The pitch is familiar to World of Warcraft Mythic+ players: choose a hero, team up for challenging dungeons, and focus on that loop without first working through the broad leveling, questing, and gearing runway of a full MMO. “New genre” is the developers’ positioning as reported in coverage—not evidence that MODA is already an established industry category.
What does MODA mean?
MODA expands to Multiplayer Online Dungeon Adventure. Coverage applies the term to Fellowship, a game from developer Chief Rebel. It describes a focused cooperative dungeon experience, rather than a general label for a widely established class of games.
That distinction matters: calling MODA a “new genre” communicates the game’s intended identity, but it does not establish that players or the wider industry have adopted MODA as a standard category.
How is Fellowship like WoW Mythic+?
Coverage describes Fellowship as built around a party entering dungeons and taking on escalating challenges. Players select heroes with roles such as tank, healer, and damage dealer, and dungeon play involves loot and combat mechanics that may feel familiar to Mythic+ players. These are reported descriptions of the design, not independent test results.

The comparison is about the shape of the activity: a coordinated group tackling repeatable, increasingly demanding dungeons. It does not mean Fellowship is a mode inside World of Warcraft, or that the two games have identical systems.
What does “without the grind” actually mean?
The promise is best understood as less pre-dungeon grind, not as a game with no progression or repeat play. Coverage says Fellowship aims to let players reach its dungeon content without first completing the leveling, questing, and gearing routine associated with a broader MMO experience.

There is still progression within the dungeon-focused structure. The same coverage describes hero-specific talent trees, abilities, and equipment progression. In other words, the intended trade-off is a narrower route to the target activity—not the removal of character development.

Who might be interested in MODA?
- Mythic+ fans who want a co-op dungeon loop with escalating challenge as the main attraction.
- Players short on time who would rather get to dungeon runs than spend a long stretch leveling, questing, or gearing first.
- Players who enjoy role-based groups and are comfortable selecting from designed heroes rather than building a character from scratch.
If your main draw is open-world exploration, a broad quest campaign, or extensive character-building before endgame, the focused MODA pitch may be less appealing. That is a distinction in emphasis, not a claim that a particular feature is absent from the game.
