There is no verified universal “best” sensitivity in Modern Warfare 4. A strong starting point is 1.65 horizontal and vertical controller sensitivity, a 0.95–1.00 ADS multiplier, both aim-assist switches enabled, and each minimum stick deadzone set just above the point where drift begins. On mouse and keyboard, begin with a 1.00 ADS multiplier and a sensitivity that lets you turn about 180 degrees in one comfortable swipe. Treat those values as baselines, not guaranteed optimum settings: hardware, DPI, desk space, display, comfort and future patches all change the result.

| Controller baseline | Players who want familiar stick aiming with a controlled starting point | 1.65/1.65 sensitivity; 0.95–1.00 ADS; compare Standard/Gradual with Dynamic/Instant | PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC | Oct 2026 |
| Mouse-and-keyboard baseline | Players with desk space for repeatable swipes and fine aim control | 1.00 ADS multiplier; tune for a comfortable 180-degree swipe; 4.12 at 1600 DPI is one author’s reference | PC | Oct 2026 |
Modern Warfare 4 launched on October 23, 2026, for PC storefronts, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch 2. The official title page and launch notes are the authority for release behavior, while the numerical controller and mouse values below are attributed recommendations or observations rather than independent measurements. Check the current launch information at the official Modern Warfare 4 page.

Open Settings > Controller. In the reviewed PC Steam menu, stick sensitivity and Deadzone Inputs are in the controller area; response curve, ADS transition and aim-assist switches appear in the aiming controls. Menu labels can move after patches, so use the wording visible in your own build.
Start with equal horizontal and vertical sensitivity
Set both axes to 1.65 as a starting point. SCUF published 1.65 for each axis in September 2026 as a beta/pre-launch recommendation, not an Infinity Ward-approved optimum. The screenshot-led walkthrough observed 1.20/1.20 as defaults on its PC Steam build. Equal values make the first calibration easier: if turning feels slow, raise both in small steps; if you repeatedly pass targets, lower the relevant axis.

Do not copy an older Call of Duty game’s 6–8 sensitivity scale into this menu. Modern Warfare 4’s controls use a different numerical range, so the useful question is whether you can make a controlled turn and stop on a target, not whether the number resembles an older title.
Set ADS separately from hip-fire look speed
Leave the ADS sensitivity multiplier at 1.00 initially, or try SCUF’s 0.95–1.00 range after your basic look speed feels comfortable. A slightly lower multiplier can reduce overshoot while tracking through a sight; a value closer to 1.00 preserves more of your hip-fire feel. Change this only after deciding whether the problem is general turning or aiming while zoomed.
Choose a response curve by feel, not by a claimed accuracy ranking
The reviewed menu identifies Standard, Linear and Dynamic response curves. Standard was observed as the default and is a sensible familiar baseline. Dynamic changes how stick movement builds, so it is worth comparing if the first part of your stick travel feels too slow or if you want a different transition into faster turns. Linear is another option for players who prefer a more direct input relationship.
SCUF recommends Dynamic, but that is its own pre-launch recommendation. No cited evidence establishes that Dynamic, Standard or Linear produces objectively better accuracy for every player. Keep one curve for several repeatable drills before deciding; changing curve and sensitivity together makes the result impossible to diagnose.
Compare Gradual, Instant and After Zoom ADS transitions
Gradual was the observed default. Instant applies the ADS multiplier immediately, which is why SCUF lists it as an alternative. After Zoom is a third timing option. Use Gradual if you prefer a transition that eases into the scoped value; trial Instant if the first moments of aiming feel delayed; consider After Zoom if you want the change to occur only after the zoom state is reached. None is mandatory.
Keep both aim-assist switches on while you establish a baseline
The reviewed menu shows separate Target Aim Assist and ADS Aim Assist switches. SCUF’s baseline leaves both enabled. Test them separately only after your sensitivity and deadzones are stable, because disabling one changes the feel you are evaluating.
Do not carry beta descriptions of aim-assist strength into launch as if they were permanent. Infinity Ward wrote in its beta notes, “For Weekend 2, we’ve made adjustments to aim assist to reduce its impact.” That statement describes a beta change, not a guaranteed launch value; read the dated beta patch notes alongside current launch information.

Calibrate minimum stick deadzones independently
Turn on Test Stick Deadzone when the option is available. Lower the left-stick minimum until movement begins without touching the stick, then raise it just enough to stop that drift. Repeat the process for the right stick. Each stick can need a different value, especially on a controller with uneven wear.
The walkthrough observed 15 for both minimum stick deadzones and 99/99 for maximum values on its PC Steam build. Those are observations from one build, not cross-platform promises. SCUF suggests 3/3 minimums and proposed left/right maximums of 65/99; treat those as a recommendation, not a package you must copy. Maximum deadzones alter the feel and range of input, while minimum deadzones are primarily a drift-versus-responsiveness calibration.
A compatible gaming controller can make deadzone adjustment more consistent, but buying hardware is not required. If drift remains at a high minimum, inspect the controller, reconnect it and check for firmware or operating-system calibration options before assuming a game setting can repair a worn stick.

SCUF suggests trigger deadzones of 0–5, vibration off and the Tactical layout. The screenshot-led PC Steam guide observed trigger defaults of 13. Lower trigger deadzones can make an input register sooner but can also expose accidental presses; test them in a safe practice situation. Vibration off may reduce distraction, while vibration on can provide useful physical feedback. Choose the layout that keeps essential actions reachable and comfortable rather than treating any recommendation as compulsory.
Understand the launch Tactical Sprint rule before changing movement controls
Tactical Sprint is not a universal sprint toggle in the launch build. Infinity Ward retained the beta change that ties Tactical Sprint availability to the Blood Rush perk and uses a single-tap-run default when Blood Rush is equipped. The launch notes state: “Lastly, we have kept the change from Beta to make Tactical Sprint not available by default.” Read the October 2026 launch patch notes before interpreting sprint-assist or tactical-sprint controls.
Sprint Assist, mantle assistance and slide/dive behavior are separate movement choices. A setting that makes ordinary sprint easier cannot grant Tactical Sprint when the required perk is not active.
What are the best mouse-and-keyboard starting settings?
On PC, confirm that mouse and keyboard are the selected input devices and begin with a 1.00 ADS multiplier. The October 23 guide’s Relative ADS sensitivity and Instant ADS transition are the author’s preferences, not documented official defaults. Use them as experiments after establishing a repeatable base.

Choose sensitivity from a comfortable 180-degree turn
Move your mouse from a neutral position to the edge of your normal pad in one relaxed swipe. Adjust sensitivity until that swipe turns approximately 180 degrees. This gives you a repeatable reference without pretending that one number fits every DPI, grip, screen or desk.
The guide’s author gives 4.12 at 1600 DPI as a personal reference. It is not a universal target and should not be converted into a promise about accuracy. Higher DPI with lower in-game sensitivity and lower DPI with higher in-game sensitivity can feel different because of hardware processing and available physical travel, so record both values when you tune.
A large mouse pad matters only when your current surface prevents the longer swipe that your chosen sensitivity requires. It is an aid for physical space, not a requirement for changing the game’s settings.
Use monitor-distance scaling carefully
The guide describes a 1.78 monitor-distance-coefficient example tied to a 16:9 screen. Do not prescribe that coefficient for every aspect ratio or claim competitive superiority. If your display shape differs, treat the value as a reference to investigate rather than a setting to copy blindly.
Leave per-zoom customization off until your base aim is stable
Keep custom per-zoom sensitivity disabled initially. If your crosshair consistently passes targets while tracking through a sight, trial a slightly lower ADS multiplier instead of changing every zoom level. Once basic and ADS movement are predictable, you can tune individual zoom values one at a time and keep notes about each change.
Keep movement keys familiar and make only accessible remaps
Start with familiar movement keys. If equipment actions are difficult to reach, move only those actions to accessible mouse buttons or another keyboard key. The guide discusses Sprint Assist, Mantle Assist and separate slide/dive activation; these are author choices, not an official developer preset. Change one binding or movement assist at a time, then confirm that sprinting, mantling and sliding still work as intended.
Which PC graphics and latency settings affect input decisions?
Infinity Ward’s PC documentation describes sub-frame mouse polling, a PC-exclusive Enhanced FOV option, separately adjustable World and Weapon Depth of Field and a built-in benchmark that reports frame rate and input latency. Those features help you inspect your own system; they do not establish one FOV, frame rate or graphics preset as best for every PC.

The publisher describes more than 800 customization options across graphics, gameplay, input devices, interface and other categories. Its published PC specifications list an SSD requirement and 115 GB of storage, and identify 90 FPS at recommended specifications as a target under those stated conditions. These are publisher figures, not independent installation or performance measurements. Consult the official PC technology and specifications article for the conditions attached to them.
Use the benchmark after changing a graphics option, then compare frame pacing and reported input latency on your hardware. Avoid claiming that Enhanced FOV, depth-of-field changes or any fixed frame rate will improve every player’s aim. Consoles do not automatically receive PC-exclusive Enhanced FOV controls.
What is the practical difference between controller and mouse settings?
Controller tuning is mainly a balance between stick travel, drift and assistance. Mouse tuning is mainly a balance between physical swipe distance, DPI and repeatable stopping. Neither input method has a cited universal win-rate or accuracy advantage.
| Decision axis | Controller | Mouse and keyboard |
|---|---|---|
| Comfortable turn speed | Adjust horizontal and vertical stick sensitivity in small steps; begin equal. | Choose a sensitivity that permits an approximately 180-degree comfortable swipe. |
| Tracking and overshoot | Lower the relevant sensitivity or ADS multiplier when you repeatedly pass targets. | Lower in-game sensitivity or ADS multiplier when stopping and tracking feel too fast. |
| Hardware limitation | Minimum deadzone must be high enough to stop unwanted movement but low enough to preserve response. | Desk and pad space determine how much physical travel is available. |
| ADS timing | Compare Gradual, Instant and After Zoom. | Relative ADS and Instant were one guide author’s choices; they are not official defaults. |
| Input accessibility | Layout, vibration and trigger thresholds can be adapted to reach and comfort. | Keep movement keys familiar and remap only hard-to-reach actions as needed. |
| Performance checks | Platform-specific frame pacing still matters, but PC-only polling and benchmark tools do not apply. | PC benchmark results and sub-frame polling documentation give you tools to inspect your own system. |
How do you calibrate settings without chasing your aim?
Use the same short drill each time: make a controlled turn, acquire a stationary or predictable target, track it while aiming down sights, and repeat from the same starting position. The goal is a consistent comparison, not a personal benchmark score.
- Record the baseline. Write down sensitivity, ADS multiplier, response curve, ADS transition, deadzones, DPI and any movement assists.
- Check for unwanted input. With a controller untouched, use Test Stick Deadzone and note when each stick begins to move. On mouse, verify that the sensor and surface allow the same starting position for every swipe.
- Run the turn drill. If you cannot turn comfortably, increase the relevant sensitivity modestly. If you overshoot, decrease it modestly.
- Run the ADS drill. Keep hip-fire sensitivity fixed and alter only the ADS multiplier or transition. Compare whether the reticle settles before changing anything else.
- Compare one alternate curve or transition. Controller players can compare Standard with Dynamic and Gradual with Instant. Mouse players can compare their base ADS choice with a slightly lower multiplier.
- Retest after a patch. Launch updates can change behavior or restore a menu default. Recheck the values you recorded instead of assuming they remain unchanged.
Why does my controller still drift or feel sluggish?
Drift and sluggishness are usually opposite calibration problems. A minimum deadzone set too low allows unwanted movement; one set too high masks early stick travel and can feel unresponsive.

- Drift while untouched: raise only the affected stick’s minimum deadzone until movement stops.
- Slow first movement: lower that minimum slightly, provided the stick remains stable when released.
- Fast turns but poor stopping: reduce the relevant axis sensitivity or ADS multiplier rather than immediately changing the response curve.
- Different behavior between sticks: calibrate left and right independently; identical numbers are not required.
- Accidental firing or aiming: raise trigger deadzones from an aggressive 0–5 trial and check whether your layout causes unintended contact.
- Movement option seems unavailable: verify whether Blood Rush is equipped before troubleshooting Tactical Sprint controls.
How we chose these starting points
The recommendations prioritize settings that can be checked and adjusted systematically: a comfortable turn speed, controllable ADS tracking, independent drift calibration, clearly identified menu choices and a repeatable one-variable-at-a-time process. Official Call of Duty and Infinity Ward pages supply release, patch, PC-feature and launch-behavior facts. The controller numbers are labeled as SCUF’s September 2026 beta/pre-launch recommendations or as values observed in a PC Steam walkthrough; the mouse figures are labeled as the October 23 guide author’s preferences. No cited source establishes a universal sensitivity, DPI, input method, professional consensus or head-to-head performance advantage.
Frequently asked questions
Are Modern Warfare 4 controller defaults identical on every platform?
Not necessarily. The 1.20 sensitivity, 15 minimum deadzone and 99 maximum deadzone values were observed on a particular PC Steam build, so another platform or later patch may display different defaults. Check your own menu after updates rather than treating those observations as a cross-platform specification.

Can I directly convert my Modern Warfare III sensitivity?
A direct numerical conversion is not established here because Modern Warfare 4 uses its own menu scale and response behavior. Start from a comfortable turn and stopping drill, then adjust in small increments while keeping a record of the new values.
Can a launch patch change how aim assist feels?
Yes. Infinity Ward changed aim-assist strength during the beta, and beta notes do not guarantee launch behavior. After a substantial update, verify both aim-assist switches and recalibrate your own baseline instead of relying on an old description of rotational strength.
