Minecraft Dungeons II launched on September 29, 2026. Mojang’s launch announcement lists Steam, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. The sequel introduces the Sift, a new dimension reached through rifts, and supports solo play or co-op for up to four players. Whether it’s good is a question for players and reviews; the official feature list explains what’s here, not how well it all works.
What is Minecraft Dungeons II?
Mojang describes Minecraft Dungeons II as an action-RPG adventure and the sequel to Minecraft Dungeons. Its launch story starts when strange rifts appear across the Overworld, disturbing the land and its mobs. The Illager High Council—the Prime Enchanter, Supreme Evoker, and Grand Illusioner—is behind coordinated attacks.

The rifts also lead into the Sift, a previously unknown dimension with unfamiliar environments, creatures, and challenges. Mojang presents the Sift as part of this sequel’s world; it is not described as a dimension added to the base Minecraft game.

The Sift and its challenges
The Sift is the clearest new setting highlighted in the official materials. Players enter it through rifts and encounter new environments and creatures. Mojang’s gameplay trailer article also frames the rifts as a route into this dimension.

A new threat from the Illagers
The story puts the Illager High Council at the center of the danger. The rifts bring disturbances across the Overworld, while the council’s coordinated attacks give the adventure its central conflict.
Equipment to shape a playstyle
Mojang says players can fight hostile mobs and collect weapons, armor, enchants, talismans, and artifacts, combining equipment to suit a preferred playstyle. Those are the publisher’s feature descriptions; they do not establish how balanced, varied, or deep the systems are in practice.

That is the platform list in the launch announcement, not a guarantee that every edition or storefront is available in every region. Check the store for your platform for current regional availability. Mojang’s earlier March announcement also mentioned Xbox on PC and Game Pass, but confirm the current listing and subscription terms before relying on those details.

How does multiplayer work?
The game can be played solo or with up to four players in online or couch co-op, according to Mojang’s launch announcement. The four-player total includes the host and up to three other players. For online console co-op, Mojang’s earlier date announcement said a platform-specific subscription is required and sold separately. Check the current requirements for your console and region before buying.

Is Minecraft Dungeons II good?
The launch announcement and feature descriptions establish what Mojang says the game includes, but they do not answer whether it is enjoyable, how it performs, or whether it improves on the first game. No independent performance testing or review consensus is established in the cited information. The most useful confirmed reasons to be curious are the Sift, the new Illager-led threat, equipment-based combat, and the option to play solo or with a group of up to four.
