No. Monster Train 2 has no official cross-save between PC and mobile. The iOS and Android editions were announced for 2026 but were not released, and no App Store or Google Play page or PC-to-phone save link has been announced as of 29 October 2026. Shiny Shoe’s published policy is that progress must be made independently on each platform where you buy the game. Steam Cloud and Xbox cloud saves do work, but only within their respective ecosystems.
Does Monster Train 2 support cross-save between PC and mobile?
It does not. In this context, cross-save means one metaprogression file—your unlocked clans, Pyre Hearts, logbook entries, cosmetics and other account-wide progress—following you between a PC storefront and a phone edition. Monster Train 2 has no official account-linked system that does that.

That rule remains the safest buying assumption for the mobile ports. Big Fan Games and Shiny Shoe announced iOS and Android versions on 28 October 2026, but described them only as coming in 2026. There are no firm release dates, public store pages or promise of a PC-mobile save bridge.

What is the difference between cross-save, cloud saves and Play Anywhere?
These terms describe different systems, and confusing them is the source of most Monster Train 2 save questions.

Only the middle two rows are officially supported, and each stays inside its own store family. A cloud icon does not mean a universal Monster Train 2 account.

There is no single console-to-PC answer because each platform ecosystem handles saves differently. Xbox is the exception with an official bridge; PlayStation and Nintendo versions do not have an announced link to Steam or to one another.
Xbox console to Xbox PC
Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox cloud-save support cover the Xbox console and the Xbox/Microsoft Store PC version. A Steam Community user reported that a save made on Xbox appeared after launching the Game Pass PC build; that is an Xbox-to-Xbox-PC transfer, not evidence of Steam compatibility. Xbox achievements are part of the same ecosystem.
PlayStation 5
The PlayStation 5 edition has no official save bridge to Steam, Xbox, Nintendo or the future phone editions. A PlayStation save therefore remains a PlayStation save unless the publisher announces a new account system.

Nintendo Switch and Switch 2
The existing Switch release is a digital edition. Nintendo’s Switch 2 compatibility wording says “Supported – Game behavior is consistent with Nintendo Switch,” which describes compatibility of the Switch build, not a new cross-save account. The native Switch 2 version was included in the 2026 announcement with iOS and Android, but no cross-platform save feature was announced.

Yes. Steam and the Xbox/Microsoft Store version are separate entities. When a Steam user asked HARRISZONE on 21 May 2025 whether the independent-progress rule also applied to PC Game Pass versus Steam, the developer answered: “Correct – these are two separate entities.”
Choose one PC client if you want to keep a single unlock history. Steam Cloud will not import the Microsoft Store/Game Pass save, and Xbox cloud saves will not appear in Steam. Community guides describe copying a Game Pass save out of the Windows Gaming Services package and placing a file in the Steam save folder, but that is an unofficial workaround rather than a supported migration.
How does Steam Cloud work for Monster Train 2?
Steam Cloud is the supported way to carry a Steam save between compatible Steam devices. Prima Games reports that progress is shared between devices signed into the same Steam account, including Steam Deck, while PCGamingWiki lists native Steam Cloud support with 50 MB of available cloud space.
Supported Steam devices
- Windows PC: Steam Cloud synchronizes the Steam installation’s save.
- macOS: The Steam macOS edition uses the same Steam Cloud scope.
- Steam Deck: This is the practical handheld route for continuing a Steam save because the Deck is a Steam device, not a phone.
Steam Cloud does not turn a Steam license into an Xbox, Switch, PlayStation or mobile license. It also cannot fix a platform that the developer does not support for cloud synchronization.

Linux and Proton caveat
On 2 June 2025, Shiny Shoe developer Sippy wrote: “Okay, got more info. Sadly we dont support Linux Steanm so cloud saves wont work. The only way around it is to move save files over manually, but that is also likely to break achivements.” The spelling is preserved from the original post. Linux or Proton users should therefore treat manual transfer as a risk, not as a second form of Steam Cloud.
Windows save location
Prima Games identifies the Windows folder as:

%USERPROFILE%/AppData/LocalLow/Shiny Shoe/MonsterTrain2Players commonly refer to the metaprogression file as metagameSave.json. Do not overwrite files casually: keep a backup of the entire folder before attempting any unsupported move.
Demo saves are separate
Progress from the Monster Train 2 demo does not carry into the full game. Prima Games notes that copying demo files does not make the unlocks appear in the retail version.
What to do after a lost Steam or Linux save
On 16 June 2025, developer shinycami described a support restore path: list your unlocks and email [email protected] for a replacement save. That is a recovery service for lost progress, not synchronization between storefronts.
When will the iOS and Android versions be available?
The mobile editions were announced on 28 October 2026 for release in 2026, with reports describing them as “later this year” or simply “in 2026.” No concrete day was given as of 29 October, and no App Store or Google Play listing was available. A TapTap page carrying Android, iOS and Steam labels is a Steam-oriented listing with PC requirements and Steam tags, not proof that a public phone client is downloadable.

The announcement arrived alongside the premium DLC The Punished, priced at $7.99 by the publisher and scheduled for PC and current consoles on 10 November 2026, with the mobile and Switch 2 editions in the same 2026 announcement window. Those release details do not change the save policy.
There is also no official mobile price for Monster Train 2. A price inferred from the first Monster Train is not a published sequel price, so do not use it to plan a second purchase.
If I buy the game on mobile later, will my Steam progress remain?
Under the current policy, expect the phone edition to begin with its own progression. Your Steam metagame file would remain intact on Steam, but clans, Pyre Hearts, logbook unlocks and cosmetics would need to be earned again on the mobile storefront unless Shiny Shoe announces a change.
The original Monster Train’s community discussions also treated App Store and Steam accounts as unconnected. That is useful precedent for expectations, but it is not a developer guarantee about Monster Train 2. The only firm sequel statement remains the independent-progress rule from May 2025.

You can attempt a local copy, but it is unsupported and should not be confused with cross-save. Community instructions point to the Windows Gaming Services save package for the Game Pass build and the Steam folder shown above, usually copying a file such as metagameSave.json.

Risks include a save that the other client cannot read, progress being overwritten by a later cloud sync, and broken or missing achievements. Sippy specifically warned that manual moves were likely to break achievements on Linux. Shiny Shoe has not promised support for a Game Pass-to-Steam conversion, so make backups and assume the studio may decline to repair a manually altered file.
Which portable option preserves progress today?
If continuing an existing save while away from a desktop is the priority, the choice is between ecosystems rather than a universal account.

Does the Switch version come on a physical cartridge?
Nintendo lists Monster Train 2 on Switch as Edition: Digital. The listed game size is 2.9 GB for Switch and Switch 2. Sportskeeda reported a $24.99 standard digital Switch edition in 2025. A digital purchase lets you play the Switch save on Switch hardware; it does not create a phone or PC copy.
What should you check before buying a second copy?
- Identify the first copy’s ecosystem. Steam, Xbox/Microsoft Store, PlayStation and Nintendo saves are separate unless that platform’s own cloud system says otherwise.
- Decide whether you need the existing unlocks. If replaying metaprogression is unacceptable, a second storefront purchase carries a real restart cost under the current policy.
- For PC, choose one client. Steam Cloud and Xbox cloud saves do not merge, so switching between Steam and Game Pass means maintaining separate progress.
- Enable the platform’s cloud service. Steam Cloud is the supported Steam route; Xbox cloud saves and Play Anywhere are the supported Xbox route.
- Back up before any manual copy. Preserve the complete save folder and expect achievement problems if you move files between unsupported clients.
- Recheck the policy when mobile launches. Shiny Shoe could announce an account-linked system later, but no such reversal had been announced by 29 October 2026.
Will Monster Train 2 add cross-save when mobile launches?
That is unknown. The mobile announcement confirms platforms and a 2026 window, not an account service, and the May 2025 developer replies still say each purchased platform requires independent progress. Until Shiny Shoe or Big Fan Games publishes a specific cross-save announcement, treat PC, console and mobile as separate progression silos.
