If Microsoft Teams will not load, keeps spinning, or repeatedly says it is reconnecting, start at https://teams.microsoft.com in a current supported desktop browser. The fastest reliable sequence is to verify browser support and cookie policy, test another website, sign out and back in, check ad-blocker and VPN interference, and look at Microsoft service health. If only a Website tab fails, treat that as an embedding or access-policy problem rather than a failure of the entire Teams web app.
Use the sections below in order. They separate browser, network, account, policy, service, and embedded-tab failures so you do not erase useful local data or change settings that cannot fix the actual cause.

A Teams web failure usually belongs to one of five scopes: an unsupported browser or environment, a blocked cookie or enterprise policy, a network or session problem, a Microsoft service incident, or a single embedded Website tab that the destination refuses to display. Identifying the scope first determines whether you should change a browser setting, reauthenticate, involve an administrator, switch clients, or wait for service restoration.
- Entire app affected: the home screen, chats, teams, and settings never finish loading. Check browser support, cookies, network, sign-in, and service health.
- Only one Website tab affected: the Teams shell may work while the embedded site stays blank or loops. The destination may block embedding, or Conditional Access may deny the request.
- Only one device or browser affected: suspect local cookies, extensions, VPN routing, or a stale session.
- Many users affected at once: check the public Microsoft service-health page and, for business or enterprise tenants, the Microsoft 365 admin center.
Do not begin by deleting every Teams cache. Microsoft warns that cache clearing is not a general remedy for missing chats, channels, notifications, or unread counts, and it can remove diagnostic logs and other local data.

Is my browser and environment supported for Teams on the web?
Teams for the web supports the latest three versions of Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox, plus the latest two versions of Safari on macOS. Mobile browsers and virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) are outside the supported Teams for Web experience.
| Environment | Support position | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Edge, Chrome, or Firefox | Latest three versions | Update the browser, then reopen the Teams web address. |
| Safari on macOS | Latest two versions | Install the current macOS browser update available to you. |
| Mobile browser | Not supported for Teams for the web | Use the Teams mobile app instead. |
| VDI environment | Not supported; performance and reliability may be negatively impacted | Use a supported local desktop browser or an approved Teams client. |
| Internet Explorer 11 | Not supported | Move to a current supported browser. |
Browser version matters even when a page worked yesterday: support is defined by the current version window, not by whether an older browser can technically display the sign-in screen. If you are troubleshooting on a managed computer, record the browser name and exact version before asking an administrator to change policy.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

Use Microsoft’s official web address, https://teams.microsoft.com, rather than an old bookmark or a link copied from a previous session. Teams on the web requires an eligible Microsoft 365 account; an account that cannot use the service will not be repaired by refreshing the page.
- Close duplicate Teams tabs so an expired session is not competing with a new one.
- Open a fresh tab and enter https://teams.microsoft.com directly.
- Sign in with the Microsoft 365 account your organization has enabled for Teams.
- If the page returns to sign-in or remains on “reconnecting,” sign out completely, close the browser tab, reopen the address, and sign in again.
A repeated sign-in loop points more strongly to session state, cookie policy, or an access rule than to a missing Teams feature. Keep the account and browser context consistent while testing so you can tell whether the change helped.

Can blocked cookies or browser policy stop Teams from loading?
Yes. Microsoft states that the browser must allow third-party cookies for some third-party or line-of-business applications to function properly. A restrictive privacy setting, enterprise browser baseline, or Trusted Sites policy can therefore leave Teams spinning or prevent authentication from completing.
Check the browser’s cookie setting
Review the privacy or cookie controls for the browser you are using and ensure third-party cookies are allowed when your organization requires them. If a company policy controls that setting, an end user may be unable to change it; ask the administrator to confirm the policy rather than repeatedly clearing cookies.
Confirm the Microsoft allowlist
Microsoft’s Teams loading guidance lists these domains for allowlist or Trusted Sites configuration when policy is blocking required traffic:
microsoft.comcloud.microsoftmicrosoftonline.comteams.skype.comteams.microsoft.comsfbassets.comskypeforbusiness.com
Do not add broad exceptions on a personal guess. Have the administrator compare the browser’s managed policy with this list and with the organization’s security requirements. A change may require restarting the browser before the new rule is applied.

What network and session checks reconnect Teams fastest?
Microsoft’s practical reconnect sequence is short and low risk. Perform each check before making a deeper local change.
- Open another website. If unrelated sites also fail, resolve the connection, DNS, proxy, or firewall issue first. If other sites work, continue with Teams-specific checks.
- Sign out and sign back in. This refreshes the authentication session without deleting local Teams data.
- Temporarily disable an ad blocker. An extension can interfere with scripts or sign-in flows. Disable it only for the test, reload Teams, and restore it afterward if it is not the cause.
- Toggle the VPN. If a VPN is active, turn it off and retry; if the connection works only with the VPN enabled, turn it back on and report that difference to the network administrator. The contrast helps identify routing or policy interference.
Test one variable at a time. For example, do not disable an ad blocker and change cookie policy in the same reload, because you will not know which change resolved the loop.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Could a Microsoft service incident be the reason Teams will not load?
A sudden failure affecting several people or locations may be a service incident rather than a local browser fault. Check Microsoft’s public service-health page before spending time on local repairs. Service status is volatile, so a page that reported all products operational at one moment does not guarantee that Teams is healthy when you check.
Business and enterprise customers should also consult the Microsoft 365 admin center, which provides tenant-specific detail that a public status page cannot show. Note the time of the check and whether colleagues in the same tenant see the same symptom. If the service is degraded, repeated cache deletion or reinstalling a browser will not restore it; monitor the status and follow the administrator’s incident updates.

Why does a Teams Website tab fail while the rest of Teams works?
An embedded Website tab is a separate failure path. The destination can block being displayed inside another site, or your organization’s Conditional Access rules can prevent the embedded request. In either case, the Teams shell may continue working normally.
Use the documented workarounds
- Select Reload tab once to rule out a transient tab error.
- Choose Open in browser to load the destination in a normal browser tab, outside the Teams frame.
- If available, choose Open in desktop app to use the corresponding application.
- For SharePoint content, use the corresponding SharePoint Pages app when that is the appropriate destination.
If the site works in a normal browser tab but not inside Teams, that difference is evidence of an embedding restriction or Conditional Access rule, not proof that the entire Teams account is broken. The site owner or tenant administrator may need to change the policy; a user-side refresh cannot override it.
When should I clear Teams cache or reset local data?
Cache work is targeted, not a default response to every loading symptom. Microsoft cautions that clearing cache can delete diagnostic logs and local data, and it does not generally restore missing chats, channels, notifications, or unread counts.
Use a reset or cache deletion only when the failure points to selected local-client state and you have already checked browser support, cookies, network, sign-in, and service health. Follow Microsoft’s documented reset or deletion locations for the specific Teams client you are repairing, then restart Teams and sign in again. Do not improvise folders or delete data while an incident is active, because that can remove evidence your administrator needs.

What should I do if Teams web still will not load?
Use the symptom and scope to choose the next owner rather than repeating the same refresh.
| Observed result | Most useful next action | Likely owner |
|---|---|---|
| Unsupported browser, mobile browser, or VDI | Move to a supported current desktop browser or the mobile app. | User or device administrator |
| Other sites fail too | Investigate the local connection, proxy, firewall, or VPN path. | Network administrator |
| Sign-in loops after cookies are restricted | Review third-party-cookie and Trusted Sites policy. | Browser or identity administrator |
| Only a Website tab fails | Reload, open in browser, or use the desktop app; check Conditional Access. | Site or tenant administrator |
| Many users fail simultaneously | Check public service health and the Microsoft 365 admin center. | Microsoft or tenant administrator |
| One local client has a selected state problem | Perform the documented targeted reset, then restart. | User or support technician |
Microsoft provides desktop, web, and mobile clients. If the web route remains unavailable, use the desktop client on a supported computer or the mobile app on a phone or tablet; mobile users should not substitute a mobile browser for the unsupported web experience. When escalating, include the exact browser and version, whether the whole app or one tab fails, whether another website loads, the result of sign-out/sign-in, VPN and ad-blocker status, and the service-health result. That information lets an administrator distinguish policy, account, network, and service causes without asking you to repeat every test.

There is no published failure-rate statistic that can predict how often Teams web loading problems occur. The reliable guidance is procedural: use a supported environment, permit the cookies and domains required by your organization’s policy, refresh the session, test the network path, check service health, and isolate embedded tabs from the main app. Those checks cover the documented causes without claiming that one remedy fixes every incident.
Frequently Asked Questions
What details should I send my IT administrator when Teams web fails?
Report the browser name and version, device environment, exact Teams address used, and whether the entire app or only one Website tab is affected. Include whether another site opened, whether sign-out/sign-in changed anything, your VPN and ad-blocker state, and the time you checked service health.
Why can Teams work in one browser but not another on the same computer?
Different browsers can have different third-party-cookie settings, extension rules, and managed Trusted Sites policies. Compare those controls and the browser versions before assuming that the Microsoft 365 account or network is defective.
Should I keep retrying while Microsoft service health shows an incident?
No. Record the incident status and time, then follow the Microsoft 365 admin center or tenant communications. Repeated cache deletion or policy changes can remove diagnostic information without shortening the outage.
Recommended Free Tools
Can a Website tab be repaired without changing the Teams web app?
Often, yes. Reload the tab, open the destination in a normal browser tab, or use its desktop app; if it works outside Teams, the remaining issue is likely embedding protection or Conditional Access applied to the tab.
