s Steam library have now?
The most recent figure in the reporting cited here is 43,085 games. Tom’s Hardware reported that SteamDB listed this total on April 24, 2026, and said three Steam users had passed 40,000 games by then. It is a dated snapshot; it does not establish SonixLegend’s live total today.

What was the collection estimated to be worth?
In its September 2025 story, Ars reported SteamDB estimates of about $248,000 at the lowest prices SteamDB tracked and about $642,000 at prices current at the time. These are modeled account-value estimates, not an audited record of what SonixLegend paid. They also do not represent resale value.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does owning 40,000 games mean they have been played?
No. Ownership and playtime are different measures. Ars said the account was private and reported that 261 games had at least one achievement and 16 had a user review at the time. Those observations do not establish how much SonixLegend played the rest of the collection, and they are specific to Ars’s September 2025 account snapshot.

Ars senior gaming editor Kyle Orland described the gap between the badge count and the broader account this way: “SonixLegend’s full collection might be more extensive than this massive achievement suggests.” That is Orland’s framing of the badge’s limits, not a measured total beyond Steam’s count.
