How do I check Moon Sweepers’ Steam Deck compatibility?
Check the Steam store page and Valve’s compatibility data, then treat any third-party prediction as a prediction rather than a badge. Steam Deck ratings can change, so confirm the current result on your own Steam account rather than relying on an older screenshot.

- Check the latest game update. The developer’s version 1.0.4 notes, posted October 25, 2026, say: “Steam Deck / Linux: Fixed startup issues with older Proton versions.” This is a game-side fix, not a Valve compatibility rating.
- Use community reports as supporting evidence only. Steam Index showed an unofficial “Likely Verified 47%” prediction, while explicitly noting that Valve had not tested the game. A model prediction does not change the official Unknown status.
For reference, Valve’s labels are commonly summarized as follows: Verified means the game meets Valve’s Deck checks; Playable means it can work with adjustments; Unsupported means it does not work properly on Deck hardware or Proton; and Unknown means Valve has not published a result. Moon Sweepers’ current evidence belongs in the last category.
Does Moon Sweepers run on Steam Deck?
There is limited positive player evidence, but no official Deck performance guarantee. A player posting as Bracer50 in the Steam Community on October 23, 2026, said the game played on their Deck, that the graphics were occasionally glitchy, and that lowering graphics to Medium helped. On October 25, the same player said they had not needed to change controls.

That report is useful as a practical clue, not a compatibility test: it describes one player’s experience and does not establish a frame rate, battery life, stability across long sessions, or how the game behaves on every Deck model. DragDrop Games and Valve have published no Steam Deck frame-rate, TDP, or battery-life figures. The game’s Steam system requirements describe Windows PCs, not equivalent Steam Deck performance.
The game launched on October 23, 2026, for Windows. Steam lists Windows support, but not macOS or Linux. A Deck therefore does not run a native SteamOS edition: SteamOS uses Proton to run the Windows build. Version 1.0.4 addressed startup issues with older Proton versions, but the developer did not name a required Proton version.
What should I do before the first launch?
Start with a current game build and Proton rather than changing graphics flags or forcing an old compatibility layer. The documented startup fix is in the game, and changing several variables at once can make a launch problem harder to diagnose.
- Install Moon Sweepers from Steam on the account that owns it, and let the public branch finish downloading its update.
- Confirm the installed game version. Use version 1.0.5 if available; at minimum, use 1.0.4. Version 1.0.4 is the patch that calls out older-Proton startup issues. Version 1.0.5, dated October 28, 2026, is the later public update described by community guides.
- Update SteamOS and Proton. In the game’s Library page, open its settings and then Properties → Compatibility. Do not force an old Proton version as a first fix. If a compatibility override is already selected, remove it for the initial launch attempt.
- Launch without copied Windows options. Start the game with no extra launch flags, then see whether it reaches the menu.
- Test one short solo session. Start a world, move, sweep, open the upgrade interface, deposit dust, make a low-cost purchase, save, quit, and reload. This checks the basic play loop and save path before investing in a longer session.
Keep builds aligned if playing with others. The 1.0.4 patch notes warn that saves made in 1.0.4 cannot be opened by older game versions. A later update may also change input behavior, so a preview branch or mismatched versions can make a group’s experience inconsistent.

What can I try if Moon Sweepers will not start?
First rule out an outdated game build or Proton override; those are the most directly relevant fixes for a Deck startup failure. The developer’s explicit note applies to older Proton versions and the 1.0.4 game update, not to a specific named Proton release.
- Update the game and SteamOS. Confirm the game is 1.0.4 or later, then install available Proton updates through SteamOS.
- Remove launch options you copied from a Windows guide. Restart the game with the launch-options field empty.
- Verify the installed game files. Use the game’s Steam properties to run Steam’s file-integrity check if the game still fails to open.
- Try another current Proton version only after updating. If the default still fails, a different current Proton option can help isolate whether the issue is version-specific. The exact Proton version required by the patch is not stated.
- Record the actual failure. Note whether the game never opens a window, reaches a logo and closes, or fails later. Include the game version and any compatibility override when asking for help.
Do not apply the Windows DirectX workaround to Steam Deck as a routine fix. In version 1.0.4, DragDrop Games made DirectX 11 the Windows default to prevent AMD GPU crashes and documented -force-d3d12 as the Windows opt-in to DirectX 12. That setting concerns the Windows build’s graphics API choice; it is not the developer’s stated Deck or Proton startup fix.
Likewise, a generic suggestion to install a Windows Visual C++ runtime is not a Moon Sweepers 1.0.4 fix. Avoid changing Proton files or the game installation based only on generic PC troubleshooting when the documented first steps are to update the game and Proton.
What graphics settings should I use on Deck?
If the image looks glitchy, Medium is the only setting supported by a specific Deck-owner report: Bracer50 said that lowering the graphics to Medium helped. There is no published Deck preset, target frame rate, or confirmed best setting for LCD versus OLED models.

Make one change at a time. Start at Medium if visual glitches appear, then assess whether the image is stable and readable before raising individual settings. Use the Deck’s performance overlay from the Quick Access Menu to observe your own session’s frame rate and battery drain; those readings are specific to your hardware, settings, game version, and current scene, not official Moon Sweepers benchmarks.
Expect the opening area and a developed base to place different demands on the system. The game’s automation loop can accumulate J.O.O.N.A.S. robots, conveyors, and capsules. A community guide warns qualitatively that larger late-game bases may stress handheld hardware more than the opening hour, but it supplies no measured frame-rate result. If performance changes as the base grows, reduce visual settings and check the overlay again before concluding that a single startup session represents the whole game.

Steam lists Full Controller Support and Steam Input API support, as well as DualShock and DualSense controller support. One Deck owner said the default controls worked out of the box, so try the shipped layout before rebuilding it. The developer has not published an official screenshot of the default Deck button map.
Moon Sweepers includes actions that may be more comfortable with a toggle or a visible shortcut. The main hand-tool complaint is having to hold a button while cleaning; a confirmed in-game toggle for hand-tool brushing is not established. Steam Input can offer a controller-level workaround, but it changes how the Deck sends input rather than adding a game setting.

Reduce repeated holding in the game

- Use upgrades that shorten work. Wide Head and Auto Packer are listed as upgrades that can reduce repetitive cleaning or packing actions. In-game shop values can change; confirm the current price in the live shop.
- Use vehicle Cruise Control for sweeping routes. The documented purchase path is a Garage ($200), a vehicle, then Cruise Control in the garage upgrade list. Cruise Control holds speed, but you still steer. A player report from the 1.0.4 period says alt-tabbing pauses vehicles even when Cruise Control is active.
- Automate a cleaned area. Robot Vacuum Mk I is listed at $250, with larger robots including J.O.O.N.A.S. The 1.0.4 notes say J.O.O.N.A.S. continues working when no player is nearby. Check the live shop for current in-game prices.
Make a Deck-specific Steam Input layout
- Open the game’s controller layout from the Steam Deck overlay.
- Keep the official Steam Input configuration as the starting point, especially if movement and sweeping already work.
- If holding the clean input is uncomfortable, select the relevant controller button or trigger and change its behavior to Toggle in the layout editor. This is a system-level controller mapping; it is not a confirmed in-game option and does not change mouse input.
- Put actions that are hard to reach on a back button or an unused face button. The Field Manual is available from the pause menu on controller; its keyboard shortcut is H.
- If Night Vision Goggles are difficult to activate, map keyboard N to a visible button. The version 1.0.4 notes say N cycles between helmet lamp, goggles, and off. The goggles upgrade is listed at $350 in those notes.
- Test the layout in a safe area, including opening menus and returning to movement, before using it for a long session. Change one mapping at a time so an accidental duplicate or toggle does not make movement or menus unreliable.
Steam lists accessibility options including custom volume controls, stereo sound, play without timed input, and play at your own pace. Those listings do not establish a hold-to-toggle cleaning option, so use Steam Input if the default hold is a problem.

Update to version 1.0.5, recentre the Deck’s sticks, and disconnect extra controllers or steering devices before remapping controls. Community summaries of the October 28, 2026 update say it fixes automatic forward movement and ignored keyboard or mouse input associated with an off-centre controller, joystick, steering wheel, or pedals.
If the problem persists, remove extra USB or Bluetooth input devices and test with only the Deck controls connected. This matters particularly when docked, where an attached wheel, pedal set, or another controller can affect which device the game reads. If reporting a remaining problem, list the connected devices and whether the issue occurs with the Deck’s sticks centred.
For docked play, players have also reported that vehicle camera recentering and building rotation can feel awkward on gamepads. A community summary of version 1.0.5 describes more flexible building, including free placement, moving placed buildings, and full refunds for pieces. These are control and building workflow considerations, not evidence of a Deck compatibility rating.

Should I buy Moon Sweepers for Steam Deck now?
Only if you are comfortable deciding within Steam’s refund conditions. Unknown means Valve has not published a compatibility verdict; it neither promises that the game works nor says it cannot run. One fan-maintained platforms page advises against buying specifically for Deck until the category changes unless a refund is acceptable.
Steam’s standard refund policy is generally described as requiring a request within 14 days of purchase and less than two hours of playtime. The game’s fan FAQ restates those thresholds; check Steam’s own refund page at purchase time for the current policy and applicable exceptions. Time spent in both solo and co-op counts toward playtime, so use an early session to check startup, controls, saving, and the graphics issue rather than leaving the first launch until after a long play session.
