“Haunted Minecraft” is a vivid description of Oasis, a separate AI-generated demo—not a new feature in Minecraft. In footage discussed by Forbes on November 3, 2024, the world’s blocks, scenery and creatures change unpredictably, giving the imitation an eerie, unstable feel.
What is Oasis, and is it part of Minecraft?
Oasis is an AI-generated imitation of Minecraft associated with Decart. The cited coverage does not identify it as an official feature released by Mojang or Microsoft, so it is more accurate to call it a demo than “AI Minecraft.” Minecraft is the original game; Oasis is a separate demonstration built to generate gameplay-like images.

The distinction matters: the “haunted” headline describes what the generated footage looks like, not a supernatural event or a change to Minecraft itself.
Why does the AI-generated world look haunted?
Forbes describes blocks appearing inconsistently, environments changing, and plants and animals mutating. These effects make the world feel less like a place governed by reliable rules and more like a dream that keeps rewriting itself.

- Minecraft is a game about placing blocks and going on adventures
- Explore randomly generated worlds and build amazing things from the simplest of homes to the grandest of castles
- Play in creative mode with unlimited resources or mine deep into the world in survival mode, crafting weapons and armor to fend off the dangerous mobs
- Play on the go in handheld or tabletop modes
- Includes Super Mario Mash-Up, Natural Texture Pack, Biome Settlers Skin Pack, Battle & Beasts Skin Pack, Campfire Tales Skin Pack; Compatible with Nintendo Switch only
The examples in the article are drawn from player videos. They illustrate the demo’s reported instability; they are not controlled tests or evidence that every session behaves identically.
How does Oasis generate gameplay?
Forbes describes Oasis as using “next-frame prediction”: the system takes the player’s keyboard and mouse inputs and predicts the next frame to display. Dani Di Placido explains that it uses training data to “predict the next frame that should appear in response to the player’s actions.”

That differs from the familiar feel of a conventional game such as Minecraft, where actions operate within stable coded rules. Decart described Oasis as generating real-time gameplay while internally simulating “physics, game rules, and graphics.” The footage discussed by Forbes, however, showed that the demo did not consistently preserve Minecraft-like logic or visual continuity.
Forbes reported that Oasis was trained on “millions of hours” of Minecraft game footage. That is the article’s reported scale, not an independently verified count; a more precise figure reported elsewhere is not established by the cited primary coverage.

How is Oasis different from Minecraft?
| What to compare | Minecraft | Oasis |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | The original game. | A separate AI-generated demonstration/imitation, not identified in the cited coverage as an official Minecraft release. |
| How play is represented | Gameplay follows the game’s stable coded rules. | Described as predicting the next frame in response to player input. |
| Continuity | The expected comparison is a world that follows its game rules. | Forbes reports shifting scenery and inconsistent objects, flora and fauna in the demo footage. |
Is there a Minecraft ghost mod?
Yes, but it is unrelated to Oasis. The community-made Ghost of You mod on Modrinth is listed for Java Edition 1.20.1–1.20.6 on Forge. Its listing says player deaths replay as ghosts. That is a conventional community mod feature, not evidence that Minecraft itself uses generative AI.
