microsoft-windows-battery-events.dll is a genuine Microsoft Windows system resource, not a normal application runtime. If Windows says it is missing, not found, corrupted, or could not be loaded, repair Windows first instead of downloading a replacement DLL.
The usual location is:
%windir%System32microsoft-windows-battery-events.dll
Public file records describe it as Microsoft-Windows-Battery-Events Resources, part of Microsoft Windows Operating System and published by Microsoft Corporation. It is normally a resource-only component, so registering it with regsvr32 is not an appropriate repair.

The exact version, size, and architecture are not universal. A copy from another Windows release may have the same filename but still be incompatible with the installed build.
Fix 1: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
This is the highest-confidence fix for this filename because it belongs to Windows itself.
#1 Best Overall
- 1. COMPATIBLE WITH WINDOWS 11, 10, 8.1 & 7 Designed for compatible 64-bit PCs and laptops that support USB booting. Works with Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 installation and recovery options.

- 3. READY-TO-USE BOOTABLE USB Reusable installation and recovery media that helps eliminate the need to download large system files or create bootable media yourself. Insert the USB drive, open the computer’s boot menu and select the appropriate installation or recovery option.
- 4. HELP KEEP OLDER PCS USEFUL Refresh, reinstall or maintain a compatible older computer before deciding whether replacement is necessary. Suitable for home computers, office workstations, PC enthusiasts and technicians who regularly work with supported systems.
- 5. IMPORTANT COMPATIBILITY & LICENSE INFORMATION Supports compatible 64-bit computers with UEFI or Legacy BIOS USB booting. No Windows license, activation key or product key is included. Activation may require an existing digital license or a separately purchased valid product key. Back up important files before installation or repair.
Run DISM
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes if User Account Control asks for permission.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the operation to finish. Do not close the window while it is working.
DISM repairs the Windows component store, which provides the source files used by System File Checker.
Run SFC
After DISM completes, run:
sfc /scannow
Wait until verification reaches 100 percent, then restart Windows.
Interpret the result
- Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations: SFC found no damaged protected files. Continue with the checks below if the error remains.
- Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them: Restart and launch the affected program again.
- Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them: Run DISM again, restart, and repeat SFC. If the same result persists, inspect the CBS log or move to a Windows repair installation.
If Windows Update cannot provide the repair files, Microsoft documents using a matching Windows installation source:
Recommended Free Tools
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:C:RepairSourceWindows /LimitAccess
The source must match the installed Windows edition and version. Do not substitute a random Windows folder.
Running these commands manually is reliable, but repeated repair attempts can make it difficult to see what changed. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for the underlying Windows repair issues; its free scan identifies problems, while repair features are handled by the full version. It is optional, and DISM followed by SFC remains the supported Windows method.
Fix 2: Install pending Windows updates
An incomplete or failed update can leave a protected component missing or inconsistent.
Windows 11
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Click Check for updates.
- Install everything offered.
- Restart, even if Windows does not immediately require it.
- Run DISM and SFC again using the commands above.
On supported Windows 11 installations, you may also see a repair reinstall option:

- Select System > Recovery.
- Find Fix problems using Windows Update.
- Select Reinstall now.
- Follow the prompts.
This reinstalls the current Windows version while preserving applications, files, and settings.
Windows 10
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Update & Security > Windows Update.
- Click Check for updates.
- Install pending updates and restart.
- Run DISM and SFC again.
If the error began immediately after an update, note the update timing before removing anything. A repair reinstall is generally safer than manually replacing a system DLL.
Fix 3: Check the file path and Microsoft signature
A file with this name is not automatically trustworthy just because the filename looks correct.
- Press Windows key + E to open File Explorer.
- Click the address bar.
- Enter:
%windir%System32
- Find
microsoft-windows-battery-events.dll. - Right-click it and select Properties.
- Check the Digital Signatures tab.
- Select the signature and click Details.
A genuine system copy should normally be under the Windows directory and carry a Microsoft Windows signature. A copy in Downloads, Temp, a user profile, or an unrelated application folder deserves investigation.

A valid Microsoft signature does not prove that the file matches your installed Windows build. Location, signature, and Windows servicing results all matter.
Fix 4: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software may have quarantined a legitimate file, or it may have correctly removed a malicious copy.
Windows Security
- Open Start.
- Type Windows Security and open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Click Protection history.
- Review detections involving the DLL or its original path.
- Expand the detection to see the filename, location, and detection name.
Restore or allow the file only when all of these are true:
- The original path was inside
%windir%. - The file has a valid Microsoft signature.
- The detection is demonstrably a false positive.
- A current security scan does not find related malware.
If the file was located in an application folder, Downloads, Temp, or a user directory, do not restore it merely because the filename matches. Run a full or offline Microsoft Defender scan, then repair Windows with DISM and SFC.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Fix 5: Repair the application that reports the error
No verified application, game, launcher, or installer is known to require this exact DLL in a reproducible way. If only one program reports the error, that program may be incorrectly bundling or requesting a Windows resource.
Try the application’s own repair option first:
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Apps > Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps on Windows 10.
- Find the affected application.
- Select its menu or entry.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- Test the application.
- If it still fails, select Reset only after confirming the app’s data is backed up.
For a traditional desktop program:
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs > Programs and Features.
- Right-click the affected program.
- Choose Repair or Change, if offered.
- Otherwise uninstall it.
- Restart Windows.
- Download the installer from the application’s official developer or launcher.
- Install it again.
Do not place a downloaded copy of this DLL beside the program executable. If the application is requesting a Windows resource incorrectly, replacing files in its folder can hide the real problem rather than fix it.
Fix 6: Check drivers only for related hardware symptoms
The word “battery” in the filename does not prove that the file comes from a laptop manufacturer’s battery driver. No verified evidence shows that a battery driver package supplies this Windows component.

If you also have battery, AC adapter, sleep, charging, or power-management problems, inspect the relevant devices:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Batteries.
- Right-click Microsoft AC Adapter and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Repeat for Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery.
- Restart Windows.
You can also check System devices for manufacturer-specific power-management entries. Use the laptop manufacturer’s official support page for model-specific BIOS and chipset packages. Do not remove battery devices solely to fix this DLL error unless Device Manager shows a separate hardware problem.
Finding the correct chipset, BIOS, and power-management versions by hand can be time-consuming, especially after a clean Windows installation. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers; its free scan shows what it finds, while driver installation features are handled by the full version. It is optional, and a driver update is not the definitive fix for a missing Windows resource.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Check 32-bit and 64-bit paths
On 64-bit Windows:
System32normally contains native 64-bit system files.SysWOW64is the redirected system location used by 32-bit programs.
Do not assume that SysWOW64 means “64-bit.” Windows file-system redirection decides which view a requesting process sees.
Do not copy a 32-bit DLL over a 64-bit file, or the reverse. A 32-bit application may report a missing component even when a similarly named file exists in the native system view. DISM and SFC are safer because they use Windows’ own component sources and build-specific files.
What not to do
Do not download the DLL from a random archive
Standalone DLL download sites pages can provide:
- The wrong Windows build
- The wrong architecture
- An altered or unsigned file
- Malware
- A file that does not match the component store
The file may appear to restore the error message while leaving Windows damaged. Use Windows Update, DISM, SFC, Windows Recovery, or an official application installer instead.
Do not run regsvr32 on this file
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. This file is reported as a resource-only Windows component with no normal exported functions. Running commands such as these is not a valid repair:
regsvr32 microsoft-windows-battery-events.dll
regsvr32 /i microsoft-windows-battery-events.dll
Do not delete WinSxS files
Do not manually remove files from WinSxS to reclaim space or force Windows to rebuild the component. Component-store deletion can prevent Windows from updating or booting.
Do not copy a file from another PC
Even if another computer has the same filename, its Windows release, edition, architecture, and servicing state may differ. Use a matching repair source or Windows servicing instead.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesIf the error still remains
Record these details before escalating:
- The exact error text
- Windows 10 or Windows 11 edition and build
- The application name
- The full path shown in the error
- Whether the issue affects one application or several
- Whether it began after an update, cleanup utility, malware event, or disk problem
- The final DISM result
- The final SFC result
- Any Defender Protection History entry
If the problem began after a recent system change, try System Restore:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Choose a restore point from before the problem began.
- Review the affected programs.
- Complete the restore and restart.
For persistent corruption, use Windows Recovery options or an in-place repair installation. Back up important files before using Reset this PC or installation media.
FAQ
Is microsoft-windows-battery-events.dll a genuine Windows file?
Yes. Public metadata identifies it as a Microsoft Windows resource DLL normally stored under %windir%System32.
Is it a battery-driver file?
There is no verified evidence that it is supplied by a laptop manufacturer’s battery driver. The filename alone is not proof of driver ownership.
Should I install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
There is no evidence that this Windows resource requires those redistributables. Repair Windows with DISM and SFC first.
Does every Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC contain the same file?
Not necessarily. File versions, architecture, and component contents vary by Windows release and build.
Why does regsvr32 fail?
The file is a resource component rather than a conventional self-registering DLL. Registration is normally irrelevant.
What if the file exists but the error continues?
Check the exact path in the error, the affected executable’s architecture, its installation repair options, Defender history, and the DISM/SFC results. A copy outside %windir% may belong to the application rather than Windows.
What is the safest first action?
Open an elevated Command Prompt, run DISM, then run SFC, restart, and retest. That restores protected Windows components without introducing an untrusted standalone DLL.
