Use Nintendo’s nearby-console save-data transfer to move your Pokémon Pokopia island from the old Switch to a new Nintendo Switch 2. On the old system, open System Settings > Data Management > Transfer Your Save Data > Send Save Data to Another Console; on the Switch 2, choose Receive Save Data. Both systems must be online, close together, and using users linked to the same Nintendo Account. Nintendo Switch Online is not required for this local transfer. The move deletes the source save instead of making a duplicate, so check the user and target data carefully before confirming.
Which transfer method should you use?
The best method depends on whether you still have the original console and whether you want only Pokopia or the entire console environment.

| Method | Use it when | What moves | Main risk or requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nearby save-data transfer | Both consoles are available and you want to move only Pokopia | The selected Pokopia save file | The source save is deleted; Nintendo Switch Online is not required |
| Save Data Cloud | A usable Pokopia backup already exists and the source console is unavailable or inconvenient | The backed-up Pokopia save | Requires the relevant Nintendo Switch Online access and an existing cloud backup |
| System Transfer | You are replacing the whole old console | Users and broader save data, along with other system information covered by Nintendo’s migration process | It is a wider migration; some source-console data is deleted afterward |
For a single Pokopia save with both systems in front of you, use nearby transfer. Choose System Transfer only when you want to migrate the old console as a whole, not merely move one game.
What do you need before moving a Pokopia save?
Prepare the two consoles and the account before opening the transfer menus. The following conditions are required for the nearby-console route.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Both consoles: Have the old Nintendo Switch and the destination Nintendo Switch 2 available, powered on and near each other.
- Internet: Connect both systems to the internet. The consoles use the local transfer workflow while online; this is different from downloading a cloud backup.
- Matching account: Link the same Nintendo Account to the relevant user on both consoles. Nintendo’s transfer rules permit a save to move only between users linked to that same account.
- Current system software: Update both consoles before starting. Nintendo’s Pokopia support information lists version 2.0.1, released September 7, 2026, and says the save remains available after that update.
- Destination access to the game: Make sure Pokémon Pokopia is available on the Switch 2 through the appropriate digital entitlement or a compatible Pokémon Pokopia game-key card. A second copy of the software does not itself move a save.
- Time to finish: Keep both consoles connected to power if possible and do not shut either one down while the transfer is running.
Do not begin if you are unsure which user owns the island. If the Switch 2 already has Pokopia save data, decide in advance whether that destination save can be discarded; Nintendo warns that an overwritten save cannot be recovered.
How do you send the Pokopia save from the old Switch?
Start the send operation on the console that currently contains your island. The menu labels below are Nintendo’s nearby-console save-transfer path.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- From the old console’s HOME menu, open System Settings.
- Select Data Management.
- Select Transfer Your Save Data.
- Choose Send Save Data to Another Console.
- When prompted, select the target-console type for the destination Nintendo Switch 2.
- Select the user who owns the Pokémon Pokopia save. Check the profile name and account carefully rather than assuming the first profile shown is correct.
- Select the Pokémon Pokopia save-data file, then choose Next.
- Review the warning and select OK to begin sending the save.
The send command is a move operation. Nintendo’s support wording is explicit: “This does not create a copy of your save data. Once sent, the save data file will be deleted from the source system.” Do not treat the old console as a backup after you confirm.
How do you receive the save on Nintendo Switch 2?
Leave the old console available until the send process has completed, then finish the receive operation on the new system.
- On the Nintendo Switch 2, open System Settings from HOME.
- Choose Data Management.
- Choose Transfer Your Save Data.
- Select Receive Save Data.
- If Pokopia data already exists on the Switch 2, choose whether to cancel or overwrite it. Select overwrite only when that destination save is disposable or you have another valid backup.
- Confirm the receive operation and wait for the transfer to finish.
- Select OK when Nintendo reports completion, then launch Pokémon Pokopia.
Open the game with the same Switch 2 user that received the save. Your island should appear under that account’s Pokopia data. If the game opens a new island instead, close it without creating additional progress and verify that you selected the correct user and completed the receive step.
Does nearby transfer require Nintendo Switch Online?
No. Nintendo states that a Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required for the nearby-console save-data transfer feature. The requirement for this route is access to both consoles, an internet connection, proximity, and matching Nintendo Account-linked users.

Nintendo Switch Online matters for the separate Save Data Cloud route. Do not subscribe solely to perform the local send-and-receive process when both consoles are available.
Will the old Pokopia save remain on the original console?
No. Nearby transfer moves the selected file and removes it from the source console. It is not a copy, duplicate, or synchronization process.
Before selecting OK on the old system, verify three things: the profile name, the Pokopia save file, and the destination console. If you want to keep playing on the old Switch as well, stop and investigate a supported backup option first; confirming the nearby transfer will not preserve a playable second copy on that console.
What happens if the Switch 2 already has a Pokopia save?
The receive screen lets you cancel or overwrite the destination data. Overwriting replaces the existing target save, and Nintendo warns that overwritten save data cannot be recovered.

Can you restore Pokopia with Save Data Cloud?
Yes, when a usable cloud backup already exists for the relevant account. Nintendo’s Pokémon Pokopia product listing identifies Save Data Cloud support, so cloud download is an alternative to nearby transfer when the source console is unavailable or when you intentionally use a previously uploaded backup.

Cloud recovery has important limits:
- The backup must have been uploaded before the original save was lost, damaged or replaced.
- You need the Nintendo Account associated with that backup and the Nintendo Switch Online access required for cloud saves.
- A cloud download restores the backed-up state, not progress made after the last successful upload.
- The available backup and the destination’s existing data still determine whether a restore can overwrite current progress.
If both consoles are working, nearby transfer is the clearer route because Nintendo documents it as membership-free. The available information does not establish a guaranteed recovery method for a Pokopia save that existed only on a lost or dead console and was never backed up.
How is System Transfer different?
Nintendo’s System Transfer is intended for replacing an entire old console. It moves users and save data as part of a broader migration to Nintendo Switch 2, rather than selecting only the Pokopia file.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Use it when you want the new Switch 2 to take over the old console’s user and save environment. Follow Nintendo’s current System Transfer instructions on both systems and use the same Nintendo Account on the destination. Nintendo warns that some source-console data is deleted after this process, so it is not a reversible “copy everything and keep the original unchanged” operation.
For a Pokopia-only move, System Transfer adds unnecessary scope. Nearby transfer gives you a way to select the game’s save file directly.
Do you need a microSD Express card or Pokémon HOME?
No. A microSD Express card is not required for the Pokopia save-data transfer. Nintendo discusses microSD Express separately for Nintendo Switch 2 storage and for importing screenshots or videos.
Pokémon HOME is also not the tool for moving a Pokémon Pokopia island. Use Nintendo’s console save-data transfer or the Save Data Cloud workflow instead. Pokémon HOME account operations and Pokopia save migration are separate functions.

Does buying the game again transfer the island?
No. A second digital purchase or game-key card does not move save data between consoles. The save belongs to the user and Nintendo Account relationship handled by the transfer process.
The destination still needs access to Pokémon Pokopia. If the Switch 2 does not already have the applicable digital entitlement, make the game available there through the supported purchase or game-key-card format; then perform the account-linked save transfer.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What should you do if the transfer fails?
Most failures come from account, network, software-version or destination-data conditions. Work through these checks without repeatedly confirming a destructive prompt.
The correct Pokopia save is not listed
- Return to the user-selection screen and verify that you chose the profile that actually played Pokopia.
- Confirm that the same Nintendo Account is linked to that user on both consoles.
- Launch Pokopia on the old console only to confirm the island is present, then close the game before restarting the transfer menus.
The consoles cannot find each other
- Place the systems close together and connect both to the internet.
- Install pending system updates and restart both consoles if the transfer screen remains unavailable.
- Reopen System Settings > Data Management > Transfer Your Save Data on both systems, using Send Save Data to Another Console on the old console and Receive Save Data on the Switch 2.
The destination already contains progress
Cancel if that progress matters. The overwrite warning is not a merge option, and Nintendo says overwritten data cannot be recovered. Only continue after deciding that the target save can be replaced.
Recommended Free Tools
The game is unavailable after the transfer
Save transfer and software entitlement are separate. Check that Pokopia is available to the destination user through the correct digital entitlement or game-key card, then launch it with the user that received the save.
The old console was lost or stopped working
Nearby transfer cannot be started without the source console. Check whether a Pokopia Save Data Cloud backup exists under the same Nintendo Account. If there is no source console and no prior cloud backup, the cited Nintendo procedures do not promise a way to recover that save.

Can you transfer Pokopia to a different Nintendo Account?
No. Nintendo’s nearby save-transfer rules require the source and destination users to be linked to the same Nintendo Account. Creating a new profile or signing in with another account does not satisfy that requirement.
If the Switch 2 is currently set up under another person’s account, add or use the account that owns the Pokopia save before starting. Do not send the file first and expect an account change afterward to repair ownership.
What should you check after the move?
- Start Pokopia on the Switch 2 with the receiving user.
- Confirm that the expected island and recent progress are present before deleting or resetting anything else.
- Keep the game updated; Nintendo’s current Pokopia support listing identifies version 2.0.1 as released September 7, 2026 and states that the save remains available after updating.
- If you plan to rely on cloud protection later, configure Save Data Cloud for the correct account and understand that it protects only the backup state that has actually been uploaded.
Once the island has been verified on the Switch 2, remember that the original nearby-transfer operation already removed the source save. Any future move should be planned as another transfer or supported cloud restore, not as a duplicate-copy workflow.
How we chose the recommended route
The recommendation follows Nintendo’s documented requirements and the reader’s goal: nearby transfer is the narrowest method for moving one Pokopia save, does not require Nintendo Switch Online, and works when both consoles are available. Save Data Cloud is treated as an alternative only when a backup already exists, while System Transfer is reserved for a whole-console replacement because it moves broader data and can delete source-console information.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will updating Pokémon Pokopia delete my island?
Nintendo’s current Pokopia support information lists version 2.0.1, released September 7, 2026, and says the save data remains available after downloading that update. Keep the update process powered and complete before launching the game on the new console.
Can two people use the same transferred Pokopia island on separate consoles?
The nearby-console operation is a move, not a shared-save feature: the selected file is deleted from the source system. Separate consoles would need their own valid save state rather than relying on one synchronized island.
What does a cloud restore bring back if the backup is old?
It restores the state contained in the last available upload. Progress made after that upload is not part of the cloud copy, so check the backup date and account before replacing current destination data.
Is a game-key card enough to recover a missing save?
No. A game-key card can make the software available on the destination console, but it does not contain or transfer the island. Save ownership and movement are handled through the account-linked console or cloud procedures.
