msmeirsock_object.dll is a 32-bit Sony Ericsson component used by the old Mobile Phone Monitor and PC Suite software, not a Windows system file. The safest fix is to repair or reinstall the complete Sony Ericsson application from its original installation media or a verified package for the specific phone model, rather than downloading the DLL by itself.
What this file actually does
The file is identified as MSMEIrSock_object Module, published by Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB. Its name refers to the infrared-socket portion of Sony Ericsson’s connection-monitoring software.

It was distributed with PC Suite-era software and helped the computer detect and monitor the phone connection. If the component is missing, damaged, quarantined, or incompatible, the old Sony Ericsson program may stop during startup even though Windows itself is working normally.

Available historical metadata describes the file as a Win32, 32-bit application DLL. A commonly reported location is:
C:Program FilesSony EricssonMobile2Mobile Phone Monitor
That path is not guaranteed. Older installers may use another Sony Ericsson or Mobile Phone Monitor folder, a localized directory, or a different program location.
This is not:
- A Windows component
- A Microsoft Visual C++ runtime
- A DirectX file
- A .NET Framework file
- A general-purpose DLL for copying into
System32 - Proof of malware merely because Windows reports it as missing
The reported version and size come from historical third-party file metadata rather than a current Sony Ericsson installer manifest. Treat the filename and publisher information as clues, not as proof that every copy found online is genuine.

Corruption, wrong architecture, or incompatible legacy software | Reinstall under compatibility settings |
Cannot register msmeirsock_object.dll. |
The DLL may not support self-registration, or the installer lacks permissions | Use the original installer instead of running regsvr32 manually |
The exact wording depends on the Windows version and the program trying to load the file. “Specified module could not be found” can also mean that msmeirsock_object.dll exists but another DLL required by it does not.
Before changing anything, note what triggered the problem. Did it start after uninstalling PC Suite, restoring a backup, moving the Sony Ericsson folder, updating Windows, or an antivirus quarantine event? That detail determines which fix is most efficient.
Fix 1: Repair or reinstall Sony Ericsson PC Suite
This is the most likely successful repair because the missing file belongs to the Sony Ericsson application, not Windows.
If the program is listed in Windows
- Save any phone data or PC Suite settings you still need.
- Press Windows + I.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Search for Sony Ericsson, PC Suite, or Mobile Phone Monitor.
- Select the three-dot menu beside the entry.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Follow the setup wizard.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the complete PC Suite package again from the original phone CD or a verified package intended for that phone model.
- Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.
- Restart again after setup completes.
On older Windows layouts, use:
- Press Windows + R.
- Type:
appwiz.cpl
- Press Enter.
- Select the Sony Ericsson software.
- Choose Uninstall or Change.
- If the wizard offers Repair, select it first.
- If repair is unavailable or fails, uninstall, restart, and reinstall the complete package.
Do not remove only the DLL or only Mobile Phone Monitor if the package includes PC Suite components. The installer needs to place matching companion files, startup entries, connection services, and drivers together.
If the old program is not listed
Look for the original installer on:
- The CD supplied with the phone
- A backup of the phone’s software
- A verified archive containing the complete, model-specific PC Suite package
- Another trusted copy of the original installation media
There is no current official Sony download for this exact legacy DLL confirmed here. Do not treat an isolated file-hosting download as an official Sony Ericsson release.

- Up to 36 hours of 44.1KHz FLAC playback
- Supported by Android
- Connect to a PC to access your music collection
After reinstalling, launch PC Suite from the Start menu before reconnecting the phone. If it opens without the DLL message, the repair worked. If the phone is not detected, that is a separate connection or driver problem rather than proof that the DLL is still missing.
Fix 2: Check antivirus quarantine before restoring anything
Security software may quarantine old Sony Ericsson components because legacy utilities often contain unsigned or outdated files. Quarantine is possible, but a detection is not automatically a false positive.
Windows Security steps
- Open Start.
- Type Windows Security.
- Open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event mentioning
msmeirsock_object.dll, Sony Ericsson, PC Suite, or Mobile Phone Monitor. - Expand the event and inspect the original path.
Restore the file only when all of these are true:
- The original path is inside the legitimate Sony Ericsson application directory.
- The file came from your original installation media or a verified complete installer.
- The detection has been reviewed and is not a confirmed threat.
- You have scanned the complete installation package.
If the quarantined file came from a temporary folder, a browser download directory, an email attachment, or an unrelated system folder, do not restore it. Reinstall the complete application from trusted media instead.
After restoring a verified file, start PC Suite again. If Windows Security immediately quarantines it again, stop trying to force the file back into place. Keep the detection details and use a newer or safer method of transferring data, or remove the obsolete software.
Fix 3: Install the complete package with compatibility settings
A 32-bit application can run on 64-bit Windows through Windows’ compatibility subsystem, but its DLLs must still match the application that loads them. Copying a 32-bit DLL into a 64-bit system directory does not convert it into a 64-bit file.
Try compatibility mode on the original installer:
- Locate the PC Suite setup file.
- Right-click it and select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Choose the Windows version closest to the software’s documented release.
- Select Run this program as an administrator.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Run the installer.
- Restart Windows after installation.
If the installed program itself fails to start:
- Open Start.
- Search for PC Suite.
- Right-click it and select Open file location.
- Right-click its shortcut and select Open file location again if necessary.
- Right-click the main executable.
- Select Properties → Compatibility.
- Apply the same compatibility settings.
- Start the program again.
A compatibility setting is a practical workaround, not proof that Sony Ericsson officially supports Windows 10 or Windows 11. If setup fails while registering components, run the original installer as administrator and reinstall the full package rather than copying individual files.
Fix 4: Check whether another dependency is missing
Windows can name msmeirsock_object.dll even when the file is present. The loader may have failed because a second dependency is absent, blocked, or the wrong architecture.
Recommended Free Tools
First confirm the file’s location:
- Press Windows + E.
- Search the folders where Sony Ericsson software is installed.
- If File Explorer search returns multiple copies, do not overwrite them.
- Check whether the copy being loaded is in the application’s own directory.
- Compare the file’s location with the shortcut’s Target path.
The application directory normally takes priority over System32 or SysWOW64. Multiple copies may exist in old phone utilities, but replacing every copy can make the installation less consistent.

If the file exists but the error remains:
- Open Event Viewer from the Start menu.
- Select Windows Logs.
- Select Application.
- Look for an error recorded at the time PC Suite failed.
- Check whether the event names another missing module or a side-by-side configuration error.
A reputable dependency-analysis utility can also show which library the loader cannot find. Use it to identify the missing dependency, not to download random replacement DLLs based on filenames.
Fix 5: Do not blindly use regsvr32
regsvr32 is for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a universal repair command.
Do not assume this will fix the problem:
regsvr32 msmeirsock_object.dll
A registration error may simply mean that this DLL is not a self-registering COM server. It can also indicate a wrong architecture, missing dependencies, or insufficient permissions. A historical installation report involving registration failures for related Sony Ericsson modules does not prove that every copy of msmeirsock_object.dll must be registered manually.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsUse regsvr32 only when the original Sony Ericsson installer explicitly requests it or reliable inspection confirms that the file supports registration. In normal circumstances, reinstalling the parent application is the correct way to recreate its registration and service entries.
Fix 6: Check Windows components only as a secondary step
msmeirsock_object.dll is not a protected Windows file, so System File Checker will not normally restore it. Run DISM and SFC when Windows shows broader corruption, other built-in programs fail, or system repair is otherwise justified.
Run DISM first
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the operation to finish.
- Restart Windows.
Run SFC second
Open an elevated Command Prompt again and run:
sfc /scannow
Wait until verification reaches 100 percent, then restart.
If SFC reports that it found no integrity violations, Windows’ protected files are intact. That does not mean the Sony Ericsson DLL is installed. If DISM or SFC repairs Windows but PC Suite still shows the same message, return to the complete-package reinstall.

Fix 7: Check phone drivers and Windows device detection
Drivers are not the same as msmeirsock_object.dll, but an old PC Suite installation may also depend on phone connection drivers.

- Select Update Driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart after any driver change.
If the device appears with an error, right-click it, choose Uninstall device, disconnect the phone, restart Windows, and reinstall the complete Sony Ericsson package before reconnecting it. Do not uninstall unrelated USB controllers.
If manually matching old driver versions means hunting through many packages and guessing which one belongs to the handset, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and identify available updates; the free scan shows the findings, while driver installation is handled by the full version, and it cannot replace the required Sony Ericsson application reinstall.
Fix 8: Check Windows Features only when the installer requires them
There is no evidence that msmeirsock_object.dll itself is a Windows Features component. However, an old installer may require a legacy Windows feature or may fail because a related component is disabled.
To inspect available features:
- Press Windows + R.
- Type:
optionalfeatures
- Press Enter.
- Review the Windows Features list.
- Enable only a feature explicitly required by the PC Suite installer or its error message.
- Select OK.
- Restart if Windows requests it.
Do not enable every legacy feature as a trial. Features such as older .NET components may help a setup program, but no public evidence establishes that Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET is the source package for this DLL.
If a Microsoft runtime is specifically named by the installer or a dependency diagnostic, install the matching runtime from Microsoft’s official download channel. Otherwise, installing every Visual C++ package is unlikely to recreate a missing Sony Ericsson installation.
Why manual DLL downloads are a bad fix
Random DLL download sites create several problems:
- The file may contain malware.
- The publisher information may be forged.
- The version may not match your PC Suite build.
- A 32-bit file may be confused with a 64-bit dependency.
- The download may omit companion files.
- The application may still fail because another dependency is missing.
- Copying into
System32orSysWOW64can affect unrelated programs.
Never copy an isolated download into:
C:WindowsSystem32
or:
C:WindowsSysWOW64
Those folders are not general DLL storage locations for third-party applications. If a verified installer supplies the file, allow that installer to place it in the application’s own directory.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The safer sources are the original Sony Ericsson phone CD, a backup of your own installation media, or a complete, verified package for the exact phone model. Scan any archive before opening it and avoid packages that provide only a single DLL without the parent application.
When removing Sony Ericsson software is safer
If you no longer own the phone and the error appears only because an obsolete startup component is loading, removing the old software may be the best solution.
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Remove Sony Ericsson PC Suite and Mobile Phone Monitor.
Alternatively:
- Press Windows + R.
- Run:
appwiz.cpl
- Uninstall the Sony Ericsson entries.
- Restart Windows.
Afterward, check Task Manager → Startup apps for a remaining Sony Ericsson entry. Confirm its name and file path before disabling it. If an orphaned startup item remains and points to a deleted folder, disable the entry rather than downloading the missing DLL.

FAQ
Is msmeirsock_object.dll a Windows file?
No. It is an application-specific Sony Ericsson component associated with Mobile Phone Monitor and PC Suite-era phone software.
Is it 32-bit or 64-bit?
Available metadata identifies it as Win32, or 32-bit. A 32-bit Sony Ericsson program should load it from its own application directory on both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows.
Where should it be located?
A historically reported location is:
C:Program FilesSony EricssonMobile2Mobile Phone Monitor
The exact path varies by installer, language, phone model, and Windows configuration.
Should I copy it into System32?
No. Let the original application installer place it. Manual copying can create version conflicts and does not repair missing dependencies.
Does regsvr32 fix it?
Usually, there is no reason to run it manually. Use it only if the original installer requires registration or inspection confirms that the DLL exposes the required registration entry point.

Not automatically. There is no evidence that this DLL is one of those Microsoft runtime files. Install a runtime only when the parent installer or dependency diagnostic specifically identifies it.
What if antivirus removed the file?
Inspect Protection history. Restore only a verified copy from the legitimate Sony Ericsson installation directory and trusted media. Otherwise reinstall the complete package and scan it.
What if reinstalling still fails?
Check compatibility settings, Event Viewer, antivirus history, and Device Manager. The file may be present while another dependency is missing. If the software is no longer needed, uninstall it instead of preserving an obsolete startup component.
Is every file with this name genuine?
No. A filename and publisher label alone do not prove authenticity. Verify the source, path, complete installer, and security scan before restoring any copy.
