What this file actually does
memulib.dll is an application DLL used by MEmu, also known as MEmu Play. Windows loads it when MEmu starts or when one of its emulator components requests its functions.

Public file catalogues identify the file as MEmuLib.dll. One catalogue entry describes a 32-bit build with version 5.6.2.0 and a size of approximately 1.2 MB, but that is third-party metadata, not an authoritative current Microvirt manifest. Do not use those details to select a replacement file. MEmu releases can require matching files, dependencies, and architecture.

Typical messages include:
- “The program can’t start because memulib.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because memulib.dll was not found.”
- “There was a problem starting memulib.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “Error loading memulib.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “The procedure entry point … could not be located in the dynamic link library memulib.dll.”
- “memulib.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
“The specified module could not be found” does not always mean the named DLL itself is absent. Windows may have found memulib.dll but failed to load a dependency that it requires.

Fix 1: Check antivirus quarantine first
Security software can quarantine an application DLL during installation or after an update. A quarantine event does not prove that the file is safe, so verify that MEmu came from the official MEmu website before restoring anything.
Windows Security
- Close MEmu.
- Open Start, type Windows Security, and open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
memulib.dll, MEmu, or Microvirt. - Open the event and review its path and detection details.
- Restore the file only if it is clearly inside your verified MEmu installation and the installer came from the official MEmu website.
- If the file is restored, start MEmu.
Do not restore a DLL merely because its filename matches. If Windows Security repeatedly removes it, leave the file quarantined, confirm the installer’s authenticity, and contact MEmu support. Add an antivirus exception only after that review. The exception should target the verified MEmu installation folder, not a broad Windows directory.
If no quarantine event exists, continue with a repair or reinstall. Do not assume antivirus caused the problem.
Fix 2: Back up MEmu data before reinstalling
MEmu stores Android virtual machines and their data separately from the installer. Uninstalling or reinstalling can affect those instances, so back up anything important first.
Before changing MEmu:
- Open MEmu if it still starts.
- Use MEmu’s instance or backup features to export important virtual machines where available.
- Record the names of important instances.
- Back up files from the MEmu data location if you know where your installation stores them.
- Copy important Android data to another location where possible.
- Close MEmu and verify in Task Manager that its processes are no longer running.
If MEmu cannot open, do not delete its data folders while trying random repairs. Preserve them and reinstall only after checking whether the uninstaller offers an option to keep user data.

Fix 3: Reinstall MEmu from the official installer
This is the most reliable repair for a genuinely missing or corrupted memulib.dll.

Try the online installer first
Use the online installer when your internet connection is stable and the normal installation previously downloaded files successfully.
- Download the current MEmu installer from the official MEmu website.
- Right-click the downloaded installer.
- Select Properties and confirm that Windows identifies it as a file downloaded from the expected source. If an Unblock option appears, review it before proceeding.
- Close the Properties window.
- Right-click the installer again.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Follow the setup screens.
- Restart Windows if the installer requests it.
- Start MEmu and test the affected instance.
If the online installer fails partway through, repeatedly reports missing installation files, or produces a network-related error, stop using it and choose the offline installer instead.
Use the offline installer when downloads fail
An offline installer contains more of the installation package locally, so it avoids some download and connection failures.
- Return to the official MEmu download page.
- Select the offline installer if one is available for the current release.
- Save it to a local folder such as Downloads.
- Temporarily close other installers and MEmu processes.
- Right-click the offline installer and choose Run as administrator.
- If a previous MEmu installation is incomplete, uninstall it first through Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the offline installer as administrator again.
- Preserve user data if the setup program offers that choice.
- Launch MEmu and test a new instance before opening an important existing instance.
If the new instance works but an old instance does not, the DLL installation is probably repaired and the remaining problem is likely instance or image corruption. Keep the original data, then use MEmu’s documented instance recovery or create a replacement instance.

Why standalone DLL downloads are unsafe
Do not download memulib.dll from a random DLL website and copy it into a Windows folder. That approach can provide malware, an altered file, the wrong MEmu release, or the wrong 32-bit or 64-bit architecture. It also leaves the rest of the incomplete MEmu installation unrepaired.
A DLL must normally match the executable that loads it. An older file may lack functions expected by a newer MEmu executable, while a file built for a different architecture may fail immediately. The official MEmu installer is the safe source because it restores the application’s related files together.
Why regsvr32 is usually not the fix
Do not run this as a default repair:
regsvr32 memulib.dll
regsvr32 is a registration tool for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a general-purpose command for making any missing DLL load. An application library such as memulib.dll may not support registration at all.

Fix 4: Repair a missing Microsoft dependency
If the error names another file, address that file specifically. Examples include VCRUNTIME140.dll and MSVCP140.dll.
- Write down the exact DLL named in the dialog.
- If it is a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime file, download the supported Visual C++ Redistributable package from Microsoft.
- Select the package appropriate for the application and Windows architecture.
- Run the installer.
- Choose Repair if offered. Otherwise, complete the installation.
- Restart Windows.
- Start MEmu again.
Do not infer that memulib.dll itself comes from Visual C++. The named dependency and the MEmu DLL are separate components.

Fix 5: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Use Windows repair commands when other Windows applications also show corruption, system files fail validation, or the problem began after broader Windows damage. They normally will not recreate a third-party MEmu DLL.

- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve User Account Control.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test MEmu.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If SFC reports that it repaired files, test MEmu again. If it reports that some files could not be repaired, review the result and return to the official MEmu reinstall path rather than expecting SFC to supply memulib.dll.

Graphics drivers, virtualization settings, Hyper-V conflicts, and damaged emulator images can cause MEmu to hang, show a blank window, or stop during startup. They do not explain a genuinely missing memulib.dll.
Use these checks when MEmu starts loading but fails at a percentage, crashes after the window opens, or displays rendering errors.

- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics adapter.
- Select Properties and inspect the General and Driver tabs.
- If Windows reports a device problem, select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows after any update.
- Test MEmu again.
For a clean vendor driver, use the graphics manufacturer’s official support channel. Avoid treating a graphics-driver update as a replacement for a missing application DLL.
Manually identifying the correct graphics, chipset, and virtualization drivers can mean checking hardware IDs and comparing versions one by one. Check Windows virtualization features
Do not change virtualization settings solely because memulib.dll is missing. Check them when MEmu’s startup behavior points to an emulator configuration problem.

- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
optionalfeatures. - Press Enter.
- Review features such as Hyper-V, Virtual Machine Platform, and Windows Hypervisor Platform.
- Follow the current MEmu support guidance for your installed MEmu release.
- Change only the features relevant to the documented conflict.
- Click OK and restart Windows if prompted.
The correct configuration depends on the MEmu version and the other virtualization software installed. Do not disable security or virtualization features indiscriminately.
Fix 7: Inspect MEmu installation logs
If reinstalling fails, collect evidence before trying another DLL.
MEmu documents an installation log location:
C:Users<username>AppDataLocalMicrovirtsetup
To inspect it:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Paste
%LOCALAPPDATA%Microvirtsetup. - Press Enter.
- Copy the relevant log files to another folder.
- Keep the exact installer error dialog.
- If MEmu opens, use System info > Create Report where that option is available.
Also record:
- Your Windows edition and build
- The MEmu version
- Whether you used the online or offline installer
- Antivirus detections and quarantine history
- The complete error text
- Whether a new MEmu instance starts
- Whether the error names another DLL
Send this information through the official MEmu support channel if the error returns after a clean reinstall.
FAQ
Is memulib.dll a Windows file?
No. It is associated with MEmu, Microvirt’s Windows Android emulator. Do not place it in System32 or SysWOW64.
Should I download the DLL separately?
No. Obtain MEmu from its official website and reinstall the matching application. A standalone file can be malicious, mismatched, or incomplete.

Is the file 32-bit or 64-bit?
Public catalogue data describes one 32-bit entry, but that does not establish the architecture of every MEmu release. Use the DLL delivered with the matching MEmu installer instead of mixing files.
Why does reinstalling not help?
The antivirus may be removing the file again, the installer may be incomplete, a dependency may be missing, or the failure may actually involve graphics, virtualization, or a corrupted emulator instance. Check quarantine, use the offline installer, inspect the setup log, and compare the exact dialog text.
Will System Restore fix it?
System Restore is a fallback for a recent system-wide change, not the first repair for a third-party application DLL. It may remove applications or drivers installed after the selected restore point.
What should I do if MEmu still fails?
Stop replacing DLLs. Preserve your emulator data, collect the MEmu version, Windows build, exact dialog, antivirus history, setup log, and diagnostic report, then provide them to MEmu support.
