Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 keeps your Warzone Operators, Operator Skins, Weapon Blueprints, and weapons from Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, Black Ops 6, and Black Ops 7 available. The important exception is legacy Weapon Camos: Activision corrected its earlier announcement and says those camos will not be available in Warzone.
Legacy weapons remain usable through Warzone’s Legacy tab, but they do not retain full Gunsmith access or previous custom loadouts. Each legacy base weapon receives a five-attachment Armory version, while existing blueprints keep their established attachment setups. You do not need to buy Modern Warfare 4 simply to retain previously earned Warzone content.

What carries into Warzone Season 1
Carry Forward in Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 covers the main collections players have built across the recent Call of Duty releases. The following content remains available in Warzone from Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, Black Ops 6, and Black Ops 7:

The announcement describes the collection as remaining available in Warzone. It does not say that a particular Modern Warfare 4 edition must be purchased to preserve content you already earned or bought in Warzone. Carry Forward is tied to the Warzone integration, not to ownership of the new premium game.

What happens to legacy weapons and blueprints
Older weapons are not being deleted from Warzone, but they are being presented differently from Modern Warfare 4 weapons. Open the Legacy tab to access weapons from Modern Warfare II through Black Ops 7.
Five-attachment Armory versions
Each legacy base weapon receives a five-attachment version in the Armory. This is a controlled way to keep older guns playable without carrying every part of the previous weapon-building system into the new integration. The five-attachment limit is the published provision; it is not a promise that every former Gunsmith option will remain selectable.
Existing blueprints keep their builds
A legacy Blueprint remains available with its existing attachment setup. That treatment is separate from the Armory version of the base weapon: if you own a Blueprint, its established configuration is preserved, but the announcement does not grant full editing access to that legacy build.

Gunsmith functionality is not supported for legacy Weapons or legacy Blueprints. Previous Custom Loadouts for those items are not supported either. In practical terms, you can continue using the weapon or Blueprint that is provided, but you should not expect to open the old Gunsmith interface, rebuild the weapon with historical parts, or import an earlier loadout unchanged.

This makes legacy guns useful for preference, collection value, and familiar handling while giving Modern Warfare 4 weapons the more flexible customization environment. Activision says Raven Software will continue weapon balancing every two weeks, with the intended meta rooted in Modern Warfare 4 while still preserving nostalgic choices.
Why your old camos are different
Legacy Weapon Camos are the major exclusion. Activision issued a correction stating that these camos will not be available in Warzone. The correction explicitly replaces the earlier statement that legacy camos would carry forward.
That limitation applies to the camo category, not to your entire weapon collection. Your legacy weapons and blueprints remain accessible under the rules above, but a camo earned on an older weapon should not be expected to appear as a selectable Warzone finish in Season 1.
Operator Skin toggle: what it changes
Modern Warfare 4 introduces a Warzone-only Operator Skin toggle. It is off by default and affects the way other players’ Operators are represented on your own screen.

When the toggle is on
- Another player’s Operator or Operator Skin from a different Call of Duty title is shown to you as a Modern Warfare 4 Operator.
- The replacement applies to enemies, party members, and squadmates.
- The behavior works in the lobby and in a match.
- The change is local to your view.
When the toggle is off
You see the Operators and skins selected by other players, subject to the normal game presentation. The toggle does not remove anyone’s content from their account.
What the toggle does not do
It does not change the Operator selected by the person who enabled it, and it does not change what other players see. If you turn it on, only your own display is altered. Existing Carry Forward plans are not cancelled or reduced by this visual option.
Do you need Modern Warfare 4 to keep Warzone content?
No published requirement says that you must purchase Modern Warfare 4 to retain previously earned or purchased Warzone Operators, skins, blueprints, or legacy weapons. The Carry Forward rules are defined through Warzone’s Season 1 integration.

Buy the new game if you want its campaign, Multiplayer, DMZ, or Modern Warfare 4 weapon and progression systems. Do not treat purchase of a particular edition as a prerequisite for keeping your existing Warzone collection.

Modern Warfare 4 launch and early-access dates
Modern Warfare 4 launches worldwide on October 23, 2026. Digital preorder or prepurchase customers receive campaign early access beginning October 16, 2026, Pacific Time. Digital preorder or prepurchase DMZ early access begins October 20, 2026, Pacific Time.
Physical console editions are announced for preorder on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X through select retailers. Digital editions are offered on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC, PlayStation 5, Battle.net, and Steam. Nintendo Switch 2 availability has also been announced. Retailer inventory and platform availability can change, so check the store attached to your platform before ordering.
Which preorder rewards work in Warzone?
The preorder rewards below have different destinations. A reward being connected to Modern Warfare 4 does not automatically make it a Warzone carry-forward item.

Inner Circuit M4 platform versions
Xbox and other platforms display different visual treatments for the Inner Circuit M4 Blueprint. Activision says the versions are functionally identical: they use the same build, attachments, and gameplay characteristics. The visual difference does not create a different weapon performance profile.

What the Vault Edition adds
The Vault Edition is aimed at players who want bundled Modern Warfare 4 extras rather than merely continued Warzone access. It includes:
- Hostile Alliance Operator Pack
- Special Forces Operator Pack
- Five Signature Weapon Collection items: Kastov 762, ISO Nightshade, Rezi 12, Oris 8.6, and Combat Knife blueprints
- One BlackCell season
- A DMZ Deployment Bonus
The included BlackCell package provides 1,100 COD Points and 20 Battle Pass Tier Skips, alongside access to more than 100 Battle Pass rewards. These are edition benefits; they are not the mechanism that preserves your older Warzone content.
How to prepare your Warzone account
- Use the same Activision account. Carry-forward content is attached to the account ecosystem that holds your existing Warzone collection. Verify the account before linking a new platform.
- Inventory your important items. Note the Operators, Operator Skins, blueprints, and weapons you expect to find under the Legacy tab after Season 1 begins.
- Separate camos from blueprints. A Blueprint can remain available even though its old Weapon Camo category does not. Do not assume that preserving one preserves the other.
- Rebuild expectations for loadouts. Legacy guns will not use old Custom Loadouts or legacy Gunsmith. Plan to select the five-attachment Armory version or use the Blueprint’s existing setup.
- Choose the Operator display setting. Leave the toggle off to see other players’ selected legacy looks, or turn it on if you want those players represented as Modern Warfare 4 Operators on your own screen.
- Check platform timing. If you purchased digitally, use the October 16 campaign and October 20 DMZ early-access dates in Pacific Time when planning installation and play.
PC connection and texture-streaming requirement
Activision says Modern Warfare 4 uses texture streaming across all game modes to improve visual quality while reducing the game’s overall hard-drive storage footprint. On PC, plan for a continuous internet connection in Multiplayer and DMZ. Texture streaming is a technical requirement to account for when troubleshooting missing or delayed visual assets.

The published Carry Forward information does not promise transfer of every vehicle, equipment item, killstreak, music track, or mode-specific cosmetic. The historical Carry Forward explanation is that content can be unavailable when the receiving game does not offer the relevant feature. Treat the confirmed categories—Operators, Operator Skins, Weapon Blueprints, and weapons—as the reliable scope rather than assuming that every item ever earned transfers.
No authoritative figure has been published for a storage increase, performance change, player-count impact, or the percentage of a collection that carries forward. Avoid treating estimates or community inventories as official guarantees. Weapon balance, item availability, platform support, redemption windows, and retailer stock can change after launch.

The practical choice is straightforward: use a legacy weapon when its feel, blueprint, or role matters more than extensive tuning; choose a Modern Warfare 4 weapon when you want the primary customization and balance focus of the new season.
