The Punished is not playable yet. As of October 30, 2026, Steam marks the Monster Train 2 expansion as unavailable and lists a planned November 10, 2026 release. It is announced as paid DLC costing $7.99 in the United States, and it requires the Monster Train 2 base game on the platform where you intend to play.
Before launch, the only confirmed access step is to open the official Steam listing and wishlist The Punished. Wishlisting can provide a release notification, but it does not purchase the expansion, reserve a copy or unlock it early.

No. The Punished is scheduled for release on November 10, 2026, but the checked Steam listing still shows it as unavailable on October 30. There is no verified pre-release method for playing the clan, and wishlisting is not an early-access entitlement.
| Platform | Status checked October 30, 2026 | Announced price | Important requirement or timing |
|---|---|---|---|
| PC through Steam | Unavailable; wishlist available | $7.99 US | Monster Train 2 is required on Steam |

| Xbox | The checked base-game listing did not yet show The Punished as an add-on | $7.99 US announced | Confirm the Xbox store listing after launch |
The publisher’s announcement covers PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and Xbox. The US figure is an announced launch price, not a promise that every region will display the same converted amount, tax treatment or currency price.

What can I do before the release date?
- Confirm that Monster Train 2 is licensed on the platform where you plan to play.
- On Steam, open the official DLC page and select the wishlist option. This is the documented pre-launch action.
- Check the account’s country or region, payment method and available wallet balance so you can evaluate the live local price when the add-on launches.
- Do not purchase a similarly named item, an older expansion or a purported activation code as a substitute for The Punished.
A storefront page can exist before its purchase button is enabled. A wishlist page, announcement, trailer or listing marked “coming soon” does not prove that the DLC has been delivered to your account.
What do I need before trying to access The Punished?
You need a copy of Monster Train 2 on the same platform ecosystem where you plan to buy and play the expansion. The DLC is an add-on, not a standalone game and not a free clan patch.
- Base game: Steam explicitly states, “This content requires the base game Monster Train 2 on Steam in order to play.” Read the full listing at Steam.
- Compatible account: Purchase The Punished through the platform account that owns or can access Monster Train 2. A gift card or wallet balance funds a store purchase; it is not a separate edition of the DLC.
- Available storefront listing: Before release, a page can exist without offering a purchase button. Wait for the add-on to become live in your region rather than treating a wishlist page or an older expansion listing as ownership.
- Storage and updates: Once purchased, allow the platform to download or apply the add-on and update Monster Train 2 if the storefront requests it. No official source has documented a special installation command.
- Correct platform: A Steam license, Nintendo license, PlayStation license and Xbox license are separate store entitlements. Buying on one does not establish ownership on another.
How do I access The Punished on release day?
Use the store for the platform on which you already own Monster Train 2. The steps below describe the documented purchase path without pretending that an unreleased listing already has its final interface.
Steam on Windows or macOS
- Open the official Monster Train 2: The Punished Steam page.
- After the announced release date, check whether the page has changed from unavailable to a live purchase option in your country.
- Confirm that the signed-in Steam account owns Monster Train 2.
- Buy the add-on at the regional price shown by Steam. The announced US price is $7.99, but the amount displayed to you may differ by region and applicable taxes.
- Let Steam download or apply the DLC, then launch Monster Train 2 from your library.
- If Steam shows the purchase as complete but no content appears, verify the game’s DLC or properties area and allow any pending update to finish before restarting the game.
Steam lists Windows and macOS requirements for the add-on. The listing does not document a special launcher, code-entry step or pre-release unlock.
Nintendo Switch
- Open the Nintendo eShop on the Switch profile and Nintendo account that will play Monster Train 2.
- Search for Monster Train 2: The Punished or open the game’s add-on section once the expansion is live.
- Check that the listing is for The Punished, not the base game or the earlier Destiny of the Railforged expansion.
- Complete the purchase, then allow the console to download the add-on and any required update.
- Start Monster Train 2 and look for the new content through the game’s normal clan or run-selection interface only after the installation finishes.
The checked Nintendo base-game page had not yet displayed The Punished as a purchasable add-on. That absence before release does not establish that the expansion will be missing after launch.
PlayStation 5 and Xbox
- Open the digital store on the console or its official web storefront.
- Search the Monster Train 2 add-ons for The Punished after release.
- Verify the platform, edition and region before paying; an older add-on page is not proof that The Punished is installed.
- Purchase it with the account and payment method used for the base game, then wait for the console to install the add-on.
- Launch Monster Train 2 after installation. If the clan does not appear, check the game’s add-on management screen and the download queue before assuming a progression lock.
The publisher announced PlayStation 5 and Xbox support, while the checked Xbox base-game listing did not yet show the new expansion. Store labels can change by region, so use the live platform page as the final authority.
How should I compare buying routes?
The practical choice is determined first by where you own the base game. A Steam player should use Steam; a Switch player should use Nintendo’s eShop; a PlayStation 5 player should use PlayStation’s store; and an Xbox player should use the Xbox store. Compare the live add-on listing, regional price, taxes, account region and the payment method accepted by that storefront.

Do not compare gift cards as if they were different DLC editions. A Steam gift card creates Steam wallet credit, while a Nintendo eShop, PlayStation or Xbox card funds its own platform. None transfers a license between ecosystems. Likewise, an older Monster Train add-on appearing in a console search is not evidence that The Punished is included.
Do I have to buy Monster Train 2 before The Punished?
Yes. The Steam listing makes the dependency explicit: “This content requires the base game Monster Train 2 on Steam in order to play.” The same practical rule applies across console storefronts: The Punished is downloadable content for Monster Train 2, not a self-contained game.
Buying the DLC on one platform does not establish ownership on another platform. For example, a Steam purchase is tied to Steam, while a console purchase is tied to that console’s store account and licensing system. Choose the storefront where your base game is installed.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Is The Punished free?
No. The Punished is announced as paid DLC with a $7.99 US price. That is separate from a free game update and separate from the earlier free Wurmkin update that accompanied the Destiny of the Railforged release.
Storefronts can show different regional prices, taxes or currency conversions. Check the amount on the live store page before confirming payment. Do not assume that a free update, a bundle containing the base game or an older add-on includes The Punished unless the current listing says so.
How do I unlock Archus?
There is no verified official post-purchase unlock recipe yet. No checked source confirms that Archus requires a particular story milestone, number of runs, victory condition, clan level or restart sequence.
After the DLC is installed, open Monster Train 2 and inspect its ordinary clan or run-selection screens. If Archus is not visible, first confirm that the platform finished installing The Punished and that the game is running under the purchasing account. Do not treat an unconfirmed milestone as a requirement, and do not use a guide for a different expansion as evidence about this one.

What does The Punished add?
The Punished is a new playable clan led by Archus, Darkness Incarnate. Its systems are the reason to buy the expansion, but they are not installation or unlock steps.
Punish
Punish triggers when friendly units take damage. The mechanic turns self-inflicted or allied damage into a potential benefit, while also creating a risk that must be managed during a run.
Bloodshed
Bloodshed rewards friendly damage dealt on the same floor. Positioning and the timing of damage effects therefore matter when building a Punished deck.
Chained
Chained shares suffering with enemies. The effect links the clan’s damage-oriented plan to the opposing side of the floor rather than limiting the consequence to your own units.
Recommended Free Tools
Tenacious
Tenacious protects allies from lethal friendly damage. It is a defensive counterweight to the clan’s self-damage themes.
Tribute to the Monolith and Devotion
Tribute to the Monolith increases Devotion during a run. Devotion powers cards and grants Zeal to new units, giving the clan a progression resource to manage as the battle develops. The official Steam community news feed describes these mechanics at Steam Community.
What are the later platform versions?
The publisher says a separate Switch 2 version, along with iOS and Android releases that include The Punished, will arrive later in 2026. No precise date for those versions is announced in the checked material.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Do not confuse that future Switch 2 release with Nintendo’s current statement that the existing Switch version is supported on Switch 2. Compatibility for the existing game is not proof that a separate Switch 2 edition of The Punished is already available.
Can I use a physical gift card to pay for the DLC?
You can use platform store credit where the platform permits it, but the card is not The Punished itself. Steam says physical Steam gift cards can be redeemed toward Steam purchases. Nintendo describes retailer eShop cards, and PlayStation supports retailer gift cards for digital add-ons.
Retailer selection, stock, denominations and regional eligibility vary. No verified physical Punished cartridge, DLC activation card or collector’s edition is established, so avoid listings that imply one exists without a current official product page. A physical Steam gift card can be useful if you prefer cash or cannot use a bank card, but it still requires a Steam account and does not bypass the base-game requirement.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How do I troubleshoot a missing DLC listing or clan?
- The store still says unavailable: Check the platform’s release timing and your account region. A planned date does not guarantee that every storefront changes its listing at the same moment.
- You see an older Monster Train add-on: Confirm the title says The Punished. Destiny of the Railforged is a different paid DLC, and the Wurmkin update is a separate free update.
- You bought it but cannot see Archus: Check the platform’s download queue or add-on management page, then fully close and reopen the game after installation. There is no documented special unlock command.
- The price differs from $7.99: The $7.99 figure is the announced US price. Use the amount displayed by your local storefront, including any regional conversion or tax.
- You own the base game elsewhere: A license on Steam, Nintendo, PlayStation or Xbox does not automatically transfer to another platform’s store. Purchase through the ecosystem where you play Monster Train 2.
- The game is updated but the clan is absent: Confirm that the DLC purchase was made on the same account, that the add-on is enabled or installed, and that no second account is being used to launch the game.
What should be checked after launch?
Once the expansion is live, confirm four details on the relevant official storefront: that The Punished has a purchase button, the region-specific price, the platform and edition being sold, and the installation or activation instructions. Only an updated official listing or developer announcement can establish whether a story milestone or an in-game activation step exists.
For the latest launch announcement and platform information, consult the publisher’s release notice at GamesPress and the official Steam DLC page. The announcement also reports more than one million Monster Train 2 players; that is a player-count milestone, not a count of Punished owners.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will wishlisting The Punished charge my account?
No. A Steam wishlist records your interest and can trigger a store notification when the listing changes, but it does not place an order, reserve a copy or grant access to the clan.
Does The Punished include the Monster Train 2 base game?
No. It is an add-on that depends on Monster Train 2. If the base game is not licensed on the same platform account, buying the expansion alone will not provide a playable standalone version.

Is The Punished available before November 10, 2026?
The Steam listing was unavailable on October 30, 2026, and no verified pre-release play method was documented. November 10 is the announced release date, not proof of an earlier unlock.
Can I buy the DLC on Steam and use it on Xbox or Switch?
No cross-platform license is announced. Buy the add-on through the same platform ecosystem where you own and play Monster Train 2.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Is the Switch 2 version available at the same time as the Switch release?
The publisher describes a separate Switch 2 version as arriving later in 2026 and does not provide a precise date in the checked announcement. Existing Switch support on Switch 2 should not be read as confirmation that the separate edition is already sold.
Could Archus be locked behind campaign progress?
That requirement has not been officially documented. Until a post-launch source specifies a milestone, treat any claim about a required victory, level or number of runs as unverified.
Does the $7.99 price apply worldwide?
It is the announced US price. Your storefront can display a different regional amount, currency conversion or tax-inclusive total, so the checkout page is the authoritative price for your account.
Is there a physical Punished cartridge or activation card?
No verified physical Punished product is established. Platform gift cards can add store credit, but they are payment instruments rather than copies of the DLC.
What if the add-on is paid for but Archus is missing?
Check the account license, download queue, add-on management screen and game update status, then restart the game. No official source currently confirms a special in-game unlock command.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: The Punished is planned for November 10, 2026, as $7.99 US paid DLC. Before then, wishlist it on Steam; after launch, buy it from the store tied to your Monster Train 2 base-game license. No official source yet confirms a separate Archus unlock requirement.
