The MSI GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER 12G GAMING SLIM World of Warcraft Edition is a standard RTX 4070 SUPER graphics card in a special WoW-themed design. Its performance should be broadly comparable to other factory-overclocked RTX 4070 SUPER cards. The reason to pay extra is the Mystic Blue and Glorious Gold styling, MSI’s GAMING SLIM cooler, and the ten magnetic expansion-themed backplates—not a special World of Warcraft performance mode.
What is the World of Warcraft Edition?
The model name describes both the hardware and the decoration:

MSI announced the collaboration for World of Warcraft’s 20th anniversary and The War Within. The official campaign describes ten magnetic, puzzle-style backplates representing different expansion stories.

These figures come from MSI’s specification sheet. The model’s listed UPC is 0824142378724, which can help distinguish it from similarly named MSI cards.
Design, cooler, and backplates
The card combines WoW branding with MSI’s GAMING SLIM form factor. MSI lists its TRI FROZR 3 thermal design, TORX FAN 5.0 fans, copper baseplate, Core Pipes, and airflow-control fin sections. These are manufacturer design and positioning claims; independent temperature, noise, and sustained-clock results should not be inferred from them.

The ten magnetic backplates are the collector feature. They can be rearranged into different puzzle-style combinations and depict expansion-era artwork. When buying used, the complete accessory set matters: a bare graphics card does not offer the same collector value as a complete card with all ten pieces and its original packaging.
“Slim” should not be read as “small-form-factor compatible.” At 307mm long and 46mm thick—approximately 2.3 slots—the card still needs substantial space. MSI’s “SFF-Ready Enthusiast GeForce Card” label is useful guidance, but it cannot replace checking the exact case.
Gaming performance: what to expect
1440p
1440p is the card’s clearest target. The RTX 4070 SUPER offers strong raster performance, hardware ray tracing, 12GB of VRAM, and support for DLSS. It is suited to high or maximum settings in many games, although results depend on the title.
In World of Warcraft, performance is especially scene-dependent. Raid size, spell effects, crowded capital cities, view distance, environmental detail, add-ons, background software, the CPU, and the frame-rate cap can all change results. A single universal WoW FPS figure would be misleading without a specified patch, system, location, preset, and testing method.

The card can output a 4K signal and MSI lists support for 4K at 120Hz HDR, subject to the display, cable, and HDMI 2.1a setup. That does not mean every demanding game will render native 4K at a high refresh rate. Newer titles may require DLSS, reduced settings, or both.
Display output capability and rendering performance are separate questions. DLSS can improve frame rates in supported games, while frame generation is an optional feature and is not equivalent to doubling traditionally rendered frames in every latency-sensitive situation.
Ray tracing and creator workloads
As an Ada Lovelace RTX 40-series card, it supports ray tracing and DLSS 3 features, including AI-assisted upscaling and frame generation in supported titles. It can also serve CUDA-enabled applications, supported NVIDIA hardware video-encoding workflows, compatible 3D-rendering and AI applications, and multi-monitor setups. These are platform capabilities, not benchmark results for this exact board.

Compatibility and installation checklist
- Check the case: allow for 307mm of length, 46mm of thickness, front-radiator clearance, drive cages, side-panel clearance, and access to the motherboard slot latch.
- Check the PSU: MSI recommends at least 650W. Confirm that the unit can safely provide the required connection and power.
- Plan the 16-pin cable: fully seat the connector and follow the PSU or cable maker’s bend-clearance guidance. Avoid sharply bending the cable immediately at the plug.
- Check the slot: use an available PCIe x16-length slot and leave appropriate clearance for the cooler.
- Check the display connection: use DisplayPort or HDMI equipment appropriate for the intended resolution, refresh rate, and HDR mode.
- Install drivers: download current Game Ready or Studio drivers from NVIDIA’s official driver portal.
- Test at stock settings: confirm GPU detection, 12GB memory, display output, temperatures, and stability before overclocking or undervolting.
MSI Center is optional. It provides the listed Extreme Performance profile and MSI controls, while MSI Afterburner can be used for monitoring, fan control, overclocking, and undervolting. Normal operation does not require either application. The standard advertised boost clock is 2,475MHz; 2,490MHz is the optional MSI Center profile.
World of Warcraft Edition versus a regular RTX 4070 SUPER
At similar clocks, cooling, and power limits, the underlying gaming performance should be broadly comparable with other RTX 4070 SUPER implementations. The small difference between 2,475MHz and 2,490MHz is not a reason to expect a meaningful WoW advantage, and real-world results require testing.
The premium calculation is therefore straightforward:
Gaming value comes from the RTX 4070 SUPER. Collector value comes from the design, backplates, condition, packaging, and provenance.

A conventional card such as the MSI RTX 4070 SUPER VENTUS 3X OC is the more logical choice when frame rate per dollar matters more than presentation.
Buying one used or at a premium
No reliable current U.S. retail price or confirmed stock status was established for this model. Treat marketplace prices as seller-specific and do not use the $599 2024 launch MSRP as a 2026 street-price benchmark.
Before buying, request:
- A photograph of the complete card and every included backplate.
- A clear photograph of the serial-number label and, ideally, the UPC or original box.
- Confirmation that the magnetic pieces attach securely and are not cracked, warped, or missing.
- Evidence of the original accessories and packaging.
- Information about purchase region, proof of purchase, warranty eligibility, and return rights.
- Photos of the 16-pin connector, PCB edge, fans, fins, and backplate.
- Disclosure of BIOS modifications, mining or sustained high-load use, fan noise, corrosion, and coil whine.
MSI’s support coverage depends on region, seller status, proof of purchase, and the applicable policy. Use the official support page rather than assuming a universal warranty term. The available information also does not establish a replacement-parts program for individual backplate pieces.
Who should buy it?
- WoW collector: potentially worthwhile if the card is complete, authentic, and priced in line with the value you place on the design.
- Performance-first gamer: compare it with the cheapest reputable RTX 4070 SUPER and newer alternatives. Do not pay a large design premium for extra FPS.
- Compact-PC builder: verify the exact 307mm length, 46mm thickness, airflow, and 16-pin cable clearance.
- Used buyer: prioritize a documented, complete bundle with buyer protection and a return policy.
“Limited edition” describes the special collaboration; it is not proof of investment value or guaranteed long-term rarity. A newer-generation card may also be the better purchase if its verified price and performance make the older RTX 4070 SUPER poor value.
