Metroid Prime Remastered is a strong choice if you want a first-person adventure built around exploration, discovery and atmosphere. It updates the Nintendo GameCube original for Switch with HD visuals, enhanced sound and several control options, but it retains the older adventure’s core style. That makes it an appealing return for longtime fans and a viable entry point for newcomers—provided that methodical exploration is what you want from a game.

What do reviews say?
Critics have received the remaster very positively. Metacritic’s critic page showed a 94 Metascore, with 95 positive reviews out of 95 listed, when accessed in 2026; it labeled the reception “Universal Acclaim.” This is a dated snapshot of a changing aggregator score, not a permanent rating or a measure of whether the game suits every player. The choice is useful both for returning players with established preferences and newcomers deciding how they want to play.
Core adventure
The remaster brings the original Metroid Prime to Switch; it should not be mistaken for a full remake. Its main appeal remains the first-person exploration and older adventure design, rather than a wholly reimagined game.

Is it a good fit for longtime fans and newcomers?
For returning players
Fans of the original can revisit its first-person adventure with updated presentation and multiple control choices. The classic-inspired options may feel familiar, while dual-analog controls provide another way to approach the game. Whether those changes are enough to make another visit worthwhile depends on how much you want to return to the original adventure.
For newcomers
The remaster is a reasonable way to try Metroid Prime on Switch, and the control options make it possible to choose a familiar or more contemporary setup. Its broad critical acclaim is encouraging, but it does not guarantee a fit: newcomers who enjoy exploring a game world at a deliberate pace are more likely to connect with it than players looking primarily for a different style of experience.

Should you buy Metroid Prime Remastered?
Consider it if you want a first-person adventure centered on exploration and are open to the design of an older game. If you are unsure, the key question is whether that style sounds appealing—not whether a high aggregate score makes it an automatic purchase. Current price, stock and edition availability depend on your territory and retailer, so check those details before buying.
Nintendo Spain announced that the digital version was available on Nintendo eShop and that the physical version would be available from March 3, 2023, in that regional context. That date should not be treated as a release date for every territory. Nintendo Spain’s announcement provides the region-specific details.
