Are Minecraft Realms down?
There are reports of Realms connection problems, but there is not enough verified evidence to call this a confirmed global outage. The problem could involve the Realms backend, Microsoft-account authentication, a platform service, a regional network route, a game-version mismatch, or a single Realm.
That distinction matters because different failures can look similar. Players may see a Realm that never loads, receive a “Could not connect to Realm” message, lose access after an update, or find that the Realm is visible to its owner but not to invited players.

As of the latest information available for August 16, 2026, Mojang’s public status channels are the authoritative places to confirm an incident. Community posts and outage trackers can show that users are experiencing problems, but they cannot establish the cause or prove that every region is affected.
What is actually affected?
Reports should be separated by edition, platform, and account role rather than described broadly as “Minecraft servers.” Realms operates separately within Minecraft Java Edition and Minecraft Bedrock Edition:

How to tell whether it is a broad outage
- Check Mojang Status and Mojang Support for an incident or restoration notice.
- Check the Minecraft Help Center for current service information.
- If you play on Xbox, check the Xbox service-status page, especially if login or multiplayer features are also failing.
- Ask another invited player to try. A test from a different platform, network, or country is more useful than repeatedly retrying from one device.
- Check whether Microsoft-account login, ordinary multiplayer, and the Marketplace work. If several of those fail, the problem may be authentication or platform-wide rather than the Realm itself.
Affected players should record the exact error, Java or Bedrock edition, device and platform, game version, country or region, and approximate time. Those details help distinguish a partial outage from a local problem and make a support report more useful.
Safe troubleshooting steps
These actions are low-risk and do not replace or overwrite the Realm world:
- Fully close and relaunch Minecraft.
- Confirm that the intended Microsoft account is signed in.
- Make sure players are using the same current edition and a compatible game release.
- Restart the computer, console, or mobile device.
- Try another network, such as a mobile hotspot, to identify a local routing issue.
- Temporarily disable a VPN or restrictive network filter.
- Ask the Realm owner to test access separately from an invited player.
- Wait and retry if Mojang acknowledges an incident.
Do not delete local Realm data, unsubscribe and resubscribe impulsively, replace the active world, or upload an old backup while the cause is unknown. Reinstalling the game before checking official service channels is also unlikely to help with a Mojang-side outage.

What if only one player cannot join?
If the owner can enter but one invited player cannot, start with that player’s Microsoft account, platform online service, game version, invitation status, network, and local client state. That pattern is not enough to identify a Realms-wide outage.
If every player is locked out, a Realms backend problem, authentication disruption, compatibility issue, or regional infrastructure failure becomes more plausible. Even then, confirmation from Mojang is needed before assigning a cause.
Are Realm worlds safe?
Realms are cloud-hosted, persistent private servers rather than temporary single-player sessions. Mojang advertises backups as part of Realms plans, but that does not justify a guarantee that no data can ever be lost or corrupted.

Most importantly, being unable to connect is not evidence that the world has been deleted. Avoid resetting the Realm or uploading an old backup merely to make the error disappear. Use a backup only after confirming actual data loss or corruption and understanding that restoring it can replace newer progress. For account-specific recovery, follow the official support process.

No reliable restoration time is available unless Mojang publishes one. A “service restored” message is useful evidence, but recovery can be gradual: some regions, platforms, or accounts may continue to experience intermittent problems after an incident is declared fixed.
Do not assume a fix based on a single successful login, and do not assume a global outage based on a handful of social-media posts. Record the time of any restoration notice and test the affected Realm again.

These are the U.S. prices displayed on the official page, not a universal price. Taxes, currency, storefront terms, platform requirements, and availability can vary. Realms offers always-online hosting, invited-friend access, backups, and three world slots; Bedrock Realms Plus also includes Marketplace content, while Java Realms does not include Marketplace access. Console multiplayer may require a separate platform online subscription.
Realms remains most suitable for friend groups that value simple persistent hosting. Self-hosted or third-party servers can offer more control, mods, or plugins, but they involve separate setup, maintenance, billing, compatibility, and support. Changing providers will not restore access to an existing Mojang Realm and is not an immediate remedy for an unconfirmed outage.
What to watch next
The clearest update will come from Mojang Status or Mojang Support. Until Mojang confirms the scope, describe the situation as reported connection problems rather than a verified worldwide shutdown. Most players should monitor official updates, try only reversible troubleshooting, and leave the active Realm world untouched.
